@MrAvillegas99 its called new wave by common. I only clocked when i played both chorus's one after the other, dilla has sampled a lot from this guy which goes to show that dilla had good taste!!!!!
@arjuna1986 Daaaamn...and I listened to "New wave" a bunch of times but I just listened to it again and I still don't hear it. which part of the song?
I know he also sampled "Open Your Eyes" but thats it.
Otherwise I know about "my flame," "coming down from love," "carry on" and of course "what you won't do for love" being sampled from other producers.
I've been looking for this song since I first heard it back in 1982. I never managed to find it, didn't know the exact name or who sang it. But I remembered the lines to the chorus searched for that and finally found it. I was probably 12 or 13 when I first heard it. Funny though, I had no idea what it was about til now.
I found a short time after I heard this song. All of bobby song that are powerful are about his life. He was in a home for people who had a break down. what you won't for love is a story of him driving 99 miles one each to see a women every day.
I think it very much sounds like Steely Dan. I know that their former drummer Jeff Porcaro played on this album, but I don't recall if it was on this track or not.
@ilovesteelydan I'm sure you are right! I just know that most of his early albums were electronic drums unfortunately. I think all of the songs would have been better with real drums. However, Bobby is still my favorite singer of all time as well as my favorite song writer. I have seen him 4 times and he has never disappointed! Thanks for chatting!!!
I guess you didn't live through the 80's? the decade of technology. If it weren't for drum machines and synths, music wouldn't have the many textures that it's had over the years.
THIS WAS A GREAT SONG ON THE "CARRY ON" LP IN 1982. I LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM EVERY DAY WHEN I WAS STATION AT FT. BRAGG. SO MANY MEMORIES.

This IS kind of a sad song. But it's a beautiful song, and it's reality. Sing it Bobby. And yeah, the Rhodes is beautiful, too.

It's funny that this song sounds like it's about a rest home named Sunny Hills.

URSINHOdePELUCHE 3 years ago 8
That's funny cause it makes me feel kinda up beat. The hook sounds like it would be the add for the retirement home. I love it.

@ilovesteelydan Most of the drumming here are programmed electronics!

Perhaps, but Porcaro was listed on the credits of the album. I'm not sure if he played on this song though.

Real drums don't necessarily make songs better. "Heart of Mine" is a fantastic album, and it's all drum machine.
