  • thumphs up if you laugh when he said tu tu tu tu tu hahaha

  • an hour of constant 120 bmp drumming from a human drummer ? i bet theyl seize up and die rather than fluctuate haha

  • We'll wind this one forward... EPIC FACE!!!

  • G'donk g'donk g'donk.

  • Isn't that just plain DJing rather than mixing?

  • Seriously how do you have so much gear??? every vid has some sort of different gear! how do you afford this?

  • Best drop i've ever heard!

  • you make it look so easy :P

  • As always, good info. Thank you...how do i get a SHIRT? I'll hook you up with one of mine (DV8TION Productions, DJ GetRite)

  • kaDUNK kaDUNK kaDUNK all ova tha bloody place ^^

  • Great chop

  • You have a very understandable speaking.

  • djakinho, do you speak Enghish? ;)

  • @emersoundnb kk just a little xD

  • he did it so good i didnt even notice i had to rewind :O

  • sei un genio XD

  • This is a good technique, but if you wanna beat match rock. There are some rock remixes and re-drums out there from certain djs/remixers/&producers such as: Rock-It Scientists, and Discotech.

  • pause and hold left on the video to play snake

  • vote ellaskins for djmag top 100 djs

  • BOSCH THAT ROCK 2:32

  • I'm an amateur mixing electro music, but god I'd love to put some Killing in the name of in the middle :D

  • I dont want to sound like an old git (i am, im nearly 50 LOL) i dont much like that house music so play a lot of rock and 70'sdisco and find it near on impossible to beatmatch, so nine times outa ten i'll do what you just did then, glad im doing it right anyhoo.. Great couple of tracks there...

  • this is pretty much what I do for rock... do you do it harmonically?

  • Lol it was already here! :D

    Thanks!

  • this guy makes me want to be a DJ!

  • agree

  • Yeah! Me too... :P

But now I am thanks to him. Good luck! :-)

  • stupid comment perryboy

  • Fuck you he is the best youtube dj on earth, so shut the fuck up and look at yourself.

  • bosh...

  • i think i have it.

    thanks man

  • amazing! :o

  • do you have set ups all over the house?

I swear each video u do is in a different place lol

  • and very often with differet setups ^^

  • @HamburgerTrain11 i know one was in the kitchen then his living room and know his bloody bedroom

  • @HamburgerTrain11

he has like the whole numark series or something!

  • @HamburgerTrain11 I was just thinking this, he dj's his kids to sleep and dj's milk pouring music when he has cereal

  • well i have difficulty rather than mixing timiming of tracks but volume

how loud drums shuld be in comparison to guitar

how loud bass should be in comparison to guitar and drums

how loud the vocals shuld be above the music

  • the number of decks this guy has is ridiculous....love his tutorials

  • I like this guy but that was whack. I would have echoed out right on the vocal "girl theres a better life for me and you" small amount of echo (35-40 at beginning of lyric and ending with a full on 250 echo on the last two words "and you". But big props to this guy, have you noticed the change in his gear and such? Dude is coming up!!! How the hell do you say this dudes name? it looks like it should sound like alaskins or ella skins.

  • nice technique. Where can I find a great playlist that I can do a medley for a couple hours. I'm a hip hop /dance music dj just getting into ROCK.

  • I'm vice versa lol kind of difficult for me grew up listing to rock then went to heavier to metal, all my friends listened to it and now its just difficult because I was never really around it much for the most part. same thing with country, I like the older stuff but newer I dunno there's a few good songs or more.

  • if ur so good why dont you upload hundreds of videos ??

  • why should I ? everyone else seems to have beaten me to the punch. Are you a loyal fan or just a bitter soul?

  • what about J, or Jonathan?

  • J is a letter from the english alphabet and jonathan is a christian name. How elese may I be of service?

  • I like chopping back and forth, but I can do that fairly easy cuz I have Ableton. But like RealSysOp said, a 1 or 1/2 bar loop usually always works. You just need to throw effects on top for it to sound good. I construct keyed and voice layered sets prior anyway, so bangin the next one in I don't have to do too often.

  • Do you know where I can get or buy mixed rock sets for a party. I'm a dance/ hiphop dj getting into rock for parties

  • Sorry for the comment-mulitpost .. my firefox just crashed three times in a row :( ...

I deleted the other comments to tidy things up a little.

  • Hi, i just found this channel, love your vids, keep up the good work.

There is another quite simple Tip which I'm sure you already know, but i missed it in this vid...

When the temo of a track is not constant (rock or not) just let the first track fall into a loop at the point where you want to mix it. Usually the variation of tempo within the loop is small enough to be called constant.

    Greetings

  • wow that was quite a good "mix"

i hope ill never have to mix rock, but just in case, this was very helpful

  • man, u are incredible:O:O

  • i bloody hate choppers, but uhm... quite frankly, every rockband in the neighborhood works either with samples when recording, a drumcomputer, or they alter it in the studio...

  • ok now i get it! haha i was always trying tomix it just like u would w/ elecronic music and it sounded terrible! lol ok but just a question: dont u have to pick 2 songs roughly the same tempo? what about genre (metal, punk, classic rock, etc.)?

  • Well you should pick songs roughly the same tempo as always, unless you're doing a change of genre. Anyway, most modern rock songs are done in a studio with the drummer playing along to a click track, which means he will be almost exactly on the same BPM all the way through. Making it easier to beatmatch... keylock is awesome in this field too.

  • Denon! I Love my Dns 5000

  • You seem like a hell of a nice guy

  • I just can't seam to get enough of your tutorials. I really love how you teach. Keep doing your thing.

    Dj Jasso

  • thats easy i do the same thing when i start to play music!

  • if you own a mixer with a "fader start" function this is even easier!

  • That's so right, I agree with you, I thought the same and you just confirmed it and gave me more accurate informations.

    TG.

  • very very very useful tip !!!

now i have the idea to mix from techno/house to rock music :D

    very nice =)

  • ooh that was nice :O:D

  • Thanks for the tips :-)

  • 3:30 lol!!!!

Great vid, very entertaining. You should be a music teacher!

  • Take that Hoover!

  • good video!! but I would like to know how to mix POP, Just tell me please if it's the same than rock o if tou can put a video I will be grateful for you!!!

  • YUP A DJ IS AN ARTIST

  • an musician is considered person who has masterd or close enough mastered a instrument. therefore a DJ wouldnt be called a musician but an highly skilled "Artist" of music and the genre he has masterd. Now this is my opinion and i will explain why. A DJ needs to be creative and has to have a unique style, and most important he needs to master Music and on top of all that he must be able to close his eyes and still be able to beat match and mix with his equipment. So wuld u considr a DJ a Artist?

  • and a musician

  • I kind of agree, the majority of DJ's are artists, however a lot of DJ's that do mash-ups and FX remixes are in essence playing an instrument, they are using music theory to make their own arrangement, so there is an element of composition or musical involvement. But DJ'ing by just beatmatching and mixing songs in and out of each other is an rightly said an art!

  • a DJ is an artist

PS. learn when to use "an" you only use it before a vowel. i.e " Princepersia123 your an idiot" your trying to hard to sound smart....

  • lol

  • Hey, maybe English isn't his first language.

And also, when criticising someone's grammar, putting "your" when it should be "you're" and "to" when it should be "too" makes YOU look like a fool.

    I'm just saying...

BTW, great vid J, as usual.

  • is English your first language? Just hinting at your name...and if its not great job learning it :)

  • that was funny

  • bam!

    subscribed

  • fast-fading is also best way when you are changing genre so much that it will sound terrible no matter what you do. :) guess all the mobiles know what im talking about :p

  • o wait u actually did that.. haha nvm.. wow that was a really smooth mix.. nice

  • couldn't u just have the cross fader in the middle? and then while stopping the other song.. u start the next one.. so u dont have to beatmatch em...

    just a suggestion..

  • budunka dunka all over the bloody place

    hahahaha

  • Your house is full of dj decks !! I subscribed thanks for all your info

  • what decks are those?

  • not decks lol cdjs google it lol get some more info

  • i meant which cd decks are those? there not cdjs cos there pioneer and it sais denon on em. google it, get some more info

  • i love the way that you seem to have a different set of decks in every room of your house! lol another great video!

  • I think it was funny around about 2:50 to 2:52 hilarious

  • Y2 ROCK AND SYNCHRO

  • Great vid Jonathon. Guess I was doing it right all along...lol.

  • Why are some of you asking that type of question about DJs being Musicians, why not just ask questions that deals with the video. Great Vid DJ Tutor thanks for the info.

  • please make a tutorial of dance hall

  • oh yeah, that would be great!

  • I've got a Beringer BPM Counter. I'll do a video on it, but My RCA cables are playing up.

These are a good way of checking the number of beats figure. Cost about £30.00 / $60

  • LOL

  • LOL X 100! j

  • Nice shirt.

  • Good dj's use the song on a whole new level, trying to take only the good parts of the song and doing something different with them. Having two different but good parts of the music, like a nice heavy bassline of song nr 1 and then playing a sharp repeative sample of the next song is creating a new song.. I don't know if you can call it a musician but it's thinking about the music and creating something new. But not 'just playing a song that another person created'

  • how many turntables to you have?

and do you have one set up every 9-10 feet in your house?

every video your spinning on something new, and somewhere new

  • Do DJ's consider themselves to be musicians? Cus technically they are record player...players. They don't create they mix, they don't improvise they sample. How can they call themselves Musicians?

  • DJ's aren't musicians, it's as simple as playing other peoples music. The only people who come remotely close to being musicians are exceptionally skilled turntablists like Q-Bert etc;

  • well it depends Ricsic6... if ur very creative in ur mixes... like u have one beat playing then ur scratchin with another etc. then i suppose u can call em a musician.. in a way.. but if ur just playing tunes then ur more of a record player than a musician... a smart record player that knows the tunes people like :)

  • they love rock music in blackpool

  • far out jono how much gear do you have in ur house lol theres like a mixer in every room =D

  • one of the best ways to mix out of any form of music has been just droping an echo fading effect while the next into track fades in....

  • I do this a lot of the time lol

  • new headphones eh?!

    how you liking the pioneers?

  • ka donk ka donk ka donk ka donk ha ha quality sounds like mine tunes

  • ROFL @ your expressions. I laughed my ass off, great tutorial. Thank you! :)

  • Smooth, Mr. DjTutor.

  • shud try korn fuck that it mixies well

  • This advice is 100% on-the-nose. Way back when I first began trying to mix rock/non-house stuff, I started with Ultimix and Select Mix mixes (which are usually pop and rock tracks which come pre-mixed with intros and outros to mix with) to get more comfortable with playing out live. Once you practice enough, though, you won't need the remixes! It's a lot more fun without the intro/outro too, in my opinion.

  • Thanks for this video J :)

Really helpful, as i can't beatmatch properly at mobile discos! I'll try this out tonight.

  • haha gadonk.. gadonk.. gadonk!!

  • It's stampede here in Calgary... most ppl know it.. it's well known... but either way... lotsa rock, and lotsa country music... I can give a lot of help for anyone who needs it... please e-mail or send me msgs' or comments, ad i'll try to post a video... PLEASE DO SO.. dont be affraid!!!!!!!

  • hey john, i got a little tip for you and your viewers. i'm not sure how you feel about this but, i like to mix either a drum beat (out) and a rythm (in) or vice versa. obviously you can't do this all the time but, it works pretty well for the most part. give it a try and let me know what you think about this technique. yours truely DJ Kizu and remember to practice and enjoy.

  • thanks j, many thanks :)

  • Great video

  • Look up Culture Shock Remix service.

  • haha funny shit(when fast forwarding)

  • One track to another with no mixing.. i have seen EDM Dj's do this out at clubs, and it makes me die a little inside every time it happens :(

  • Cool t-shirt where can i get one?

  • Good vid J! Nice tip :)

  • A few years ago at a prom, I mixed Thriller by Michael Jackson and Love Shack by the B-52's together. What I did was as Thriller ends with Vincent Price's maniacal laughter I started love shack's drum intro. As his laughter ended, Fred Schneider's vocals kicked in. No one really cared or noticed except for my buddy that was with me, but it was great deal of fun.

  • but you make the loop using the "hook" on th song...

  • You could do this, but in a wedding enviroment it's best to play the song as it is and not mess with it . In my experience as soon as you tamper with a well known track people start to ghet pissed off, unless you can do it VERY WELL!! j

  • got to back you up on this i have some great mixes billie jean beat with night fever bee gees and B52s love shack with uptown girl and few others weddings etc they hate them much rather have the original...good point J

  • I do something similiar I think. You should do a vid on this djtavi77 as well :)

  • what I do is just a 2 to 4 beat loop and keep it going, bringing the volume up garadually and then just DROP it in!!!

    it works for me...

  • hey J send me one of those t-shirtsssss!

  • love the t-shirt J :D

  • Is everything good with artists from the first track, after you speed up this tune so much? I heard, they sang so thinly. ;)

    Great video :)

  • nice advice allways kinda turn into a beatmatchingfetichist and then playing rock or oldskoolstuff kinda makes me nervous all the time x)

  • if you listen carefully

    usually you`ll have a 4 or 8 beat instrumental

this is where a loop would comes in handy

this is how i do it

    cheers

  • Brill. Square fest soon j! xx

  • Oh kewl! Awesome stuff J. Thx alot! I usually get so caught up in beatmixing, when I have to play a rock or whatever song I get completely stressed out about mixing it in. :-)

  • Great advice there J ,I usually do a three track rock mix at weddings using that technique, "summer of 69'" into "living on a prayer" and finishing with "sweet child of mine", always goes down a treat. :)

  • woww thankss!

  • Most rock songs are now recorded using a metronome or a click track, which keeps the whole song in time and hardly any fluctuation..........the idea that because its not a drum machine playing and therefore it should not be beat matched is really a thing of the past.

  • thx I wanted to know that lately :)

  • rock music mixed with club beats are awsome but just using the rock songs voice
