Hello, I have a question. Does hitting a topspin in table tennis cause the ball to bounce higher or sink faster? Because in tennis, the more you hit with topspin, the higher the ball will bounce. When I'm brushing the ball in ping pong, the ball doesn't bounce as much, but it quickly drops after the bounce. Is this normal when you hit a heavy topspin or is my technique wrong? I'm fairly new, only played about two weeks.

@nybombs That's perfectly normal. Topspin causes the ball to arc down suddenly and then skip forward lower.

If the ball goes on the white line and then to the ground, does that count as a point?

@Jolasveininn If the ball hits the white line on top of the table it is counted as in and the opponent must return the ball or they lose the point.

@lolirockso I'm not sure exactly what you mean. But if you mean "lots of spin" when you say crazy spin, then yes it is the same but just more spin.

I have a question, hope someone can answer. Nowadays everyone plays with hard rubbers, but I cant put any speed in the ball with hard rubbers. Now im using soft rubbers, but my short game is really horrible with it because the ball just jumps of my rubbers. Im using a pretty slow blade with soft wood, could that be my problem that I cant get any speed with hard rubbers? Because with soft rubbers I can really loop extremely fast. thanks!

@kaikaz No, your rubbers are not the problem. With soft rubbers you just have to move your underarm a bit more than with hard ones. Remember that in your training and you will get a better feeling with your rubbers close to the table and so your game will improve.

Angle the bat down.

keep the bat near and behind the table and put ur bat below a 45 degree angle

keep the racquet down and loosen the grip when blocking a topspin...this will ensure that the ball doesn't go higher as the opponent would expect it to...this can also be used to drop the ball short near the net so the opponent can left it for you to move closer to the table and smash it back at the opponent..i do this with agressive players and get them every time :)

Yup. Sometimes these videos can be quite misleading, although their intention is good.

He clearly states: "a little bit above eye level".

It also looks like the camera is rather low, so seen from the side, it may look like his Jeff's hand is going over his head, which is not really the case.

Thanks, yes the bat is finishing just above the eye level.  You can go higher if you want to get the ball higher and slower to vary the pace of the ball. This is often a good tactic if the other player is faster and stronger than you.
