  • no. im just a random person...

  • He's simply the biggest genious that I've ever heard. Thank you for all, Robert.

  • What album is this one from?

  • My favorite version is on The Basement Tapes. This version, though, was recorded in order to appear on Greatest Hits Vol. 2. The two versions have a different tempo, some different lyrics, etc.

  • I prefur this one over the basement tapes version. And I don't know why. But thank you anyway.

  • the essential bob dylan

  • great album

    truly essential

  • amen brother Bob!

  • one of the best

  • Dylan, you are SO!!! Great...Thank you for your genious

  • Dylan deserves the Nobel genius prize just because..' Ghengis Khan and his brother Don'....... don't get much better

  • fucking right lemk...

  • @lemkowitz1 love that verse =D

  • @lemkowitz1 What do you think it's referring to. Today, for some reason it reminded my of my grandpa, a fiddler, and I wrote a poem to it. You're right. It don't get much better.

  • is this the original basement tapes version from 67-68 - later released in 75?

it's very good - whatever it is...

  • Bob Dylan....a true genius

  • The feeling Dylan puts into this song is just amazing. And that banjo...

  • whats with all the lords in your lyrics?...

  • the birds are famous for slaughtering dylan tunes

  • There are good by-products to slaughter houses; burgers & ham to name some

  • the patters heavy rotten

  • Always loved this song, thanks for posting this.

  • BOB DYLAN!

  • DITTO!!

  • Pick up your money

    Pull up your tent McGuinn.

    rotfl!

  • who is McGuinn?

  • guy from Byrds, they covered this song but made a misteke in lyrics (verses with money and tent), so this is probably some alternate "funny" take with a sarcastic message to McGuinn

  • Dylan re-recorded it for the 1971 Greatest Hits 2 collection, with the slam on Roger McGuinn.

  • I think the original lyrics was "Pick up your money/Pack up your tent", McGuinn sang it "Pack up your money/Pick up your tent". Dylan sang the new lyric here with the shot at McGuinn. Nice shot.

  • i gave a street guy 2 bucks today and he played me this song. id never heard it before. made a note of some of the lyrics in my phone and found it. his was actually better in my mind...but thats probably because i prefer a plain acoustic and voice. no offense to dylan.

  • there is a dude that plays awesome dylan covers he is usually in kenmore station i stop to hear him every time im on the t

  • he was so cute! n obviously the best musician ever,,,,,,,,,,,

  • this viersion is way better

  • Im dislextic.

  • Dylan is a lot more than just music man!!! Listen to the Lyrics, his songs are parabells. Read them out without the choon and they are poetry. There is nobody that even come close to the genius of Bob Dylan. He is my insperation.

  • Perhaps you meant "parable"

  • every time i hear this song i get nothing but happy thoughts and good memories.

  • I feel the same way!

  • ME TOO YAY

  • you listen to songs like -I'm not there and sad eyed lady of the lowlands-and then you hear this. Seriously-is there anything this man can't do?

  • Does this song put a smile on anyone else's face? I ♥ this song.

  • HELL YA THIS IS one of my favorite songs have you ever hard wagon wheel he acttualy wrote it but old crow medicine show plays it

  • He wrote the chorus. Old Crow wrote the verses and changed the chorus a little bit.

  • I think you are thinking of Wagon Wheel, unless I am missing a part of the conversation somewhere.

  • Strange... Wilson, a person said, 'have you heard Dylan's version of Wagon Wheel, it is great, he wrote it' - I replied to him, but he seems to have deleted his post.

  • Does being a great leader of diverse peoples mean that you're not a barbaric despotic leader?

  • to blakmorth: I highly doubt it. It would seem your guilty of "over-interpretation" As are most people that listen to Dylan. His songs don't "mean" all that stuff people think they do, he wrote them, and then people attached meanings to them. You can do it with just about every form of art. It usually doesn't mean jack shit.

  • Re: guilty of ovr intrprtatn, Dylan is not your rglar sng writer, also a poet, he ws redng clssics erly teens. He dwn plays his knowldedge but hd a vry lucid mind frm early on. Pms have menng. Dylan was not frivlus, suprficial or artficl. But he did write some songs just for fun w lyric and rhyme. When he met the Beatles and turned thm on(literatively in a cannabis srt of wy) , He said to John n Paul your songs are about nothing. Afterwrds John strtd wrtng mre Dylanesque, ala Rubber Soul.

  • i rekon the beatles and bob dylan are equal on how awesome they are

i think people should stop trying to say what music is or what it is about

because really its there to enjoy.

wether you are listing puley for joy or to understand they lyrics

    music is music.

    good or bad.

    meanful or meaningless.

    xxx

  • one of my favorite dylan songs

  • God

  • Legend.

  • I love Bob Dylan

  • Its pull up your tent McQuin. A reference to Roger McQuin from the Byrds a friend and rearranger of many of Dylans songs.

  • Pull up your tent in the wind.

  • there will always be a lot of good singers who do great on Dylan's songs,

but nobody can sing like Dylan.

you can't compare Dylan with any other singers, cuz he is too special to be compared with.

  • Have you seen MC Carpenter, Shawn Colvin and Roseann Cash do this at the 30th Anniversary tribute??? It is awesome and has different lyrics!!

  • yes they do an excellent version!!!

  • This has got to be the most underrated Dylan song ever.. Thank God my parents bought me the Greatest Hits Volume II for Christmas because I've been listening to it nonstop ever since. I love when he says, "Ghengis Khan and his brother Don." I love history :) So that was a nice surprise.

  • Ghengis Khan and his brother Don is a reference to the Everly Bros contentious relationship that led to their not performming let aone talking to each other for 10 yrs. Dylan was in a mortocycle accident that laid him off, he was worried about not performing After he had the accident he ws not going nowhere.

  • why does he say "ghengis khan" then? how does that relate to the everly bros?

  • Ghengis Kahn was a barbaric despotic leader. Phil Everly was controling and had a nasty temper (let's leave it at that ).

  • Prior to Dylans accident he ws on the fast track now he ws going to have time for movies (Gunga Din), shopping perhaps buy sme rings, a gun that sings, a flute that tutes, &a b tht stings a sky tht cries & a bird tht flies, a fish tht walks & a dog tht talks. Life chngd for him as quickly as clouds so swift bring rain He ws frced to rst on an easy chair. Also a good time to detox frm unhlthy hbts. Everly Bros are Phil and Don also refrnced in Paul McArtneys Let Em In.

  • Dylan was being sarcastic about looking foreward to movies and shopping and resting on an easy chair .

  • see speedy ronan on myspace. he does this song it's good...some different lyrics though.

  • ich find ih genial

  • Haha. You got THAT right, spim1983!

  • torpedosam88, do you know what genial means? it is a compliment...just wanted to be sure you knew what you were agreeing with.

  • This is such a good song, but no one ever plays it. I first got it off tab, played it and loved it, but i've been to many a gig and I've never heard it played live, until I did it.

  • who marked as spam............moron

  • "Genghis Khan and his brother Don..." Always liked those lyrics. The Byrds version is my favorite.

  • Gram and the Byrds did it better..

Blasphemy, you might think but do me a favor by listening to their awesome folk-turned-country rendition. It RULES!

I apologize if I've offended any of you.

haha! Dylan may agree with me though.

  • lol, ofc you can have your opinion

and as i'm a massive dylan freak, that kinda statement would normally make my blood boil..but this song is too damn good to argue about xD

    no matter who does it

  • top.

  • Love the banjo!

  • awesome song!

chords are G, am, C, G if anyone was wondering

  • I was actually, thanks alot!

  • making a playlist for the love divine who sent me this video/song

  • Yep G harmonica. But yea I's only got's a D, But I's also got a Capo so...

    I Love Bob Dylan!!!!!

  • hehe, i've only got a G :P

just bought a neck rack, love playing this song -but it's annoying cos i can't do don't think twice and other songs in diff key ):

  • Yea. I love to play, I had a dollar store one and I taped it to my guitar and just rocked and so my mom was like we need to get you one. I had no Idea about Harmonicas then I just knew that I was playing D... so I said D which it was and yea I got a Rack too. yea I love making my own songs butt I need more.=] CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!! haha

  • YEAH! :P i've the same idea in mind

there's a case of Jambone harmonicas on amazon for about £40 i think -i was gonna try and buy em soon, there are 12 harps, one in every key. Now that'd be cool xD

  • why dont you use a capo?

  • well i have G, so i can only play uncapoed songs

so all the songs in different keys i can't do the harmonica to, cos they're capod

  • This is my favorite version I've heard.
