Google Yoshifumi Hashimoto, his is the producer of Marvelous Interactive for Oboro Muramasa, and also Google 2d renaissance. Lets face it folks, 3D just doesn't have the punch it use to.

2D games are actually more expensive to produce than 3D games nowadays. Why is that you ask? Because with 3D games, computer draws everything for you, and with a 2D games you have to draw most of everything yourself. Plus, there aren't as many developers specializing in 2D games these days as there were back then(most of them are indie).

unless you have seen the amount of work required to make just one 3d prop in one game engine, you have no idea what you are talking about. 3d modeling and animation are both incredibly tedious and time-consuming, and, given the technical skill required, is hardly inexpensive.

I understand that 3d modeling is hard to do. Thats why many developers license already developed engine, such as the Unreal3(to save time and money). So I do apologize for saying that earlier. However, 2d games are harder to produce than 3d, because you don't have a computer helping you do the animations all the time. :)
