@raginroadrunner, you must not be in the millitary, i have made 700m shots with my M16 with an RCO(ACOG for you keyboard warriors ) i don't know how much energy it was carryng but if you can compensate for bullet drop like and are familiar with your windage you can make a T-shot at that distance and the .308 is absolutely not junk the .240 a shit hot weapon system extremely acurate at long distances and 7.62x51 rounds pack a lot of knock down power.
The 30.06 blew away most anything in its path.. it had a good long effective range..it had very good hydrstatic shock power...now a light guage metal shield stops the .223 mini bullet...it bleeds enengy past 200 yards and falls out of effective range past that distance...the old WW2 guys had it right..then the pentagon mucked it up...as for the .308...absolutely junk.....
@raginroadrunner Your an idiot. If you actually shot firearms or even looked at ballistic tables the .30-06 and 7.62 NATO have almost identical flight paths. The case size of the .30-06 is unnecessary for the round. They even deliver comparable energy.. You lose tons of recoil by going to the 7.62 and still retain most if not all the power. Another internet commando who thinks he knows shit .
When loaded to military specs the .30-06 and 7.62 NATO are equal. The M2 Ball loading leaves plenty of space but that was the pressure limit of the M1 Garand operating system. M2 Ball drives the 150 grain .308 bullet at 2,800 fps. When you use a rifle that isn't designed for a limited port pressure the .30-06 completely outclasses the 7.62 NATO. You can drive a 208 A-max at 2,800 fps out of a .30-06. 7.62 NATO can't come close to that velocity.
yah were dumbasses for not using a 92 year old gun. yes it is a very good and reliable weapon but there are so many more advanced weapons that are more lethal and deadly, that will fire faster more accurately that its just not very likely at all for it ever to be recommissioned.
Great to see this ol' gal is still being taken out and put through her paces.
Interesting to see the way he has to keep raising his head up to scan for the target/observe bullet strike. The BAR rear apperture sight is very small - bad field of view. Much easier with the Bren.
Grandpops shot himself some krauts with that baby :)

Jack up the magazine capacity to 30 or 40 rounds and I'd carry this gal into combat even today.
