mike is such a great player and always has this amazing tone...he really knows how to work his amp...proof that an amp is just as much of an instrument as a guitar is...I've always called him the david gilmour of metal...
@penticostal666 God is GOD DUDE..He is Alive and Never DIEs..!!! Howver this a gr8 band and i digdeliverance howvere we (HUmans created by The Mighty GOD) are evntually DUST....GOD is the GREAT...and I love GOD as i am Alive!!!!
Get a grip on reality! Every moron fan of some ban or another posts such comments. Just because they manage to pull a decent 15 second solo, doesn't make'em gods.
What's so great about this band? And please, before you say how stupid or ignorant I am, explain to me why they are so "great". After listening to a few songs all I can is that they're at best, mediocre. Sure they have the techniques to make or at least play some nice songs, but they lack everything else.
it's their talent to switch between styles so greatly, the lyrics which are writen by a genius, poetry in the best from of art, each individual instrument with feelings that you can hardly find in music nowdays, the simple complexy of every song, you know, the last 3 minutes of this song, for example, are simple individualy, yet not in the form of a band, they all are geniuses at worse
they make every song a continuum of music generes styles and feelings
Am I wrong when comparing this song to some kids walking or, at times, running, through a maze and never finding a way out, each passage of the song being a dead end, culminating with their giving up on finding a way out and perhaps dying?
uhhh no? but i don't know, everyone sees in music what their minds tell them to, that's why no body has the same tastes i see colours when i litsen to music
not actual images... but hell if your perhaps i have the soul of a hippie in a progies body,
to be quite honest, opeth was far from being one of my favourite bands back when i heard of them
it was too slow, it wasn't brutal enough, it was too long, it was too everything
@rusutessian I see what you mean about the musical dead ends. I don't see this in Opeth, but it is something I see in a lot of other bands that try to play this kind of progressive music. It's like each idea stops suddenly, and the song is forced to move on to the next section or musical idea. This is one of the reasons I love Opeth. Their songs are long and progressive, yet all of the ideas flow and don't sound abrupt or forced.
i heard a part of the song when watching a video here on yt, and i said "hey! he sings pretty good" then i decided listened to the song and i got thrilled
i do get what you say because i've been there, i even got to hate opeth because everyone was like "opeth ftw!" and it didn't made any sense to me
cant tell if youll ever get us, because its something really hard to explain, but i can tell that if you get us you'll love this band
no, not everyone.. and though I do agree that there are a lot of opinionated moons out there, I don't believe one needs to be a composer or a musician in order to use one's ears. so we can talk anytime if you think you can handle it.
@rusutessian yeah right if you kow much about music .... you cant talk about this you dont have any idea of the compositions so you can shut up its easy talk like an idiot ...
what's wrong with you? you're blabbering! Relax! Have a beer and talk when you have something to say. And instead of calling me an idiot, why don't you reveal some of your amazing musical knowledge that is, of course, relevant to this subject. i'm sure you can find a civilized manner in which to show how wrong I am.
@rusutessian if you can't get the greatness of this band, well, i'm sad for you... and "a few songs" is not enough to say that a band is good or not... peace
@inMYtimeOFneed92 you're sad for me? get a razor and cut your wrists then. I was at one of their concerts once(a friend of mine gave a ticket) and they bored the crap out of me - maybe because "My Dying Bride" almost put me to sleep before they came on. I didn't see of feel their greatness as you call it, though there was at one point a nice riff that I actually liked - hardly enough to call a band great. You like them? Excellent. Listen to them till your ears bleed and then some more.
@rusutessian nah i love my life, maybe cutting your vein is what u really want to do... i like them and i'll surely continue listening to their great music...u probably have a poor taste... still sad for u
this never gets old. thanks for posting after watching this 3mos back i knew i had to see them and i got to do just that tuesday night, it was pure opeth in all its glory sounding like a dream. i can appreciate your footage even more now, and you did a good job shooting this vid. they closed with this song it was fucking burtaly beautiful
FUCKING BRILLIANT BAND,i love how they come up with solos that sound so fucking perfect and gives me the chills like the ending of this song and im also talking about the beggining of beneath the mire and the ending of heir apparent.
I like that Opeth plays music that everyone can appreciate, and that they make this music accessible to everyone (not just musicians) by keeping the complexity levels to a minimum. They could easily overdo it, but they keep it real the whole way through, and it's tight as hell.
in fact he means that unlike almost every modern band, they did not grew their skill to show off that they can play a musical instrument, they did to create something intense, with a good feel and keep some complexity w/o boring double bass fills for all the song, the music play them
Is Mike wearing a Celtic Frost shirt?
