I think another reason why the band fell was the fact that Richard Ashcroft and Nick Mccabe weren't the best of friends and had a rather turbulent relationship. Richard was kind of the John Lennon to Nick's Paul Mccartney. It's just something I read about the band.
Some of the lyrics remind me of Peach's song "You Lied". I suspect the writer of the band was influenced by the Verve. I like Tool's live cover of the song better though, they did a better job at it than Peach
Greatest band in history...nothing can beat la verve!!!!! pure awesomess, brillant lives, great albums...psychedelia, shoegaze, alternative rock everything in just one band...60's 90's sound defines the verve.
@Pire002 They are god awful and an industry joke. Richard is called Lord Flashcroft and they don't even rehearse together anymore. They are a souless joke....just an opinion though..
that is so fucking true, there is no other band like them! show me other band over the last 40 years that can or make the effort to create the same sound and feeling that they make.
One of my favorite songs. I bought the EP when it came out. I'd never heard of them before but read they were good - this was the first song I heard and was blown away. Later, when Storm in Heaven was released, I was totally dedicated to singing their praises as the best new band at that time.
es un muy buen tema...ellos están en aquel concierto muy jóvenes..pero,está de la patada reecontra chevere...de la p.m!!ojala el tiempo no hubiese cambiado....THE VERVE de los noventas...
Oh God...I would have love have been there when they played here..Lucky audience. Thank u 4 this gem Brunnerka!!Where's the rest of da interview at the end of this vid? Pls..Pls post it! ;)
I agree with all the folks who rate the first Verve album. We should hope that the new stuff measures up to that, not the urban hymns nonsense. What do I know? I'm only a music fan...
Stop being all so snobbish about Urban Hymns... It's the most popular, but it doesn't make it a pile of shite. To me all the albums are just equally fucking brilliant.
there's plenty of psychedelia on urban hymms - this time, neon wilderness, space and time, weeping willow, etc - that are equal to NS and storm in heaven.
Even with the strings, BSS is still very much what the verve were about; uplifting and yet soul destroying in equal measures.
I have no idea how you got hold of this video but its awesome!! Can't wait for their new album - hopefully its a bit like a storm in heaven, such a great album....
Ascent you are so right! A Storn in Heaven & A Northern Soul, & even No Come Down , the remix disc are the 3 best albums of all time. Urban Hymns was piss-weak in comparison...The best band of my life time!
This is from the 1993 Glastonbury. The Verve were on about 2 oclock on saturday afternoon.Me and my mate sat down by the NME stage and watched them we had never heard of them. Thanks for posting brings back great mems
I like to call this Acid-grunge for the sake of it, although I do not believe in labels. But I thought it was deserving of one, that's how good it is.
Love this!!!!

Or maybe the Verve was influenced by Peach as the song was written in the 80's.. Maybe great minds really do think alike

I just wish they had continued to explore this style rather than ending up with the bilge that it their new album.
Storm In Heaven is one of my favorite and most played albums ever. The rest of it just doesnt do it like thier first stuff.

Couldn't agree more. The first two albums are great, then they lost it. Now they are a joke. I miss them. Feel is my favourite track and grey skies.
