Ideal Companion: Ocicat

My cat Kitty, has like brown fur with the same stripes/spots as the Ocicat. and... It has dark-like yellow eyes. is that an Ocicat?

we found our ocicat Oliver on the side of the road when he was 4 weeks old and he was nothing but skin and bones. now he's 4 years old and he eats anything you put in front of him, but he isn't fat, he comes whenever he is called, and his stomach is ticklish ha. He's the alpha in my house and he's the biggest one of all my male cats and he's such a sweetie, even if he can give the worst looks you'll ever see :)

I have an "ocicat"--they're, as some have stated, not pure--but mine is decidedly DOG. His adopted sis is a tortie and not as dependent as he is, by far--she's a CAT--he comes when calls, loves kids, walks on a leash, loves water. Broke his heart when sis had to spend night at vet's, was mad at me. Ocidog, is more like it! Love 'em both!

There is no such thing as a purebred ocicat. They're a mixture of breeds to begin with. So, sorry to whoever thinks their cat is a "purebreed" ocicat.

My ocicat, Monkey, is an indoor/outdoor cat. He always comes home, I think he feels bad about hunting for food because I always give him a big long speech about how I'm not going to let him inside if he keeps bringing me birds. He basically owns our neighborhood. He is also pretty mean to some, I think he was abused before he found us. I love him SO much!

I've got one. My house is full of him, it's filled with him, he is everywhere. And he really love small children, as it was said. He's loud. And just so cute... he make silly faces, and poses... And, well... he loves everyone... And yes, he hates to be alone, he's always following someone. It is a perfect cat for big families.

i have an ocicat. i walked into work one day and someone had this beautiful kitten in their hands and just walked up to me and asked if i wanted one. he's extremely active and playful, although a bit rough in his play. guests sometimes think he is aggressive, but he is just a rowdy kitten. loves to climb, hate being alone. most intelliegnt animal i have ever seen, period. he solves problems, unlocks doors, flicks off lights. quite mischievous, but also loveable and extremely affectionate.

By calling them "Ocicats" people are going to think they are Ocelot hybrids. There is a big difference between Ocecats and Ocicats, and I don't like that people won't look into it far enough to see if they're getting an abnyssian-siamese-shorthair or an actual ocelot-tabby cross, which would be just a pretty but definitely not as tame or as good a pet.

Well, Ocicat is the official name of the breed because they have markings similar to an ocelot, but there is no wild cat in them - I doubt anyone is trying to pass off ocelot-tabbys as Ocicats. In their temperament, they're very much like a dog - I have an ocicat and he follows me to the grocery store...without a leash! He also goes without a litter box and just sits by the door when he needs to go out - and if you're not near the door, he'll come find you and lead you there.

I bought my Ocicat in 2003, and he has been a great pet. Everything that she says is true about the breed - intelligent, social, active, "dog-like". When my sister -in -law saw him, she immediately went about finding one. She and my brother are very attached to theirs also. Very foolishly, I let mine discover the joys of being outdoors, even though he has been de-clawed. He stays out all night and comes in the house and sleeps all day. So far, so good but I would never do that again.

i have a ragdoll, there amazing. They have such unique personalitys, amazingly friendly, and are absolutly beautiful! my kitten is asleep in my arms at the moment who i got a week ago with her brother. They settled in so quickly. There gr8 cats. but go for with cat that suits your lifestyle.

Hi, Reeah-I agree w/soulless-I volunteer at an animal shelter and we often get what we usually call "lynx point" domestic shorthairs with blue eyes that have spots similar to an ocicat b/c they have both siamese and domestic shorthair blood. So sorry to hear about your cat having passed. I know that you find another loving cat to share your life with when you are ready.

In Cyprus Ocicats are not even considered a breed, you see lots of them as strays!!! We have 2 rescue Ocicats a Chocolate, and a silver kitten. They are the best cats I have ever come across, they will do as they are told! Our cats play with our 17 month old, and copy his sounds, its so funny. When our friends hear them talk they think its amazing!

I really like this video, very good, very important information. I also have ocis and I agree with all the things you say. I think it's important to tell people that if they don't have time enough, and are not home enough, then they should not buy an oci. But if they have time, ocicats are ideal cats.

I'm a student and have been home a lot with my ocis since I bought them four years ago. But now I soon need to start working and I don't really know how it will be. It worries me.
