Hey i have been DJing for a couple of months now, learned everything from scratch from this man, he is mint and the best dj tutor by far on the internet, please look on my channel and tell me what you think of my mini mix's, all feedback welcome as it will help me improve cheers
This is a good technique, but if you wanna beat match rock. There are some rock remixes and re-drums out there from certain djs/remixers/&producers such as: Rock-It Scientists, and Discotech.
I dont want to sound like an old git (i am, im nearly 50 LOL) i dont much like that house music so play a lot of rock and 70'sdisco and find it near on impossible to beatmatch, so nine times outa ten i'll do what you just did then, glad im doing it right anyhoo.. Great couple of tracks there...

Amateur, if you have the headphones on like that it will sound totally wrong. And your choice of Rock Music is very bad at this moment. This is your worst video so far. You're totally flipped out.
I like this guy but that was whack. I would have echoed out right on the vocal "girl theres a better life for me and you" small amount of echo (35-40 at beginning of lyric and ending with a full on 250 echo on the last two words "and you". But big props to this guy, have you noticed the change in his gear and such? Dude is coming up!!! How the hell do you say this dudes name? it looks like it should sound like alaskins or ella skins.
I'm vice versa lol kind of difficult for me grew up listing to rock then went to heavier to metal, all my friends listened to it and now its just difficult because I was never really around it much for the most part. same thing with country, I like the older stuff but newer I dunno there's a few good songs or more.
I like chopping back and forth, but I can do that fairly easy cuz I have Ableton. But like RealSysOp said, a 1 or 1/2 bar loop usually always works. You just need to throw effects on top for it to sound good. I construct keyed and voice layered sets prior anyway, so bangin the next one in I don't have to do too often.
Hi, i just found this channel, love your vids, keep up the good work.
There is another quite simple Tip which I'm sure you already know, but i missed it in this vid...
When the temo of a track is not constant (rock or not) just let the first track fall into a loop at the point where you want to mix it. Usually the variation of tempo within the loop is small enough to be called constant.
i bloody hate choppers, but uhm... quite frankly, every rockband in the neighborhood works either with samples when recording, a drumcomputer, or they alter it in the studio...
ok now i get it! haha i was always trying tomix it just like u would w/ elecronic music and it sounded terrible! lol ok but just a question: dont u have to pick 2 songs roughly the same tempo? what about genre (metal, punk, classic rock, etc.)?
Well you should pick songs roughly the same tempo as always, unless you're doing a change of genre. Anyway, most modern rock songs are done in a studio with the drummer playing along to a click track, which means he will be almost exactly on the same BPM all the way through. Making it easier to beatmatch... keylock is awesome in this field too.
good video!! but I would like to know how to mix POP, Just tell me please if it's the same than rock o if tou can put a video I will be grateful for you!!!
an musician is considered person who has masterd or close enough mastered a instrument. therefore a DJ wouldnt be called a musician but an highly skilled "Artist" of music and the genre he has masterd. Now this is my opinion and i will explain why. A DJ needs to be creative and has to have a unique style, and most important he needs to master Music and on top of all that he must be able to close his eyes and still be able to beat match and mix with his equipment. So wuld u considr a DJ a Artist?
I kind of agree, the majority of DJ's are artists, however a lot of DJ's that do mash-ups and FX remixes are in essence playing an instrument, they are using music theory to make their own arrangement, so there is an element of composition or musical involvement. But DJ'ing by just beatmatching and mixing songs in and out of each other is an rightly said an art!
fast-fading is also best way when you are changing genre so much that it will sound terrible no matter what you do. :) guess all the mobiles know what im talking about :p
Why are some of you asking that type of question about DJs being Musicians, why not just ask questions that deals with the video. Great Vid DJ Tutor thanks for the info.
Good dj's use the song on a whole new level, trying to take only the good parts of the song and doing something different with them. Having two different but good parts of the music, like a nice heavy bassline of song nr 1 and then playing a sharp repeative sample of the next song is creating a new song.. I don't know if you can call it a musician but it's thinking about the music and creating something new. But not 'just playing a song that another person created'
Do DJ's consider themselves to be musicians? Cus technically they are record player...players. They don't create they mix, they don't improvise they sample. How can they call themselves Musicians?
DJ's aren't musicians, it's as simple as playing other peoples music. The only people who come remotely close to being musicians are exceptionally skilled turntablists like Q-Bert etc;
well it depends Ricsic6... if ur very creative in ur mixes... like u have one beat playing then ur scratchin with another etc. then i suppose u can call em a musician.. in a way.. but if ur just playing tunes then ur more of a record player than a musician... a smart record player that knows the tunes people like :)
This advice is 100% on-the-nose. Way back when I first began trying to mix rock/non-house stuff, I started with Ultimix and Select Mix mixes (which are usually pop and rock tracks which come pre-mixed with intros and outros to mix with) to get more comfortable with playing out live. Once you practice enough, though, you won't need the remixes! It's a lot more fun without the intro/outro too, in my opinion.
It's stampede here in Calgary... most ppl know it.. it's well known... but either way... lotsa rock, and lotsa country music... I can give a lot of help for anyone who needs it... please e-mail or send me msgs' or comments, ad i'll try to post a video... PLEASE DO SO.. dont be affraid!!!!!!!

A few years ago at a prom, I mixed Thriller by Michael Jackson and Love Shack by the B-52's together. You could do this, but in a wedding enviroment it's best to play the song as it is and not mess with it . In my experience as soon as you tamper with a well known track people start to ghet pissed off, unless you can do it VERY WELL!! j
