But I prefer National anthem to be inspiring and uplifting as it's main function is to unite and rally people in times of need. But again, it's just my opinion. French anthem is about its revolution from oppressing royalties and giving people their powers. It's about freedom and struggle. But I'm not really talking about lyrics. I was referring to somewhat somber tone of melody in Japanse anthem. It sounds depressing to me compared to most anthems.

It has the oldest lyrics in any national anthem. The Dutch national anthem is the oldest with lyrics and music. Dutch-Japan Friendship forever :D ( I want to learn Japanese so bad )
I just don't like how the music for the anthem is performed with the use of western instruments and the traditional western rhythm pattern. It would be much cooler with the usage of traditional japanese instruments like the shamisen, yamatogoto, sanshin, koto etc and a guy in his 40's with a grovely voice kicking ass to top it off. That kind of song would inspire awe and admiration which is the true spirit of japan.
@Archronos1 It was composed with western instruments in mind. It was composed in the days when the western stuff had quite the hype in Japan, after the end of the feudal days, so of course it follows western patterns.

@kingtubenino Well if you go listen to the lyrics, you will find out you're wrong. and maybe it doesn't represent their power cause they are peaceful. Maybe thats why they have such a peaceful song which is only about 28 words long.

@kingtubenino since I came there. They were peaceful whenever my dad was stationed there. They might not be so peaceful now since the tsunami and other things. But truly no other country is ever truly peaceful, shit is going down everywhere as we speak.

15歳で緊張して失敗したのかも知れないけど、松浦の歌唱力は相当なもんだよ。歌唱力だけで言ったら、日本でもトップクラス。彼女に歌唱力が無いと思っている人は、昔のアイドルソング歌ってる頃のイメージしかないんだろう。

もっと歌唱力のあるアーティストに歌ってもらいたいです。
「人気があるから」とかだけで、歌唱力も中途半端なアイドルに歌ってほしくない。
別にアイドルを否定しているわけではありません。
ただ、ＡＫＢが歌う君が代よりも、本田美奈子。さんのような人が歌う君が代のほうが

I just don't like how the music for the anthem is performed with the use of western instruments and the traditional western rhythm pattern. It would be much cooler with the usage of traditional japanese instruments like the shamisen, yamatogoto, sanshin, koto etc and a guy in his 40's with a grovely voice kicking ass to top it off. That kind of song would inspire awe and admiration which is the true spirit of japan.

@Archronos1 It was composed with western instruments in mind. It was composed in the days when the western stuff had quite the hype in Japan, after the end of the feudal days, so of course it follows western patterns.

@FallenAngel2611992 I would dispute the oldest. There was no "Japan" as we know it today prior to 1868, and thus no national anthem. The entire concept was alien to the country.
