this is what miles davies called fusion.putting two or more styles or genres of music together to produce, what is pleasing to the ear,rip malcolm,u where be4 your time.
i remember being mesmerized by this when it first came out... and still today, it sends shivers thru me... The likes of Malcolm, i doubt well see again, we were blessed..i rem also, wanting to see this fine opera, and have done many times, its haunting..
@Kermodeii - On this album, the song that came right after this one was one that started off with a guy saying, "5 minutes, 5 minutes" then there was a girl talking about being in love with a performer and Turandot was used for that one. I think it was called "Fans." Have you seen that one anywhere on Youtube?
True story-I just woke up from a dream - and this song was playing in the background, in my dream. I was in my dream-dressed like Madame Butterfly, singing and mourning for my two missing children....I was in mourning-like Madame Butterfly...
I have faith, unshakable faith, that they will return to me some day....
wot a gr8 man not only remembered 4 his work wiv the sex pistols n the punk revolution but also 4 all his ova gr8 works n contributions 2 the music industry u will b sadly missed n always remembered luvs ya
I read an article in the Dallas Morning News today about the death of Malcolm Mclaren and all they talked about in reference to his life was his clothing store in London and his association with the Sex Pistols. That is not how I knew of him AT ALL!!! I knew of him through his music. The album Fans was spectacular! Unparalleled!. God Bless his family and may Malcolm rest in peace. XOXO Sandra Cuellar
Now I got my 3 girls into it (ages 8, 6 and 2 who hate anything that's not teeny-bopper crap!) There is nothing in the world like this song! Except maybe Falco's 'SOUND OF MUSIK'
Anyone know of a song that Malcolm McLaren did with William Burroghs? could be on this LP - not sure if I have my facts correct. Thank you for putting this on YouTube
Just like Samphibian, this song brings back strong memories of the good old days spent standing on a narrow window sill holding a gym towel soaked with bleach. The aroma of the bleach permiating and entering my nostrils as both universes flew past at five times the speed of sound. The feel of fresh warm urine running down my leg from my jocks and one of my gym socks filling my mouth. The muffled sounds made by my attempts to sing the lyrics. Suckling on the sickly sweet taste of my gym shoes.
beautiful. my dad played this alot when i was growing up, reminds me of the good life i had when i was an innocent child. samphibian, your story saddens me, ive been thinking about it all week. x
I just found the vinyl today, and it's in great condition! It was lying flat on top of a stack and the crazy cover caught my eye. I saw "laren" and thought, "No, it can't be".
Thanks for posting this. I have a funny connection to this song, which is that it was on a friend's boombox one chilly day when I was sniffing ether in high school. Standing on the windowsill with a clean white gym sock soaked with ether in my hand, I was profoundly affected by the sadness and beauty of the music and the story of Madame Butterfly. The whole universe was cool, buzzing, sweetly sad and exquisite.
lol Samphibian, that's the kind of memory I can relate to :D Although for this particular song I was just 12 yrs old back in '84. Still it reminds me of a family holiday that year, I listened to it on the radio as my dad drove us along the coast in Cornwall.

If it hadn't been for me hearing this song back when I was a teenager, I don't think I would be listening to the full Puccini opera today.
