This was a Sunday morning joy. Jump on the Harley and head to Ponte Vedre. I have many great memories of Wards Landing. You never knew who was going to :plug in".
I first saw Derek Trucks play in about 1991-92, a a place called Wards Landing, Palm valley (Jax., FL) I believe he was about 12 years. He was so good then it was scary. Look at him now, an awesome talent, and Duane reincarnated!!!!
@LibbyLaMano Damn! Is was stationed in Jax but was at sea when Derek was playing Ward's Landing. Some local friends told me about it when we got back and I kept going out there but never saw the lad. They had a hell of a house band though didn't they?
I first heard Duane in '72. Whatta talent. He checked out way too early. Derek is definitely channeling his spirit to us.....and has taken Duane's slide guitar magic far beyond where he left off. (perhaps Derek sold his soul at the crossroads). Please stay off of motorcycles, Derek.
Hats off to Dickie for that gesture. Derek was something else at 14. He's now redefiniing guitar-playing IMHO. His use of Asian influences in his music has been a personal revelation to me. I think the eastern flavours in his style will be too much for many players to resist. I believe he is a true world musician and I'm sure his influence will grow. Once heard, never forgotten. Good on yer, Derek, and thank you.
John Kruk is a cheating fuck. He lifted Ron Gant's leg off the bag. The video evidence is there plain as day. Without that out, you have a whole different series.
My dad was the first to jam with the Allman brothers, standing with Duane and playing in the sixties. Dickey replaced Dad in the band which later became known as ABB. Hey, my grandmother taught Gregg the basics on the piano, at home! Since the late sixties, when Dickey came into focus, noone could stand to be around him unless he was ripped. Toterola, you' ve made a good point, and so clearly! You should get ripped.
After helping to keep the ABB together during 30 years of Greg being a drunk fuck-up and a heroin addict, exactly how did Dickie "deserve" to be fired?
There's nobody more vengeful than a reformed drunk!
the kid is Derek Trucks, the drummers Butch Trucks nephew (his brothers kid). Now Derek is married to Susan Tedeschi (sp?) I've seen him with ABB 3 or 4 times, his playing blows me away!!!
Now this is how you like to see music performed!!! Imagine how Derek must have felt when Dickey takes his hat off to him! Don't ya just love to watch these guys play?! And the tradition carries on...

I cant help but think, that when Dickie took his hat and put it to his heart, it was because Derek's playing reminded him of Duane.

Little did Dickey know that about 10 or 12 years later Derek would replace him in the band!

False man, Derek actually replaced Jack Pearson. Live at The Great Woods has a Derek - Dickey line up

I'm a DT fan but had no idea he was jamming with the AB at such a young age. What a star.

But it wasn't just Gregg who gave Dickie the Boot. The actual "straw that broke the camels back" occured between Dickie and Butch.
