  • Just because something is popular doesnt make it lame... whats lame is when people wanna take credit from bands who put themselves on the map with hard work, that shit pisses me off.

  • @niekolas I am sure some people were turned off by the success of Green Day...As was said here, they did attract the attention of major labels before they released Dookie and were playing to packed clubs... But the fact of the matter is that Dookie is a solid punk rock album, no matter how you slice it. If you jumped off the bandwagon because they were popular and not because they really "sold out" then you dont know shit about music, or punk. The Clash were on a major, are they sellouts???

  • y did u haft put it black and white

  • Greetings from the Czech Republic ---> need a RANCID here !!!

  • this was at cbgb's, yay?

  • I was there every tuesday that March, I'd love to see the full color versions one day.

  • @SROD I don't disagree that staying independent is a big part of punk ethos...Green Day was never really a punk band though. My definition of selling out is different than yours. I don't think a band are sellouts just because they sign to a major. I think it's selling out if you let someone control your art. In my opinion, dookie and insomniac are way better than kerplunk or 10000 smooth/slappy hours

  • @Asalamalika That's not YOUR definition of selling out, that's exactly what the dictionary definition is. People who think signing to a major label makes you a sell-out are retarded. There's nothing wrong with recognition for the style and writing that you do - You sell out when you compromise specific ideals you expressed in your music or allow (as you said) control of your music to be handed over to others.

  • Awesome!

  • jouney to end is super easy to play on guitar but the bass in that song took me three nights staying up to figure out then perfect. matt freeman is awesome

  • @uzidude132 theres still parts i cant figure out and that was the first song i really learned how to play wen i got a bass last year

  • Man Journey gave me chills...such a good song. Also As Wicked always gives me chills. Rancid is unbelievable.

  • I love Rancid. Their in my top three bands, but I always hated this screen effect -.-

  • this is why music isn't the same anymore. what new band has this crowd...

none, and pay attention to this -----> .

  • was this at the Kansas amplitheatre?

  • Hi

We are Say Hello And Good Morning

We are a four piece band

Do check us out in Youtube

    and also in Facebook

    Thank you

  • tears ..hearing that crowd..chills

  • @bearlooter same i wish they came around again id do anything to c them

  • two of the sickest bands!

  • I dont get it...wouldn't you want to hear these guys sing? I would have gotten thrown out for hitting people. How the FUCK do you go to a show and sing so loud that no one can hear the band? It's beyond me...

  • @SROD12321 everybody there heard the show perfectly,

and on tape it's even more awsome man, the spirit of op ivy still live on YEARS AFTER !!! and people still sing to it as if they exist,

we have respect for op ivy and rancid singing along to a song show the respectand how bad you love a song.

if you don't like it don't watch it, i don't give a fuck people singing along is cool

  • I wouldn't watch this. It's Rancid acoustic with vocals dominated by a crowd of people who must love the sound of their own voices. There's no way you'd hear this clearly - a person in the crowd would be surrounded by crowd vocals, so that's what they'd hear. I worked at the Troc in Philly and saw it every weekend.

The stuff you said about "the spirit of Op Ivy" is moot; no one is going to debate that and I don't see what that has to do with people ruining the show.

  • @blindboy2 PS - you'll notice Lars laughing because the crowd is fucking up the vocal timing. And Tim just stops singing multiple times throughout the show because...well...there's no point. Again, why go to an ACOUSTIC show just to scream over the band? I could see singing the choruses. But when a guy is on a stage palm muting an acoustic guitar, screaming the words is kinda fuckin ridiculous.

  • You and others miss the point. Not only is the crowd asked to participate and "sing along" at the beginning of the video, you can clearly see the energy built up in this room, and the band, especially Tim feed off of that. If you say why on earth would you scream over a band at their concert, then you obviously never attended a concert with the likes of this crowd, or band. This is one of my all time favorite live videos as well as audio recordings. A genuine, live punk rock concert.

  • @Aphonydissent Hahaha. That's funny. Because I don't agree with you I've never been to a show like this? Pretty stupid comment.

I worked at the Trocadero in Philly for almost 5 years. My first show ever was Rancid and the Goops like 15 years ago. You're 26 years old? I was singing on stage with Dicky Barrett before you had even heard of this genre of music.

You're entitled to your opinion, but it's wrong. Like i said...sing the choruses, but screaming over the band makes no sense.

  • @SROD12321 You are wrong dude. I grew up going to shows 4 nights a week and half the show the microphone is passed through the crowd or held out for everyone to sing. Hes not laughing at the crowd hes laughing with them. Whats your hangup.

  • Really? Half of an acoustic show is spent with the mic being passed around the room?

Hopefully by hearing someone else say it you can realize how dumb that sounds.

My hangup? I like to hear the band. I know this is sort of a revelation for some of you here. But I'd rather hear Tim Lars and Matt than the guy next to me screaming. Call me crazy.

I guarantee you interview them after the show and they would say it was fun but they wish they could have been able to hear each other.

  • @SROD12321 Its a punk show either way and thats what people do. Maybe thats why he says "sing along" and "louder" and keeps pointing to the crowd to keep singing. Im sure they were real pissed the crowd was singing that must have been why they were encouraging it. Maybe they should hire you to "hit people" because of their interuptions since thats what you said you would do. Back to what aphonydissent says about you. Your an idiot.

  • @pauisnow "Your an idiot." Hahahahahha. The best part is you'll have no idea why I am laughing. Head back to second grade for the answer.

  • @SROD12321 Ohh how sad it must be to be you. Your 30 yrs old and your getting joy from trying to make this into english class and laughing at a simple grammar error because you realized your arguing was stupid so you had to turn your effort somewhere else. I am glad I made you go Hahahahahahaha. Sorry I made you feel stupid.

  • There's that "your" thing again; I really do hope you work on that!

Yes, vets like me (29) have this thing about appreciating irony. My comment had little to do with grammar, but I'm not surprised that was lost on you.

I still don't get your point though. You say it's sad to be 30 and picking on grammar, yet you're 27 and you're calling a complete stranger an idiot because I don't share your opinion?

Maybe you need to pass a mic around an acoustic show and blow of some steam :)

  • @SROD12321 Very sad all the life\fun has been sucked from you. Maybe we can set up a rancid show for you with nice little tables in front of the stage and candles and you can sip some wine and if anybody gets loud or starts to have some fun you can "hit them".

  • I saw Screeching Weasel last Spring and sang every word and was in the pit the whole time, and I have tickets for their show on 4/7 with the Queers. I played an acoustic set myself on Saturday and mixed in covers of Radio, Boss DJ, Jaded, Linoleum, Violins. It was fucking awesome. People sang the choruses and I could hear myself during the verse; I'll post the video as soon as my boy uploads it. If everyone had screamed so loud I couldn't hear myself I would have wondered why I was there.

  • @Aphonydissent Yea, Tim feeds off of it by not singing. How inspiring.

  • wtf I wish I was there!!!

  • Operation ivy by Rancid yeeaaah! Operation ivy the best of group punk in the world!!!...For me...

  • Hey! That's the first solo I ever learned!

  • Me Too

  • Dont get me wrong - I love rancid, but Jesse needs to sing the op ivy stuff

  • @bbenihana1 They actually did a show where Jesse came out and sang a couple Op ivy songs with Rancid :]

  • @chuckb11 do you think you could put a comment on here with a link. I have been looking for many many years and havent found a vid of him with rancid yet.

  • thats soo sickk wen a crowd sings along like that

  • operation ivy's cover just kicked my ass.. awesome ;D

  • if you wanna hear a completly different cover look up aquabats version

  • i love the aquabats!!! PIZZZZZA DAY!!!!

  • Let me get this straight.

he's left handed, so yea the strings are arranged differently.

    cheers punks

    xx

  • is it true that Tim Armstrong plays a left handed(or right handed) guitar upside down because he's right handed(or left handed whichever)

  • this video is mislabeled, but anyways, great video, rancid and op ivy, both my favorite bands, cheers!

  • i would've killed to seen in san francisco when jesse michaels the lead singer of op.ivy jumped on stage w/rancid and sang sound system with them that would have been the greatest thing ever!

  • :O HOLY SHIT THAT HAPPENED!?

operation ivy needs to do one more show...i would do anything to be there

  • Fucking amazing!

I wish i could of been there.

  • he toured with them. and tim wanted him to join permanently but he didnt want to.

but that really doesnt matter at all. like i said. just because hes friends with rancid, helped write radio and started adeline records, doesnt make green day good at all.

  • billie joe helped them right radio. then tim asked him to join but he said no and lars was always with them so he decided to join

  • ok.. thanks for saying what i just said.

  • just because billie was in rancid doesnt mean green day is good lol.

i liked their first two, and a bit of dookie. but nothing much after that.

    rancid is good.

  • he wasnt in rancid, he helped write Radio

  • well billie joe and tim wrote a great rancid song radio

  • i agree with captainpoopface

i like some older green day

i just didnt like their knowledge cover

  • op ivy liked green day's knowledge cover.

  • their knowldege cover was just completly differnt, personally i like it.

  • SAME IT ROCKS!!!

  • for anyone that hates green day and likes rancid ill have u know that billie joe toured with rancid before they added lars and actually asked him to be the second guitar. they go way back. Billie joe was a tremendous op ivy fan

  • most rancid fans like early green day but when they sold out and became like blink-182 was when we started hating them

  • they were NEVER fucking like blink 182, blink 182 was crap and they ripped off green day and copied them cause they have no real life

  • no.. new green day sucks. its not punk and fucking 4th graders listen to it. get your head out of your ass and accept it.

  • just a bit of info....4th graders listened to Dookie....I should know I was in 4th grade when the album came out....

  • i listened to op ivy in 4th grade. whats it to you.

  • yes I love green day music except for American Idiots . AI really kinda sold out

  • yer cus im sure 4th graders care about sayin "fuck you" to george bush

  • excuse me but blink 182 sold out to be like Green Day...not the other way around. Dookie is the first green day album to have major commercial success and that album is punk. Green Days fans turned on them because of their success not because they sold out. and it only makes sense that after that the band did not adhere to making strictly punk records...moreover pop music can be relevant to kids and adults alike. Billie joe is a great songwriter and thats what it comes down to

  • You're fuckin right ;)

  • YESSS

    Totally agree!

  • You have this whole thing backwards. The kids absolutely turned on GreenDay because they sold out, not because of their success. GreenDay was hugely successful before Dookie. They gained a huge following on Lookout! records and drew the attention of major labels. They packed venues and the kids loved them.

When they signed to Reprise and kids saw their favorite underground band become the "new cool thing" it changed the way we saw them. Staying independant is a huge part of punk ethos.

  • Comment removed

  • @Asalamalika Thats what billie joe wrote about in the song 86.. its hard to judge bands for sellin out/buyin in but its easier to give love to those who dont and stay true and dont forget their roots..

  • @Asalamalika Thats not true, Fans stopped listening cause they changed theirs style completely!

  • Operation ivy have to be alive!

  • other way around.. green day did a cover of operation ivy's knowledge... typical

  • i think what Piddydafoo means is that they played it in the style of the greenday cover

  • fucking pop-punk bitch

  • lars' voice doesnt fit the song...i like him but it doesnt.Jesse Michaels was better.

  • fuck you! lars is a fuckin legend!

  • Lars is fantastic! You need to listen to his solo stuff, alot better then Tim, Tim is over rated.

  • his marie marie song is my fav of his

  • what the solo stuff that lars had to get tim to help him write??

  • Eh? Speak English boy!

  • nothin like acoustic punk something my band has been experimenting with alot lately

  • that was awsome

  • who writes poetry on youtube?

  • haha not me

    yer funny

for real that made me laugh

  • not sarcastic

  • can safely say your a wank!

but the op ivy version is better obv but this is acoustic man!

  • Be quiet. Muppet.

  • Yes, green day did a cover song of it, an illegal cover as stated on 1,000!

15 years ago I thought they were borthers because they shared the same last name armstrong.

  • ha ha, lars on the second verse is just like "yeah i'll just let the crowd sing this, they know it!" who doesn't know that song?!

  • they are not "borthers" nor are they brothers.

  • didnt greenday do a cover of this?

  • it's sad that some of you are saying punk done acoustic sucks. that's hella sad. i mean, listen to just the community it is. all the people singing along. it's crazy mad. just appreciate.

  • I have nothing to say

Punk rock still alive in us

    xD

    Operation Ivy and Hellcats Rocks

    xD

  • haha awesome

  • I love op ivy and rancid, but somehting about punk songs sung acoustic-style, it just doesn't sond good to me, but thats my opinion =)

  • shit man the whole crowd singing along sounds awesome as fuck!

  • Fuck I miss listening to OPIV and skateboarding all day, going to punk shows, breaking shit and playing in a punk band.. ah the times have changed. This band is forever a favorite, even if I don't listen to them that much anymore. I woulda killed to see this show though.

  • this is rancid

  • has every old punk band retired now ?

no one is coming out with new albums..

I guess this is a sign of me getting old :)

Op Ivy Owned and still does!

  • all kinds of old punk bands are coming out with new albums holmes, maybe your just not looking hard enough

  • omg fucking god, JordanPeterman, You are a twat, tim was in op ivy....what a fucking pooonany

  • you fucking jackass tim never SANG in operation ivy

  • Then who the fuck sings Bad Town? And he sings back up in lots of the songs, hes just not lead. Hell he even sings part of the chorus on Sound System.

  • Tim was back up, and he did sing on BAD TOWN! you assnite

  • he must not be an op-ivy fan. Tim did sing. he wasn't lead, but he still fucking sang backup

  • WOW JordanPeterman you dont know anything he sang badtown you dont even know Tim

  • FUCKING SWEET

  • tim never sang in op ivy, so why should he sing when they cover op ivy songs? tims style is so unique that i think lars nails the jesse micheals style alot better than tim would

  • dude your a fucken idiot, tim always sang in op ivy songs, he was the back up vocals, him and jesse were the only ones who sang.

  • jesus christ, what i was sayin is that lars sounds more like jesse micheals

  • "Too much attention unavoidably destroyed us"

  • well Tim really never sang anything in Op Ivy besides backup vocals anyway

  • they both are freaking awsome

  • good fuckin job

  • tim should of sang this. that other guy sounds like a ... well you know. if lint is in there he SHOULD SING

  • i love lars but i think tim should sing the op ivy songs

  • Legends !!

  • this is fukin wicked. i love lars singing and playing acoustic. proper sweeeeeeeeeeeet =)

  • whose the guy on the far left playing with them?

  • the bass dude

  • its their drummer

  • Beyond words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • on rancids new album they should have a cover of this with lars singing

  • God bless you Mr. Tim Armstrong

  • tim is my hero and i love him and how he slurs his words...4 kids on tour 3 thousand miles!

  • WHATTTTTTTTT!!!!!

This is soooo sweet!!! I used to take bart to the gilman in berk wayyyyyyy back, 20 years ago, just to go see operation IVy play!!!! great to see these folks!

  • hell yeah man, great video ya know both of those bands would not be the same if they didnt have armstrongs, i LOVE how he slurs his voice and words. tims cool as hell

    PUNX UNITE

  • i have to fix a misake in my first comment. it shouls be should not insted instead of should.

  • it is one of the best basslines. i kinda know how to play most of it

  • great acoustic version, cool all the way guys!!!!

  • anyone else think journey to the end has rancid's best bassline besides maxwell murder?

  • yea i do

  • Axiom

  • um..fuck yes

  • Mother fuckin Detroit! So much fun to play.. but if you want fast listen to White Knuckle Ride!

  • If u know anything about rancid u should know that journey to the end of the east bay is a tribute to operation ivy. I think it was kwl. Play a op ivy hit then a tribute to one of the best punk band ever

  • he should have imitat jesse's voice it a cover. they aren't trying to be op ivy the are rancid. the op ivy version is better but this is ok

  • the thing about a cover is to take the song and make it yours. Sure its a tribute to the group that made it but its what you can do with the song. Fuck musical purity we won't get anywhere with that shit.

  • Well since half of Rancid was in Operation Ivy is this really a cover? Even though Jessie wasn't there, Lars had to sing it as is... ps I was there.

  • nah no one will ever beat jesse one of the greatest

  • you all realize that both tim and matt were in op ivy right?

  • Not as good as Op Ivy's version.

  • tim is from op ivy so what a fucking discussion about nothing

cant he play his own fucking song?

  • the gayest thing since gay bread. It sounds like raffi covering op iv. Rancid are reaaaaaally over rated.

  • FUCK YOU

  • that's completely awesome.. but it just doesn't seem right.

i think jesse is the only guy that can sing that song and have it kick ass.

  • they did do it acoustic style

  • One of the best punk bands

  • Rancid is good, but I can't help but think that they are a sad shell of what was once a great band, especially when covering this song in this manner.
