  • can someone tell me if sand is better or if gravel is better?

  • If you watch the video about that question in my playlist 'Aquariums and advice' there are plenty of answers there.

  • does this already have a air pump?

  • No, you would need to get that seperately.

  • @pondguru what does the air pump do? and do you really need it?? btw, i might be gettin my first tank soon

  • is this the same for the 350?

  • I can't remember what the filter was for the 350 as it has been an age since we had them in the shop. I think the early ones had under gravel, followed by internal filters later. I think the 350 has been discontinued so I don't have any vids for that. Its the time of year when companies do trade shows etc. so I should get some more DVDs from our suppliers before the end of the year so there should be new tank uploads coming soon.

    Thanks for watching.

  • wheres the out take on the filter

  • Just above water level, below the lid.

  • @pondguru oh but why not a nozzle. is the filter to small to fit one on it

  • The filter outlet comes out by gravity so it can't be a aerating nozzle like an internal filter would have on it.

  • kool tanks!!

  • The UFO look the same no matter what size as they are all basically a quarter circle. The 700 is 700mm long each straight side.

  • oh thats crap lol cheers anyway

  • I would help, man- but I have no idea about marine equipment as we don't deal in marines.

  • can you place salt water fish in this aquarium ? im abit unsure

  • You will need extra equipment which doesn't come with the tank. Best ask a shop that deals in marine fish.

  • @wiggledibble yes just add salt mix to the tank water and get some live plants, or buy those copy coral plants for the fish.

  • JUWEL !!!!!

  • Juwel are good tanks but very expensive to replace the foams with 'proper' replacements. Some nice designs though.

  • Cool I migth try that sometime thanks

  • No worries.

  • Well you have money and im a kid without any money so i wanna find sumthing reusable please let me know if you find anything thanks for all the advice

  • There are loads of reuseable stuff you could put in there, but it wouldn't do the job of charcoal or zeolite. One of the best filter media for small spaces is clay beads - they have a masive surface area for bacteria to colonise. On steep hills they are used off to the sides of roads as escape lane material as when a vehicle goes in, they crush and slow it down. Make sure you boil them firts to get rid of any pollutants and take them from the top end of the escape lane - they will be cleaner.

  • so what type of mineral should i use that can be re used in a media bag

  • You could use Zeolite. It absorbs ammonia and nitrite and can be recharged by putting into a saline solution. Not sure of the exact process as we generally just replace zeloite and carbon, then you know for a fact it will do a job for you.

  • Are carbon media bags reusable?

  • As they bind pollutants they have a limited life and they are recommended to be changed every 8 weeks. The media BAGS for some of the external filters are reuseable, but not the carbon within them.

  • I have the 880 and I found the powerhead to be way too loud so I now use a CF filter and its return line connects to the overhead filter.

  • Pumps each have their own noise level, just like people or dogs.

I think that I would have done the same - the CF filters are good and provide better filtration than the standard overhead unit. Using it in addition is a great idea.
