  • WOW UR REALLY GOOD I WANT TO PLAY THE OBOE BUT IM PLAY THE FLUTE AND THE BASS CLARINET SO PLAYING THE OBOE WOULD BEE GOOD BUT WHEN IM REALLY GOOD AT BOTH IM GOING TO BE U WHEN IM ( playing wise ) OLDER AND IM 13

  • Yes the reeds from those machines really never tune out. They are like processed fast food!

  • hand made reeds that you make for yourself are the best.....Machine made reeds are absolutly horrible.....

  • I agree! When I used to play on the tip, the sound was thin and strained. Now, lower, it sounds SO much better. And easier to play too! Now I can play much longer. YAY!

  • That oboe is possibly, no, definitely the best sounding oboe I have ever heard in my whole entire life.

  • Good question! I use to play on the tip until I realized some of its short comings. When playing on the tip you are limiting the scope of the reed in every way. The reason one plays on the tip is because it can hide the reed's imperfections, but at a cost to your own flexibility. It's just my conclusion after observing great oboist play, check it out!

  • @simontai1

I have never ever heard this info before! I always thought I had to play at the very tip of the tip as I was told that it's easier to control the reed that way!!! Hmmm... ok i will give it a go and see what happens!

    xx

  • I think playing on the tip is an old school concept or just a different approach. If your reed is more refined than you won't have to over control the reed with the embouchure. We can do a lot just with the proper air support. Experiment and see what works!

  • @simsim29 I find that when you play on the very tip of the reed you get a very warm sound which could be desirable depending on your oboe individually.

  • Wait a minute! Isn't that way too much reed in your mouth? I thought we were only supposed to cover the tip and the rest of the cane should be visible!!!??

  • @simsim29 This all depends on the thickness of the lips

  • Good point! I would still focus on not playing on the tip and finding the balance point further down and scrape more from the back to add depth. There are so many variables that it's always a work in progress.
