  • i played this song when i was in high school. i was a french horn player. we also played festivo, and american elegy.

  • Great piece. I played this in College under Dr. Bill Stowman of Messiah College.

Flute intonation around 2:40 was pitchy...with upper brass a bit later in the descending intervals. Saxophone intonation was fine. We performed this with

English Horn and Oboe and it was EXTREMELY difficult to get to two to jive. Love the warmth, broadness around 5min. I would take more time from 6 min on...Nice starting point.

From a M in Mu Ed with 6 years teaching experience. :)

  • We are playing this, and I have the soprano saxophone solo, on clarinet though. (: It's a beautiful piece. I love it, and you did a good job.

  • yes @ tripletounger: I was one of the bassoon players for that performance!

  • Alright, I admit that was rude and I'm very sorry. But I still stand by the interpretation I've been taught and we have done something right if we could make Richard Floyd say "wow" last week. When the DVD becomes available I would be more than happy to share it (unless MFA has already posted it on their website).

  • @stormtroopernoob First, THANK YOU so much for the constructive criticism. But you seem to have missed the point. The reason I post these videos is to learn from children less than half my age who know more than I do. I mean, I only have a master's degree from one of the most prestigious music conservatories in the country. Clearly I have so much more to learn from geniuses like you. So please - point me in the right direction. Direct me to a video of a real conductor so that I can improve!

  • @funconductor Don't listen to them, they're jealous! You can't expect any wise words coming from someone with the word "noob" in their name. :)

  • @stormtroopernoob and who the fuck are you Alfred Reed?

  • I love this song. We played it at our region band concert yesterday.

  • are you from south carolina cuz u might have been there together??

  • @mackboi93 yeah, i'm from summerville SC, i was a trumpet player.

  • i was the tenor sax player with the gray sax

  • Oh yeah, I remember you. I also saw you at your audition. You were across from the french horn room. Thats where i was working that day. What high school do you go to?
