Get over it, METCARD is still a VALID ticketing system. If you don 't want to get held up by people who PAY their way. Then find another mode of transportation. I hear bicycles are back in fashion.
This doesn't seem markedly different from Myki except for the general purpose debit aspect. Frankly, I can't see why anyone would be dazzled by the latter.
Octopus uses distance based fares, while myki uses zones. To change to distance based fares would require a radical shakeup of the system and would disadvantage those living far from where they work. Myki is progressively being rolled out more and more, newsagents and the newsagent kiosks in the city are now doing topups, new myki gates have gone in at Melbourne Central and Parliament (the MC ones were opened today). @Scyeth, if you put your myki close to one side of your wallet and always touc
IMO myki card is a complete failure, I'd much rather use the ticketing system we have now than that piece of crap. Why is it so hard for the victorian government to copy this system? The card can barely detect through my wallet, which results in me pulling out the card 90% of the time. Wasn't this card made to be more convenient for travellers? Also, why do they still have the 2hr/daily thing on it, I was thinking it would be destination calculation. stupid Victorian government. GRR
it's likely that myki will be rolled out to allow payments for products/services other than transport, however we need to wait for it to be rolled out across the state first
I simply can't wait for or T-Card to be in operation by 2012 in New South Wales. It's been a 12 year wait!!! It was promised in year 2000, but delays after delays due to snail pace of N.S.W. gov't and T-Card contracts being in disrepute or ripped up. Something along the lines (if you get what I've typed).
@fehquig Yea it's terrific. We are only just getting a auto cash card in Australia now ... I just wish they would incorporate the same cash purchasing on the Myki system.
@Jordmate Hahahaha... As you know I am Dutch and my English isn't all that sometimes... But when I translate "heaps" it says (in my language) mountain of waste/garbage... I really hope the translation program fails here or else I want a serious talk with you... Hahahahahaha...
@Meissie35 Oh my dear, I must be very careful with what I comment in future. I wish to tell you how wonderful "In a big way" you are! Best wishes always
Awesome effects Richard. I especially like the tape like thing at 1:13
I just checked Wiki and the Octopus card has been in use since 1997 (very impressive). When you put in the money with the card, was that because your card was low/empty? Did you then top up your card and pay for the ticket from your card?
@Laoch111 Ray, yea the tape thingy is from iMovie on the iMac, I use both iMac and Magix on a PC. The contact systems are cool - I just wish the Myki system in Melbourne would get with it and enable purchases from other vendors.
In this video my card was in debit so I needed to top it up so I could use the MTR (Train network) to get home. If you have money on the Octopus card you can travel anywhere - even it China.
I haven't been to HK in > 20 years, I am curious how the change from British to Chinese rule has changed the place, will have to get back to see for myself. I use an ANZ travel card - works just like a prepaid credit card - only place I had trouble with it was in Ireland because all their cards are chipped.
@StylidiumLane Oh Sammi it's a great place ... this was my first visit so I don't know how it has changed. Yea regarding the Travel Card, we used a Commonwealth bank card and it allowed us to make purchases in Hong Kong Dollars via the debit card. I did have to use cash to top up the Octopus card (Minimum of $50 HK)
The Octopus card really looks cool. We don't have anything like that here..only credit cards and cards for the subway. Where those Elephants real? really well put together Richard. Al
@detkicker Mike, great to have you comment on my video, I had a great time taking to you today. I can't wait to catch up with you again. Blessings to ya!

@EyepopTheSailorMan It should be good when every one is using the Myki. I find it annoying when metcard users hold you up ;{

@Scyeth I'm inclined to believe the Myki is a working system that you are not giving a good chance to forfill its purpose.

I just wish they would allow us to use the cards to do other purchases ;) Thanks for watching Phil
