I guess Popeye would look a little weird in an anime but you never know he might someday. I thought that he'll come around someday with a new show or something like in the late 70s, "The New Popeye Show" and 80s, "Popeye and Son". At least he still has franchise out and about.
Stoic expressions, Flapping mouths, Generic character Archetypes, Lazy Animation, Flimsy Characterization, Insipid "Plots". It's a wonder why Anime got popular to begin with (We were stupid kids or something?). I think maybe if the Japanese got a LITTLE more creative with their stuff (Like Miyazaki), the artform wouldn't be looked down upon these days.

Do Anime vs Marvel and DC Universe, anime will get whooped to the Nth degree in that comparison. You will never have one like that, know why? You are more likely to see anti anime people with that comparison for one main reason, Anime doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell to even light a candle to that. Anime isn't a genre, and as long as we treat it like one, these cliches will always persist. "Good cartoon" and "good anime" really need to be synonymous phrases in our minds.
I mean, I felt Macross and EXO-Squad were both great shows for similar reasons. Does it really matter which country they came from?
However, the word "cartoon" is often viewed as something meant to appeal to kids. I think this is part of the reason why the words "cartoon" and "Anime" are rarely considered synonymous. Before people start viewing anime and cartoon as the same, the way we view the word cartoon would need to change.
As a side note, this video really disappointed me... As a big Popeye fan I wanted to see Popeye interact with actual anime characters rather than made up characters to fit a cliche.
yeah DBZ was on japanese anime far before they put fake voices of Goku on Cartoon network... although my favorite american cartoon was on MTV liquid television "AEON FLUX" or marvel comics got pretty nice color details...

I liked Popeye but I think Anime is better now. It seemed unbalanced to me in this video if you did actually compare them Anime has an edge over it. In every episode I remember in Popeye he eats spinach and beats up Bruno almost every time not much story wise. While in Anime its story establish morals and values and gain something from watching it. Such great storys like Akira or Metropolis. Todays times it has greatly evolved but its noticable that Anime is far ahead of regular cartoons.

Anime is good and all, but you can't beat classic 30's/40's cartoons. Alot of anime fans need to get out of Japan and look at some of the greats. Like the Ralph Bashkie films, 90's cartoon shows and some of the modern Adult Swim shows.

Anyway, I think this video is hilarious! It's exaggerating common stereotypes in Anime (from an American viewpoint), but it also subtly pokes fun at our own cartoons: the way it ended, the level of suspension of disbelief & bizarre anatomy.
Both sides have their appeal, so it's unreasonable to actually argue over what's better.
I couldn't type more in my last post, so I'll back up my middle statement here.
-Anime has some crazy stuff in it, but most can't be considered "suspension of disbelief" because it's explained in the story. You don't question the X-men's mutant powers because we understand why they have them and (to a degree) how they work. In Anime it's the same. The abilities are always explained as part of the story (many of them have to do with eastern philosophy, so not everyone may understand this).
-Excluding super-deformed style (chibi), I believe Anime to be more realistic. Our cartoons and Anime are stylistically different, but Anime only really exaggerates things (Women have larger breasts in boy's Anime, the "muscle-head" type guys are ridiculously muscular to make more obvious, ect.) while our cartoons cannot be explained apart from being a "style". Also, Olive Oil's arms break physics.

@iSushi3000 For your information, Popeyes was one of the first cartoons. It basically was one of the founders of cartoons that all cartoons are based off of. Without Popeye, anime wouldn't be the way it is. Plus, no one watches naruto or bakugon. Those shows are terrible. You're probably too young to understand. But old cartoons are much more entertaining than anime.

I don't hate anime by the way. I just don't go nuts over it. Japanese animation is the most popular animated cartoon in the world so it's okay if you like anime.

I liked Popeye but I think Anime is better now. It seemed unbalanced to me in this video if you did actually compare them Anime has an edge over it. In every episode I remember in Popeye he eats spinach and beats up Bruno almost every time not much story wise. While in Anime its story establish morals and values and gain something from watching it. Such great storys like Akira or Metropolis. Todays times it has greatly evolved but its noticable that Anime is far ahead of regular cartoons.

Anime is good and all, but you can't beat classic 30's/40's cartoons. Alot of anime fans need to get out of Japan and look at some of the greats. Like the Ralph Bashkie films, 90's cartoon shows and some of the modern Adult Swim shows.

We're all entitled to our own opinions, but half (if not more) of the comments on this video are just pointless trolling and cannot be even considered "opinions"....
Anyway, I think this video is hilarious! It's exaggerating common stereotypes in Anime (from an American viewpoint), but it also subtly pokes fun at our own cartoons: the way it ended, the level of suspension of disbelief & bizarre anatomy.
Both sides have their appeal, so it's unreasonable to actually argue over what's better.

I couldn't type more in my last post, so I'll back up my middle statement here.
-Anime has some crazy stuff in it, but most can't be considered "suspension of disbelief" because it's explained in the story. You don't question the X-men's mutant powers because we understand why they have them and (to a degree) how they work. In Anime it's the same. The abilities are always explained as part of the story (many of them have to do with eastern philosophy, so not everyone may understand this).

-Excluding super-deformed style (chibi), I believe Anime to be more realistic. Our cartoons and Anime are stylistically different, but Anime only really exaggerates things (Women have larger breasts in boy's Anime, the "muscle-head" type guys are ridiculously muscular to make more obvious, ect.) while our cartoons cannot be explained apart from being a "style". Also, Olive Oil's arms break physics.

@iSushi3000 For your information, Popeyes was one of the first cartoons. It basically was one of the founders of cartoons that all cartoons are based off of. Without Popeye, anime wouldn't be the way it is. Plus, no one watches naruto or bakugon. Those shows are terrible. You're probably too young to understand. But old cartoons are much more entertaining than anime.

Anime is cheap and takes no talent to make, well it would take more talent to make, but japanese animators (esp. today) are lazy. Wonder why a good portion of anime looks the same? And why they are new episodes belted out like nothing? Because it's cheap and limited to near Hanna-Barbera levels. I'd be able to respect JP animation a lot more if they knocked it off with the stereotypical bullshit and start getting more versatile, oh and the fans would be a help too.
