The 4890 almost beats the GTX 285 and even beats it in some games, I know as I went from a 4890 to a GTX 285 which costed 200 more.:P Way overpriced, too much power draw, too hot, and 0 impressive results.
gtx 275 kicks the 4890 in it's nuts !i ati is better than nvidia only on ultra-high end pc systems....how many of you out there can afford an Intel i7...over 6gb of Ram. just to so you will not give the ati card a bottleneck effect...nvidia practically is more adaptive...i managed with 9800GT to play chrysis on almost very high settings with some modest specs like : core2duo e8200..2gb of ram at 667 freq. and the game was extremely playable. Nvidia FTW !
...The thing I don't like is that it would be very easy for ATI to have DX11 Support in 4 series cards ,They Choose Not to , I have a Hard time Spending Cash to go Backwards (Ati 5770) or Sideways (Ati 5830).... I only buy cards when there is big leaps in Performance , 6800 to 1800 xtx to 8800gt to 4890 , I don't see the Next big leap Price/Performance yet ... I just finished playing Bad Company 2 and the 4890 is doing fine (5870 would mean a Whole Hard ware change) ,So Far....

Right now the ATI 58xx series owns Nvidia of course that's because they just recently made those cards. Gtx 295 is getting pretty old and still running pretty good. Otherwise, why would ATI make cards that cannot beat the GTX 295? So of course the latest ATI series beat Nvidia. I am a nvidia fan myself and because Nvidia will be releasing the GTX 300 series soon, it should beat the ATI cards for sure. But I have to admit, finally the ATI beats the gtx 295 a year later though
I'm not that enthusiastic about Nvidias cards anymore they went lazy after the G92 and 8800 series and all they"ve done in the last 4 years is just overclocking and renaming which ATI to catch up and overtake them . Also both cards the 5xxx series and the GTX2xx are 2009 product and they are the same generation indeed the Nvidia were out several months before but that was quite some miscalculation from them to just overclock their old product to have huge benifice marge...
Jan 8th of 2009 so it still was almost a full year before the 5000 series was released. The 4000 series and the gtx 200 series are the same generation.

faster Single GPU yes after 7 months, and not to mention it cost almost as much a HD5970 , with the low stock suppleys, and when you buy a CG you don't care if it is a single or bigpu you care about brute performance and the HD5970 is miles ahead compared to the GTX480

I run the ATi 4890 and its fucken cool to say the least, Solid performing card spits out frames very solid, I also run a Intel Q9550 cpu and 4 gig ddr3 ram.
@doronknowsbest3 Hell ya, the GTX 275 is deffinetly faster than the 4890- they built the GTX 275 just for the 4890. Specially at higher resolutions, the GTX 275 really pulls away. I own the GTX 275 OC Edition, it gives the GTX 285 a run for its money with a slight overclock applied to the GPU and Memory.

Before my current Build, I had an AMD Athlon FX-53 ($1,000 chip) with an ATI X850 XT Platinum Edition ($549.99) - I go with the best Performing hardware for what Im looking for. The 4890 is deffinetly a fast card, but the EVGA GTX 275 is the faster chip hands down and beats the 285 with the smallest of overclocks. The GTX480 beats the 5970 when Tessellation is used which is one of the Key features of DX11.
@illmagnified the HD5970 beats the GTX480 tessellation on or off and every bench availible. the gtx480 digg quite a noticeable gap with the HD5870 when it comes to tessellation but overall the diffrence is about 10% or less and if considering the price diffrence and the overlocking capabilities ....the story changes...

The GTX275 is, for the price, a better high end card for the money than any other GPU. ATI has had a rough run since the 6800s and the 7x series released by nvidia. However, I believe that their they may surpass nvidia in the next series of cards. Nvidia GTX3x cards have great potential. Nvidia is behind in a few areas: DX11 support GDDR5 optimization Smaller cards budget friendly GPU's
blah blah blah you can throw out all the marketing terms you want but in the end it comes down to benchmarks and FPS scores. these two cards are basically neck and neck, and you can find them for more or less the same price. 275>4890. My friend has a 4890 and I have a GTX 275 and we ran benchmarks on Crysis and 3DMark (using each other's machines). My frames & scores were better, but not by much. 4890 is great for the price but it gets REALLY hot. My 275 loads at only 65 Degrees.
Ok. you got a higher FPS, but it depend's your CPU. In Gaming CPU,GPU,RAM,other work as a team. If you have a better CPU it's normaly for you got get a higher FPS.
We tested both cards on my system. And nvidia drivers>ATi drivers. Another selling point for me is on newegg they give free games on almost all their nvidia cards. They don't do that for ATi so I just went with the 275 instead of the 4890. Both are kickass cards though.

Thirdly, you didn't show me where i can find a gtx295 or 2 gtx275s...or 2 gtx295s aka 4 gtx275s.... getting 45fps average fps in Crysis on max setts with 16XQ AA. or 250 fps in Asaasin's Creed like beefdog does.

i am not a fanboy of neither brands.i ve been using ati products since 9700pro was released.this time i think i ll chose a gtx275 only because of physx....mirrors edge really lagged on my friend pc : core2quad 9400 , 4gb ram ,3870x2 when physx was on.on onother system with 8800gts there was not so much lag.I hope tha ati will do something about that with the upcoming 5xxx series.i really do like ati for their value for money cards

Unlike some of the people, I found the song to be better than the video.
The GTX275 is, for the price, a better high end card for the money than any other GPU. ATI has had a rough run since the 6800s and the 7x series released by nvidia. However, I believe that their they may surpass nvidia in the next series of cards. Nvidia GTX3x cards have great potential. Nvidia is behind in a few areas: DX11 support GDDR5 optimization Smaller cards budget friendly GPU's

blah blah blah you can throw out all the marketing terms you want but in the end it comes down to benchmarks and FPS scores. these two cards are basically neck and neck, and you can find them for more or less the same price. It comes down to what deal you can find on the day you're making the purchase, or, if you're a fanboy, personal preference.

275>4890. My friend has a 4890 and I have a GTX 275 and we ran benchmarks on Crysis and 3DMark (using each other's machines). My frames & scores were better, but not by much. 4890 is great for the price but it gets REALLY hot. My 275 loads at only 65 Degrees.

Ok. you got a higher FPS, but it depend's your CPU. In Gaming CPU,GPU,RAM,other work as a team. If you have a better CPU it's normaly for you got get a higher FPS.

We tested both cards on my system. And nvidia drivers>ATi drivers. Another selling point for me is on newegg they give free games on almost all their nvidia cards. They don't do that for ATi so I just went with the 275 instead of the 4890. Both are kickass cards though.

Firstly, the GTX295 is a dual GPU card that is made of theoretically 2 gtx275s.
Secondly, Nvidia doesn't support quad SLI yet. Dual gtx295s means: tri sli + physx accelerator.
Thirdly, you didn't show me where i can find a gtx295 or 2 gtx275s...or 2 gtx295s aka 4 gtx275s.... getting 45fps average fps in Crysis on max setts with 16XQ AA. or 250 fps in Asaasin's Creed like beefdog does.

i did not say the 4890 would not out perform it, i said it is not double the speed. if anything it would be maybe by about 10-15 fps at the most. i dont go for one brand or another, i have a nvidia right here next to me, but im running an ATI.

The 4890 rapes the gtx275 and mostly outperforms it's 3% overclocked brother, the gtx285, in most cases, especially in the DX10.1 games, like:
Stalker CS., HAWX, Call of juarez bound in blood, Empire total war, Storm rise, Battle forge ..............etc.
It consumes less power than the gtx275 because it's made of about 60% of the number of transistors that the G200 chip is made of. "950Million compared to 1.48 billion transistors"
Plusss, ATI's superior image quality compared to nvidia's.

Actually, a 275 is faster than a 4890, and it's cheaper.
A 920 i7, - $200.
Gigabyte EX58 - $200. = $400, not $1500.
3GB of Triple channel ram goes for $120 these days. Hardly 1500.
Intel's architecture is shitloads more high quality than AMD, and ATi, they can't even make good drivers.

AMD/ATI products are NOT high quality, the fans are shit, their CPUs have cores in which have to be turned off to be stable (Phenom II 720).DDR5, this doesn't matter. Because if DDR3 keeps up with DDR5, then it's just bragging rights is all you gain.

dude drr5 is quad pumped so your wrong about ddr3 keeping up ddr3 is only dub pump 1000mhz drr5 = 4000mhz ddr and drr3 1000mhz = 2000ddr and it takes more power then ddr5 so no you gain much more then bragging rights but you have a point buy on frames per sec and watts and heat not new tech new tech may go hand and hand but it doesn't always.

i am not a fanboy of neither brands.i ve been using ati products since 9700pro was released.this time i think i ll chose a gtx275 only because of physx....mirrors edge really lagged on my friend pc : core2quad 9400 , 4gb ram ,3870x2 when physx was on.on onother system with 8800gts there was not so much lag.I hope tha ati will do something about that with the upcoming 5xxx series.i really do like ati for their value for money cards

Anand's thorough review of the 4890 and 275 showed that the PhysX has no noticeable enhancement to select games that would otherwise benefit from it. The 275 and 4890 are equally matched however, making power consumption and drivers dictating choice.
