  • French isn't the language of Quebec - it's the language the government's trying to impose on people - obviously the First Nations languages are the ones that are indigenous to it, and most of the colonists under the French regime were Norman or Breton - only a minority spoke French even then. It's illegal to use the Canadian language on signs - for example, everybody says American terms for parts of cars, but it's illegal to use the word "muffler', even though it's the word everyone uses.

  • thank you very much for your rémoignage actually here a lot of hypocrisy to us, we Bretons

  • again excellent video, make more. And excellent point Briezh (Brittany) should be a free soveriegn republic.

  • it really sounds like gaelic, though with an american accent. but you haven't uploaded any more video yet, i'm waiting for it

  • well i'm pretty sure this law you're talking about is no longer in use. people have no problem talking britton if they want to

as for quebec, our need to separate goes far beyond the language.

  • bhideo inntinneach. taing airson seo, bha còir agam coimhead air na bu thraithe.

  • I think there should be an alternative (not replacement) Irish-based spelling for Manx, so that we who learn Irish and Scottish-Gaelic could easier learn Manx as well.

E.g. 'Go raibh maith agat' is spelled 'Gura mie ayd' in Manx. Too far from the etymology if you ask me.

In my native Faroese we have the Icelandic letter 'ð' which we never pronounce, Icelanders pronounce it as 'th'. But it is very 'practical' from an etymological point of view.

  • Gura mie ayd and go raibh maith agat are not pronounced the exact same way.

  • wow never heard manx before. very very much like irish gaelic. how hard is it to learn and where

  • Ta my khree ayns Gaelg Vanninagh!!

Va mee gynsaghey y çheerey, agh nish cha y traa aym!!

But you shud be immensely proud of yourself for what youve learned, and you make a fantastic point about the French. Gura mie ayd!!

  • I've never heard Manx before! It sounds wonderful! ^_^ You have a really good point about Breton. I didn't know about the whole France/Québec thing, but it's a huge eye-opener.

I hope to learn Breton and Manx someday =]

  • wtf!!! Brittany should have the right to be its own country if France has such a shit attitude towards it...

  • Woah woah woah... it's really illegal to speak Breton in Brittany? If so, that's rediculous.

  • Not illegal to speak it, just illegal to teach it (which is essentially the same thing).

  • I thought they still taught it as LV2 (langue vivante 2)?

Well, anyway... I think Brittain is still an important part of France (bretons made great efforts for what they thought was good for france, for instance they had strong resistance fighting during WWII and they had a royalist resistance as well durign the revolution), and more and more people are losing their Nationalist Breton side.

  • They did what was good for Brittany, not France. They supported the royalty because the royalty had allowed them to remain independant, the revolutionary government crushed the Breton identity through brainwashing and social stigma, which is why so many people are losing it.

Teaching it as an LV2 serts at very little right now, seeing as through the 1940s-2000s the French government has done so much to kill it. Too little too late.

  • Oh... It's always sad when a country completely ignores its diversity...

  • What are you using to learn Gaelg? I've been looking for stuff all over the place but can't seem to find anything good.

  • Nvm, you already answered me on unilang lol.

  • Bhuel tá sé ceart go lóir go bhfuil tú ábalta a chaint as Mhainnigh!!! Wú!!!

  • Gura mie ayd agh jeer cha voddym loayrt er ard ro vie ayns Gaelg. Ta'n çhellveeishaghyn shoh goaill tammylt.
