@aquaboris, really, any mass that's portable will work. I think the attraction here is that the ceramic lined steel will never clump, is safe (no lead dust) and you can reuse it over and over.
Why not just while mounting place the beads inside the tire instead do it it through the valve_? What happens if u lose some of them, that means your tire won't be balanced??

You can put them into the tire when you mount it, but often I have a shop mount the tires and have to add the beads later.
