TRUE, Baiul won but just BARELY, it's not like she "kicked ass." Both Kerrigan and Baiul received the same exact scores for artistic impression...and on the otherhand, Kerrigan's score was much higher in technical merit. According to today's standard, Kerrigan would've won due to GREATER technical difficulty.
@lilmisstoepix17 I don't know about 50 points, but Nancy would have gotten credit for landing all her jumps on one foot and doing her triples in combination. She also would get more credit for holding her spiral position longer than Baiul did hers. Also for doing combination spins. I don't think I'll ever get over the absurdity of the outcome. It wasn't even a close call, in my opinion.
@JNagarya Of course I had more sympathy for Kerrigan because she's American, and yes, the outcome bothers me more than it otherwise would because she's American. There you're right. But that's not all that matters. My comments stand regarding the technical merit of Kerrigan's program exceeding that of Baiul's.
@Dylvente The competitors' nationalities are IRRELEVANT; it is neither a technical skill nor an artistic accomplishment. It is not a scoring consideration. One more time:
There are two programs. In the TECHNICAL the TECHNICAL is central, any artistic elements having lesser weight. The ARTISTIC program is called the ARTISTIC program because the ARTISTIC is central, the technical aspects having lesser weight. The ARTISTIC is not to be yet another TECHNICAL.

@JNagarya...,if u say so. Baiul's program was NOWHERE near as challenging as the other skaters...esp Chen Lu. She really was a child competing with adults. Too bad peopel are recognizing it now instead of then. Kerrigan won HANDS DOWN! HINT which is why she received 6 , 5.9's for artistic impression! DUH!
@JNagarya then why did they revamp the scoring system?! to allow the more challenging elements to matter as well! I agree, artistic program should hold some merit and it did. BUT, who deserves more credit...a person who steps up their game and provides a challenge or a person who plays it safe and non-challenging! Nancy was artistic, she had beautiful movements and gracefully glided over the ice. oksana'S program DIDN'T flow, it was just cute....THAT'S ALL!

@hvnlycrtr I heard Nancy would have won by 50 points on the CoP.

@Dylvente Admit it: Kerrigan is American, and you're American, and that's all that matters in this instance.
The Olympics are about excellence -- not flag-waving nationalism.

@hvnlycrtr BS. The ARTISTIC prgram is to be ARTISTIC -- that's REQUIRED.
Otherwise, Oksana was a living, breathing human being. Kerrigan was a cadaver.

@hvnlycrtr Watch Kerrigan again: she's emotionally cold, robotic. She skated from the neck up. The ARTISTIC is to involve the WHOLE person.
