    some like Justin.Such is life.

I saw Kurt Elling live, twice. An incredible talent with imagination and daring. As far as who is "best"I grew out of comparing and just enjoy each artist for his or her contribution. It's all jazz!

  • gotta love musicians faces 5:45

  • @Andytba in a land fill along with all the other garbage...in Jersey!!!!

  • @Andytba I would like to know that too! He is shining on that stage!

  • EXTRA SUPER AMAZIN' UNBELIEVABLE IRREPEATABLE JUST NO COMENTS MORE ! ! ! ! !

  • drum got groove with that solo and even played some parts elling was singing lol

  • I taught Kurt Elling how to sing in choir in high school. Well, OK, I SAT next to him in choir. same thing.

  • Thank you cyberjaz for posting this great artist, who puts himself out there at every show he does (performs), he leaves it all out there on the stage, and appears most gracious to the musicians, who help make his shows possible. I will be looking for him to perform in LA. Thank you again.

  • I just want to respond to perezbermuda. WELL SAID. I swear that American Idol is making Americans tone deaf. Elling is not only a great artist, but a great entertainer.

  • he changed some of the lyrics and sucks ass.

  • Was so glad to hear today that he's coming to the Annenberg Center here in Philadelphia come April 2012. Just purchased my tickets a few minutes ago.

  • Saw him live at Birdland NY, too, this past weekend and was so happy that he started with this - it was an amazing evening!

  • I heard him sing this song at Birdland in New York this past weekend his voice literally brought tears to my eyes. Such a talent

  • Ive probably watched this about 1000000000000000 times

  • @mrashershow Ive seen it more and sang with him more :P

  • Gold!

  • Is that an actual language or just some random rambing?

  • @xavierian218 It's called scatting. It's a form of "jazz singing"

  • THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD

  • My x showed me Kurt about 4 years ago and i've been addicted ever sense.

  • One of the most amazing versions of this song. Kurt Elling simply rules! What a voice, what a performance, and a damn amazing drums solo! Damn, this one moves me from the inside.

  • Am I understanding this right? Casey Abrams was a contestant on American Idol? Oh I get it..the point is to get me to listen Casey Abrams right? Alright I'll bite.

  • LOL my Girlfriend(at the time) saw him on PBS and STILL thought he was Black.

  • No fuckin thanks for a old singer he sings like a fuckin slut Natt king cole is the best take your fuckin loopy prostitute voice which is flawed and gtfo bitch.

  • @greenbastard50 Your channelname suits you.

  • @adondebass and thats a bad thing?

  • honestly, the first time i listened to him, i thought he was a black guy. lol no joke. He has a wonderful voice.

  • @BrokenTHGurl08 i thought the same thing. he's prob the best male jazz singer these last ten or so years. he sounds soulful and full of feeling and nuance. we thought he was black because he's got flavor.

  • I love scat, but when singers starts to do too much "deetle-doo-leetle" I start thinking about Jack Black.

  • @adondebass scat? are you sure about that.

  • @EPICPokerTV4 The type of singing he does in the middle with nonsense words is called "scat" singing, believe it or not. :)

  • @henrietta300 lol, iknow but.. nvm

  • @EPICPokerTV4 mind out of the gutter

  • @adondebass i know wat your talking abt lmao. they are both great musicians :)

  • This is everything a live performance should be- just perfect.

  • Oh Yess....HELL YEAH!!!

  • I love it, this is MUSIC!!!! :)

  • I'm wondering why anyone would hit the dislike button on this rendition? Great job Kurt on this song. You did justice to it. My opinion

  • Casey did alright but come on Kurt Elling is the Shit. @ pereznbermuda are you deaf? Granted this performance could be better but its a jazz song performed by a symphony. You want to hear about working with symphonies? Go read Frank Zappa's Biography. I bet you get Kurt with a sextet or septet and it will blow the socks off anything that comes out of that crap tv show (yes I know, my bias is showing, but I don't care)

  • @LesterBricks sorry guys, heard it again (with my hearing aid this time! LOL) and i just hate Kurt's version. Nothing i can do about it, wish i could like it but can't. Love his voice but just not his rendition. And yet, Casey Abrams is a better version in my opinion, it captures the essence of the song and love his inventive phrasing. Different taste for different people, that's what makes the world go round!

  • @perezbermuda No. Fuck you.

  • what is the name of the drummer?

  • I stumbled into this a couple of years ago while researching Nat King Cole songs, and whilst Nat will always remain untouchable, Kurt Elling singing this changed how I thought about vocal performances, having never really been exposed to Jazz singing of any quality. I must have played this performance hundreds of times and it's one of my favorite - Kurt Elling is a massive talent whom I have never been fortunate enough to be within travelling distance of. A genuine master. Thanks, Kurt.

  • This is amazing.

  • 1:15-1:30 (:

  • Comment removed

  • There's bit of it that i REALLY like but overall this is waaaay to affected and disjointed, so verdict is not a great version. Although the second part after 2:30 is far superior as the first part. Casey Abrams does a far better job, he's the guy to watch, he brings this song to another level.

  • @perezbermuda Casey Abrams? Talk about affected! Listen to the way he murders the end of each line with that scratchy "ah." If anyone deserves the gold medal for this song, it should be the original: Nat King Cole.

  • @perezbermuda: Kurt Elling is considered to be the best living male jazz singer in the world and yet you've said you prefer the version of an American Idol contestant? A jazz singer uses their voice like it's a musical instrument, interpreting pieces of music in new improvisational ways. It's fine to not like jazz if that's your preference. But there's surely no comparison in quality between this and some young kid who's entered a TV talent contest.

  • @Aviva2121 Don't you think it is wrong to impose your subjective meaning on others?

  • @PoliticsandPower: I think it's wrong to express an opinion that can't be backed up by facts and a logical argument. Please visit Kurt Elling's website to see the number of accolades he's won regarding his status as being the best living male jazz singer. Unless you're disagreeing with my definition of what a jazz singer is? If so then why not offer an alternative definition, rather than just be judgemental.

  • @perezbermuda bwahahaha funny joke man. i mean, you're entitled to like the lesser version i guess, but come on man. Kurt is a once in a century musical phenomenon. Kobie Watkins journeys to a completely different universe in that solo. Jeez man, the whole Sydney Symphony Orchestra accompanied these guys, and you mean to tell me that some guy who lost American Idol plays a better version? That is truly a funny joke.

  • @beetleboy2 Just like a drizzlin shit phenom!

  • @beetleboy2 Dude, chill. This version, Cole's version, and Casey Abrams versions are my fav. I just really like this song to have sparse instruments and a creepy presence. But this version is badass too.

  • @perezbermuda Casey Abrams should just play bass because he sings off key!and his version is the worst i have ever heard

    1

  • Um apalavra do "Caralhooooooooooooooooo"...

  • wonderful

  • oh god i needed this..

  • Un 10!

  • He IS a sax player!!

  • He plays with upper structurers like a sax player! amazing!!

Felicidades.

  • The Husband of my least favorite aunt led me to Kurt Elling. He told me that he is very good with his vocal range and stuff.

I believe Kurt Elling is indeed very good. Very, VERY good.

  • @Jmjager1 Guess she's gone up in the list of favorite Aunts now!!

  • Superbe version!! quelle voix!

  • why the hell do they combine classical orchestras with jazz performers? the both genres have nothing to compare between

  • @askadetra Gershwin.....

  • @fluidjazz what about him?

  • @askadetra ''Your Honour I have nothing further to add.......''

  • @fluidjazz ok

  • ouah !!!! j'adore !

  • My singing teacher sent me here.

    Brilliant.

  • Jag älskar det här klippet. Helt underbart fantastiskt bra.

  • Oh, Kurt!

  • The "classical musicians" are making sure they back this tune up properly, AND, most classical musicians LOVE jazz., and were probably eager to have some input in this classic jazz piece!

  • @phoebecatgirl I heavily agree, professional musicians probably understand this piece much better and appreciate it on a whole different level than regular guys

  • one of the most amazing performances i've ever seen!

  • La mejor versión que he escuchado de momento...espeluznante.

  • @gloria12347 Tienes toda la razón, comparto contigo lo que sientes

  • Check out the stoned faces behind him while he's singing.

  • god dam it i love that drummer. look at his face after his solo. complete satisfaction after feeling the groove. NOW THATS A SOLO

    0rG4zM

  • For the ones who think that classical musicians are unimpressed, check out the orchestra´s conductor (left of the screen) from 5:13 onwards, he even grabs his head in disbelief!!! Good music is good music, regardless of genre!! BTW this is not good it is just out of this world.

  • I am sooooo in love with this guy! I just discovered him and am so bummed that he is coming to the West anythime soon. Iw ould follow him anywhere..... SIGH.....

  • I want to marry the drummer.

  • ninja drummer at 5:27 - i must have watched this two dozen times and this is the first i've noticed him fixing the snare.

  • I regret so much not attending to his concert when he came to Portugal... his vocals are so passionate, so meaningful! I keep getting blown away by this amazing artist!

  • You can see how much he enjoys singing just by the look on his face. This man is too smooth

  • my local HMV store has just ONE Kurt Elling cd on its shelves! SHAME ON YOU HMV

  • @1902barb , , Yep, betcha can find Justin Bieber by the bucketload at all the stores though. Says it al I'm afraid - pointless serving caviar to pigs, I guess . .

  • KURT ELLING IS AMAZING!!!!

  • just...oh...my...god.

  • How can you decide to pull the "unlike" button ? seriously ! even if it's not your type of music HOW could anybody truely dislike it ????

(gonna see him live in 10 days hiiiiiiiiiiiii)

  • Man!!! He was going for that last high note at the end and the conductor just left him with his &*%# hanging out by cutting off the group right when he hit the note! I swear I saw Kurt give a millisecond dirty look at the very last few frames of this clip.

Awesome performance though. That kicked ass.

  • I wanna slap every last one of them! They all SICK!

  • Ya - the drummer is kicking it in a cool way - not looking like he is trying but ripping it up in an off-hand natural way (was at this concert and have seen Kurt about 5 times in sydney - incl at the Basement - more intimate) - never ceases to impress. Getting a bit too cool for school - but when you are that money - why not.

  • Epic rendition but I can't help but giggle at the bidibidablebdidible bits

  • If this is the MUSIC, what is Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jam??

  • 27 people think they can do this better apparently...

  • saw mr.elling last night in los angeles(catalina bar and grill) ..OFF THE F _ _ _ EN HOOK!!!!!!!!

  • @jazzperson55 The Catalina Jazz Club is one hell of a venue. They always have GREAT groups playing there. I saw the North Texas One O' Clock Lab Band there, they blew my mind.

  • WOW! I LOVE this guy. Kurt is SICK with the vocals. Just SICK! The music is on point, too! Now THIS is what you call REAL music.

  • That note at 1:25, man...It give me chills EVERY time I listen to this.

  • @Spinzett same here!

  • This man is a flipping genius

  • Who are the idiots clicking "dislike"????

  • This rendition of Nature Boy fucking rocks! The drummer is stupid good, Lawrence Hobgood on piano is the shizzle, I even like the double bass playing behind Kurt, all in all amazing start to stop. Another amazing rendition from Kurt is my foolish heart, very original in it's interpretation. 5 stars.

  • Comment removed

  • Did @miko7777777 really say "Lawrence Hobgood on piano is the shizzle"?

  • @gregoryburrows the shizzle means tres good.

  • @miko7777777 i had the pleasure to see kurt at sydney opera house and 5 stars is not enough

  • Bravo!!! Can't get enough..

  • One of my inspirations

  • This is a very personal and inspiring interpretation. I think everyone can get "what he needs" from it.. Very special thanks Kurt..

  • yeahhh jazz it up!!

  • Can't stop watching it just for that drummer he's OFF THE CHAIN!

    /bow

  • quite good, but when you've heard bobby mcferrin, nothing really touches you that much anymore...

  • @TheDukecalvin Poppycock. I LOVE Bobby McFerrin, and Kurt Elling still amazes me. Maybe you've never heard Kurt sing My Foolish Heart. Stellar masterpiece. Actually, I just watched the video again, and I posted that I'd love to see Elling and McFerrin work together. Anyways, you're inventing a competition that doesn't exist. Two different musicians with two different styles. Why make needless favorites? Just enjoy them both.

  • make love with the drum kit!! :) respect!!!

  • Why does everyone laugh after he says "Before the second band comes on!" I have re winded that part countless times!

  • @gcohen96 Sorry about this, but humor can't be learned.

  • The lyric changes, although sort of minor, really annoyed me. This is one of the few songs that no matter how hard I look I have yet to find a cover that I enjoy.

  • cant. get. enough. of. this.

  • Like me first time. Heard Kurt Elling on the radio this morning ... great!!

  • The BEST VOCALISE!!!

  • Estou sem palavras, simplesmente de arrepiar a alma.

  • does any one knows what is the name of the drummer ?

  • @Wafflepirates

    Kobie Watkins

  • @ruhaidai thank you very very much :D

  • @Wafflepirates

    tommy Watkins is the drummer.

  • @riomel722 thank you very much :)

  • Amazing drummer

  • Recommended by a friend, I looked Mr. Elling up at the Internet. This is my first time seeing and hearing this gentleman. (Nature Boy is a song my mom sang to me over 60 years ago. I'm not crazy for that odd, mouth thing he does during the slower tempo. It looks too contrived, especially since I didn't see happen when singing he's up tempo and doing skat! (And his scat is super!!)

  • njoyed this great movie in web movie tube

  • Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Sensacional! Wonderfull!

  • drummer..................

  • Most of the classical musicians look a bit snobby and unimpressed...they probably don't understand. :P

  • @enakrium They're probably just bored. I'm sure they must've heard this song a gajillian times during rehearsal.
