  • I liked the multiplayer because it was kind of like Halo.

  • I actually liked the ground missions. This is a pretty good game...

  • @gcuber Totally agree

  • Noticed how this guyalways gives bad reviews

  • all u care about is the flying missions, shut up, the ground missions are fun

  • @samsin519 well thats what starfox is famous for

  • @samsin519 Agree

  • Are there any crazy secrets in this game like the asteroid in the SNES Star Fox?

  • on super nintendo, who is the white girl dog on starfox 2?

  • @RareReviewz Nobody really knows since the game was never released. It's pretty sad.

  • In all of the reviews I've seen by this reviewer, he seems to hate changes in franchises.

  • you are wrong in so many ways its the gamecube is the new generation it will never be like the N64 no matter how much you want it ro be, Star Fox Assault is a great game and i don't think you should trash it if YOUR NOT GOOD AT THE GAME!

  • i dont know about you guys but ive had every singal starfox game but i think Starfox Assault was my all time favorite game

  • dislikers simply don't understand the sheer grandeur and sophistication of the original (snes) star fox..

  • i actually think this game is good and the multiplayer is fun as hell with 4 ppl

  • Maybe they can redeem it with a remake on the 3ds

  • Here's hoping Retro Studios does a phenomenal job making a new Starfox. If you've read the news at IGN the past week, it's pretty much confirmed they're gonna be a part of a new Starfox game. Can't wait!!

  • I didnt mind this game but i liked starfox adventures a lot more

  • Like every other game out there. Games have to evolve. Assault wasnt as dull as people made it sound like. Sure it was hyped up since supposedly the creator of Ace Combat 2 was doing Assault. But I can see Starfox being more of the All range mode type of game for here on out. Like the never released Starfox 2. Assault isn't bad. It is a matter of preference. Hopefully there is one for the Wii U.

  • I like the groundmissions in Assault, but I absolutely LOVE StarFox Adventures <3

  • lol you said cock

  • I dont get why ppl hate the ground missions?? when I was a little kid I loved everything about the game. I loved the controls, I loved the ground missions and I loved the vehicles. =/

  • @D3f3ns3l3ss The ground missions suck because they are incredibly dull with objectives like "find and destroy all of the things", the map system sucks which makes finding things difficult, they often have maze-like areas to explore which is a pain because you control like a tank, and they easily make up the majority of the game as far as both amount and playtime is concerned.

The review did a fantastic job of explaining all this, you just aren't listening.

  • @321cheeseman Map system sucks? It works like a normal radar should. And you can change the radar into a full-fledged map by pressing the d-pad.

Honeslty, fanboys need to take off their nostalgia goggles. The air missions are fun but can get really boring if that's ALL you had to to do. Adding ground missions was a great touch. And the 2 player mode is very fun.

  • @fmabfma I'm perfectly fine with the concept of adding ground missions for more variety. My ONLY problems with them are with the piss poor implementation, and the fact that it's THE MAJORITY of the game. The ground missions just aren't fun, for the reasons I have already listed.

Look at Sin & Punishment. If the ground missions had been ANYTHING like that, I would have absolutely no complaints. Hell, even the ground-based combat in Star Fox 2 was far better than in Assault.

  • @321cheeseman The map system is fine as is. One can easily find the targets they're looking for. The only time it controls like a tank is when you're in the landmaster (which IS a tank). There really are no problems with the third-person shooter stages especially when there are a variety of guns available.

The only gripe I had with the game was that it was a bit short. And Mission 10 in Gold level is near impossible. But that's about it.

  • @fmabfma No, you always control like a tank. Maybe you used a different control setting that makes it so you don't control like a tank while on-foot, but if there is such a setting, I don't remember it.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I found the ground missions to be incredibly boring and unfun, and the majority of people seem to agree with that assessment. I mean, It's not like I WANTED to dislike the ground missions. I didn't go into them hating them. I gave them a fair chance.

  • @D3f3ns3l3ss I have no idea why the heck ppl hate ground missions - I thought it was a good idea to keep the series fresh. Honestly, it's not that bad; ppl complain about controls, but I got to used to them with the snap of my fingers. There's 4 full length Arwing missions, plus in almost all on-foot, there's a portion to use an Arwing. Gimme a break ppl.

  • Now If only JonTron would review this game....

  • @RocketRaccoon99 and Nuts and Bolts...

  • no offence, but assault is one of my favourites.

  • they replaced peppy cause 80 people were annoyed to suicide by being told to do barrel rolls

  • While I agree about the slightly less-than-stellar ground missions, not ONCE did you talk about the story, or the music! Certainly, the ground missions do leave the player longing for the inevitably following space mission, the story drives this game, and the beautifully orchestrated soundtrack makes even the ground missions more enjoyable.

I'm sorry, but this review is fail.

  • @NGrevolutionary A review does not have to cover every element of a game. A review IS NOT a summary.

This review is perfect, even if you don't agree with it, because it does EXACTLY what a review is supposed to do: It tells you whether or not the reviewer liked the game, and why or why not.

  • @321cheeseman A review may not have to cover every aspect of a game, but a GOOD review should. The purpose of a video game review is, indeed, to give your opinion of it, but when doing so, you should take into account every aspect of a game that could possibly be of importance to someone in your audience. That's the purpose of a review; to give you every possible reason as to why you should, or shouldn't, play a game. This review is not perfect, because it fails to do the above.

  • @321cheeseman Basically, in your opinion, CGRundertow could have posted this review & said nothing but "I hate this game because it's Star Fox! I HATE Star Fox!!" and it would have been "perfect"? I'm sorry, but your logic is faulty. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. :)

  • @NGrevolutionary No, that would be a bad review because it doesn't give VALID reasons for the reviewer's opinion.

You are deliberately misrepresenting my opinion by taking it to an absurd extreme. If I wanted, I could do the same thing with your opinion.

"In your opinion, CGRundertow could have painstakingly reviewed EVERY line of dialogue, critiqued EVERY enemy, and mentioned EVERY graphical effect, and it would have been 'perfect'? I'm sorry, but your logic is faulty."

  • did you fail to look at the game? the ground mission offer more variety than the rail missions which are cool but the ground play just fine, i have a feeling that you fell to star fox syndrome*

*only want to see the old and compare instead of looking at the new and accepting it

this is personally my favorite star fox game.

  • i enjoyed the ground base missions because it was something differrent the only thing wrong with them was the clunky controls. i think that they should have just added more flight missions instead of removing the on foot missions

  • I wish the on foot missions were absent... I did enjoy them but.. starfox captured my by space combat. I don't want a third person shooter.

  • I'm just going to say this: These reviews reek of rose tinted nostalgia for Star Fox 64. 64 was a great game, but in my opinion, it doesn't quite deserve the "godly" pedestal that some have put the game on.

    I digress however.

  • i kinda like this game

  • I'd been dying to be on foot in Star Fox since 64's multiplayer, and I was much more than impressed with this game.

  • i played this a little:

space level :D this is awesome!

    ground: aww.'—'

  • This game is awesome and like the ground levels

  • laser beams grazed my cockpit...

  • I had recently just beaten this game!(about a half-hour ago) it's really great and has everything in it that a starfox fan could ask for. even a multiplayer mode that has levels from nearly every stage in the game! I love and recommend it.

  • This was the last game Nintendo and Rare made together after this game Rare went to Microsoft. Rare + Microsoft = EPIC FAIL.

  • @shadowdreamcast rare didn't make this namco did ur thinking of adventures

  • oh and you suck at this game. it obvious when you look at the video. all you do is use homing lasers and on ground you cant hide behind a simple block.

  • Horrible review. FOX FINALLY GETS TO LEAVE THE SHIP! WITH GUNS!!!!!!!!!!! it explained to me why he had a laser gun in SSB and why he was soo fast. it brought back the n64 and snes feel of the game, as well as improve on its last failure. if your going to do a review, do it right. peace.

  • YOU SUCK AT REVIEWING STAR FOX GAMES THIS WAS SECOND BEST AND THE GROUND LEVELS WERE MY FAVORITE

  • I absolutely do not agree with this review. Sure, its a shock when Fox first steps outside hsi arwing in the first on foot mission, but the on foot missions are a necessary change of pace. The only thing i didnt really like about the ground missions is how dumb the AI was, which made stealth an obsolete concept. But frankly i enjoy usig any character who spends most of hsi game sittign on hsi butt, jump out and prove his mettle in person. Dont let your nostalgia tint your specs.

  • It seems like a lot of flight shooters do this for some mysterious reason (see: rogue squadron 3). I don't know why they keep trying to shoehorn in ground missions when all we really want are great air/space missions.

  • Hey I love this game!

I am biased because I played this with my friend all the time when I was like 7 but still I loved the game the graphics were amazing I liked the controls a lot, and the on foot missions I liked.

I don't know if it still holds up but I love the game

  • its all down hill from the first mission

  • Oh man, the shit I would give to play games like these even today, classics all the way!

  • this game is only for hardcore star fox fans like me!

  • @SuperDominator45 First Star Fox game i ever played and thanks to it im a hardcore sf fan

  • Does the ground scenery remind anyone else of Mechassault?

  • I did enjoy this game but completly agree, i'd luv if all levels were flight levels, becuz they were the best part, and the music was excellent

  • I disagree, this game is bad but the series does need diversity. Would anyone play 50 dollars for a new star fox on a gamecube or wii level system. They need to look at shooters, and what they can take, and expand on the experience. At the same time, a game where jet pilots can jump off and fight might be one way to go(reminds me of swat cats). problem was namco wasn't a programming genius or even all that good. Maybe capcom would have been a better choice.

  • I liked running around on the ground when I was little and felt trapped in plan when in it too long lol

  • この子操作ナイス!

  • I stopped hoping for a new Star Fox game a while ago. Has there been another full space shooter version since 64?

  • @Optics233 The only title which sort of fits the bill is the Star Fox game for DS. All of it technically is played as a space shooter, but it's actually a mediocre and tedious strategy game where you plot out the movements of your ships and then encounter enemies in battles. The battles are not on rails, however, and frequently deteriorate into random chaos as you move around in circles shooting randomly at enemies attacking from every direction, and there's little actual level design.

  • @EkajTheSwordsman That's a shame. Hopefully one day Nintendo will smarten up and realize sometimes change can be a bad thing.

  • what happened to these games why does the wii not have one?

  • a a a aí love this game!

  • I actually liked the ground missions :( wouldn't you all agree?

  • i love assult & adventures no matter what

  • star fox adventures i thought was great.

  • @SillyHatVideos it is in my opinion i think adventures is more fun than assault and 64 combined!!

  • Main issue with StarFox: Assault: too slow and annoying love story

  • It seems like alot of games i like get really bad scores in reviews.

  • @BurritoMan64 I feel the same....it really sucks when you got a game and everyone is bashing it.

  • StarFox64D!

  • for the first time ever i was playing a star fox game that felt like a star fox game

YOU ARE THE DUMBEST TWIT EVER!!! ITS BLOOMIN CALLED STAR FOX!!!

  • Here's what Namco was thinking when they decided to make Starfox Assault:

    Star Fox apartment

Boss: You know what?! Everybody loved Star Fox Adventures so much, we should make a new Star Fox game with very few of those stupid, mediocre flight missions and throw in more of those fast-paced awesomely amazing graphics! That'll get em' coming in barrel rolls to stores!

    People: Yes, yes. Good idea.

Guy with common sense: What? NOBODY liked starfox adventures!

    :You're fired.

  • @Karatenerd5 and that's why we dont have StarFox for the Wii and Command was poopie

  • OMG... normally i can finish these reviews but fuck dood you sound like a whiny fanboy and it don't belong in a review.

  • Slippys voice sucks even more. Thumbs up if the retro voice is better ^_^

  • Slippy: Uh oh.. Im in trouble!

    Fox shoots

Slippy: Thanks Fox i though i had a boner

Falco: You havent changed a bit frog boy ;D

  • Do a barrelroll...

  • Assault is the best Starfox game in exsistance! It blows away every Starfox game! Its even better then 64!

  • Slippys voice sounds even more retarded there

  • adventures was better....in many ways

  • cn it be played on the wii

  • @mtholyoke87 Yes it can. You need a Gamecube controller and a Gamecube memory card though.

  • The foot missions weren't that bad when you think about it. Plus, switch the controls to dual stick and the game is a whole lot better.

  • @ChrisTheFields Exactly, I wonder how many people missed out on this fact. Because that is how I played Assault on-foot.

  • Star fox Assault is the Sonic Unleashed of the Star Fox franchise:

    Flight Missions= Day Levels

    Ground Missions= Werehog levels

Some people like the Ground/ Werehog levels but the majority wanted more Flight/Day levels. Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 saved the Sonic franchise, now we need a NEW Star Fox title to save the franchise.

  • @scyther206 According to the fans, no it won't. The Sonic fanbase doesn't think Colors saved Sonic and the Star Fox fans (Nintendo fanbase) will think the same).

  • @nintendoboy17 Yeah well the Sonic fanbase doesn't know what they want. All they care about is Sonic's eye color.

  • @scyther206 The Nintendo fanbase has been the same way.

  • @nintendoboy17 True

Metroid: Samus isn't supposed to have a character!

Legend of Zelda: Link is left-handed!

  • @scyther206

"Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 saved the Sonic franchise"

    hahahaha

  • @scyther206 Star Fox 3D.

  • @techn0FTW f^$% starfox 3d their needs tob a whole new starfox

  • @scyther206 i agree with your philosphy... but sonic 4 didnt save anything, neither did colors. generations did.

  • @scyther206 exactly, although i didnt really mind ground and day missions

  • @scyther206 The best thing about Assault is the multiplayer modes !!! and the variety of options you have for multiplayer compared to 64 .

  • uh...Ground Missions are NOWHERE near as bad as the Werehog levels.

  • @scyther206 yeah its the one that fanboys want to complain about to waste time

  • haha it sound slike it took him forever to come up with his heavy discriptve intro. He should really write erotic books

  • i dint like this reveiwing guy, i think he hats starfox, adventures was the best starfox, then lylat wars, assulst wasnt that good, but shooting on foot was fun in a arcadey

    way

  • @BLUEKEYCARD how old are you, 14? the best game in the whole series is Starfox for the SNES.

  • I actually liked the ground missions alongside the air missions (with the exception of the Landmaster) and multiplayer was as addictive to ne as Goldeneye was to many other people. This game is too underrated!

  • Maybe I'm crazy... But I loved Starfox adventuress

  • @IDSTARTAREVOLUTION2 you're definitely not crazy

  • @42crazyguy I'm glad...a lot of people really don't like that game.

  • LOL lazerbeams grazed my "COCK"pits

  • Yeah Starfox Assault was a cock tease

  • tedious? wut the hell r u calling tedious? i think we're doomed from the start bcuz of u asshole! this is the best game ever made, and the ground missions are kick ass! If ya think the game sucks, get urself some cocaine and you're all set

  • Your bad at thius game. you can't shoot for crap, your always running into things, and your health is always low(cause your bad).Belevie it or not im not trying to be mean but i dissage COMpletely with your thoughts....

  • I respect this review but I still love Assault. It's one of my favorite gamecube games still :D. The medals are super addicting. Great review though even if I don't necessarily agree with it :)

  • I agree on the others but Y0U are wrong on this one I like the ground missions as much as the flight missions

  • I agree on the others but Y0U are wrong on this one I like the ground missions as much as the flight missions so fudge you

  • YOU SUCK! this game was awesome.

  • Eh. I thought it was okay. Nice nostalgic throwback. I must admit though, the ground missions were pretty tedious, but they weren't THAT bad.

  • Comment removed

  • Christ his voice annoys me

  • Idk y nintendo banned this and put it on a good series then the next thing you know it would turn out to be a pile of horse shit

  • And other thing some games are failing cause of the fans being impatient I mean sonic 2006 would have so much better if sega didn't release the damn game early now if they realesed it in 2007 or 2008 it would have been so much better alot of games were banned in the n64 era like earthbound 64 dinosaur land and kirbys wing adventure or idk wtf it's called

  • Here's the thing it's good to listen to some fans yet it's bad because if you listen to your fans too much like treyarch did to black ops you'd get a shit load of updates then again if the fans think if they should this or that it would turn out to be one of the most best games in mankind but then company's are trying to do that so far nintendo is up there sega not so hot and microsoft and Sony I guess they fine

  • at-least in this game you get decent ground missions in star wars rebel strike you get poorly designed ground missions and poorly designed flight missions but both games have awesome multiplayer

  • i swear i am eager to play this game but every one is treating it like sonic unleashed the werhog was fun in its own way and it was introducing hack and slash to a younger audiance same with this game they added the tps to it and every one hates it i think that looks fun and it could of helped intrudice third person shooters to a younger audiance

  • @MARI06OO I'd say give Star Fox Assault a shot. I really like the game.

  • this game is so frekin asome cuz its mutiplayer

  • this game is so frekin asome

  • Why is your voice so soft? It's bringing me down.

DON'T BRING ME DOWN.... FLOOSH! (Those aren't the lyrics)

  • I hate the music at the beginning.

  • @bowserjrfan123 That's good. Too bad they don't listen to fans...

  • i enjoyed this game a bit more than adventure

  • i think this game was decent grand i do agree i prefer more space missions than land but was an intresting twist like when rare made starfox adventures that was different but equally addicting this game nned a few more bugs fixed but out of a 1 to 10 i give it my self 7.5 good game but could be so much better

  • I think this game's kind of underrated. Sure the on land missions have some stiff controls but it's still a fun game.

And yes, Nintendo should make a new Starfox game, not just a remake of the best in the series.

  • The thing is, if Assault had been made to be all rail shooting missions, people would be bitching about it being a rehash of 64.

  • @WeavileTheWhacker Not me.

  • @WeavileTheWhacker I thought that too. At least the game is trying to be fresh.

  • @WeavileTheWhacker

And the sad thing was, that rehash would've STILL been better than what it is now; face it, unless they actually fixed and made the Piloting missions more suitably controllable, it would've stood out on its own, but when the Arwing missions are lacking, (with 4 not even using them unless it's optional or the END of the level), the A.I. of allies is even worse, and most missions require a higher difficulty to have fun, you have an average game, at best.

  • @WeavileTheWhacker i wouldnt cuz i love the 64 version and i hope they make a true sequal.

  • Comment removed

  • the ground missions look like earth defense force

  • i love both forms of the missions. the "on foot" missions would have sucked if you only had a blaster or ~ahem~ staff, but with a wide variaty of weopons and the awesome multiplayer mode, i love the game. i also think he should have noted that the second part of the last level is a flight mission.

  • Starfox assualt's ground and space missions were great but remember the gamecube disc is to small to have higher quality visuals especialy with the huge free roaming and on rail levels this is why I can excuse the bland visuals and low quality audio to.

graphics are decent and local multiplayer suprisingly is addictive, Assualt's multiplayer lets you free roam anywhere like in GTA 4 which is a good thing. I didn't enjoy SF64 multiplayer that much because your only in arwings n tanks.

  • Look...Fans want something new in games and then when there given it they complain. the company of the game respond and the fans hate it. Understand?

  • I don't care what you say, I love this game :)

  • i think its great that they put half the game on ground it seems very new somthing we dont see in most star fox games

  • Foxes were meant to fly!

  • The multiplayer is f***ing awesome! It sounded like he didn't give a damn about it!

  • idk y people bitch i rather engoyed the game a lot

  • u r wrong about the ground missions

  • I think the next Star Fox should try to be like Star Fox 64. Almost all on-rails, never out of a vehicle (and mostly the Arwing), a couple of all-range stages, and maybe a few new powerups. But I think Assault had the best multiplayer, it had a bunch of variety and options, so they should try to recapture that.

  • After watching CGR for almost a year now, I have really come to enjoy the other side of gaming beyond the markets of today (fps but I'm not complaining that those are terrible ether) while I was always not an exclusive fps player, this has made me look at the more lighter side of gaming that not many people enjoy now. One that isn't about k/d or boosting stats just to make yourself look pro (all it really did was make u look like a noob though) and is more about what games were designed for...

  • nerdgasm jk

  • This happens to be my most favorite game in the Star Fox series (and also the very first one I've ever played); I pity those who judge this great game so poorly.

  • I don't care if people say this game sucks, it is fun! In my opinion it's a hundred times better than Command.

  • The multiplayer on foot was really fun I was always fun, even if the story part on foot wasn't great.

  • Comment removed

  • I seriously don't think this game is as bad as all the critics say. Though single player DID feel a bit forced and short, it was still fun, mostly.

Really though, the multiplayer is the best part of this game IMO.

  • @Xevnest24 Not all critics said this game was bad. Gamespot liked it and they gave it a 7.3.

  • i loved this game and will do anything to get it back

  • I don't care what no one thinks. "This game kicked ass!" And it made Star Fox Adventures look like shit.

  • fuck you !
