Having the exhaust on the right side and power cable on the left is probably a big plus as I hate my HP min-note 2133 for having them on the opposite side. It means I can't turn it on the side and watch movies in bed without it getting really hot or hurting my neck. Looking left is more natural for right-handed people.

Yes, the video under vlc starts up fairly quick because you started vlc once before you click on the videoicon.
