HappyWandy457, this is superb musical thinking! The subtle links between this trilogy -Conductor-Interpreter and Composer were wonderfully described by Barenboim because he is king in all of them! Nevertheless, his hight is quite of a lonely place to share with fellow musicians: There is an obscure cloud of selfishness among music lovers, because of their criticism which doesnt allow their soul growth.
He is incredibly wise. I think every musician should think this way, and feel this utter connection that is almost physical. Thankyou for posting this interview. :)
Thank you for a clear insight on the ideal prerequisites of intimate knowledge of the physicality of sound and the soul of music (by playing an instrument) and the music's anatomy (by composing) in order to be a good conductor. Most enlightening, Maestro Barenboim! :)
Music is something what is there IN us, touching us, the soul, by the physical skills of the body: the ears, the incredible intelligent miracle of nature: that nerve system fills with the subtle energies our complete physical body, and makes it shine, colours it, the emotional body we are also, the mental and the spirtual body: the more subtle but oh so sensitive bodies. And yes, all what helps to develope them is needed, not only to be a conductor, but also as a human being. To experience God.
He talks brilliantly. I wish it had gone on for longer.
