man wwf sucked so much back in the day.....lol how did i watch this.........wcw made wwf what it is today.....if not for wcw wwf/e would still have shit like this
You can say that again. Same thing with the mark fans who think wrestling should be UFC-Lite, and an actual sport. That mentality has killed the concept of gimmicks and watered down wrestling to the point of boredom we see today.
The fact that Shango's match wasn't even televised in the states just goes to show how much of a flop he was. The WWE actually had him main eventing house shows during the summer of '92 against the Ultimate Warrior, but even the Warrior couldn't get Shango over.
Sadly, after his feud with Rick Martel ended, Tito Santana became something of a 'jobber to the stars'. While he still had a lot of in-ring success, he rarely won a match on a PPV or on programs like Saturday Nights Main Event.
Santana was one of the WWF's most loyal employee's who seemingly was glad to be there without making a fuss about a lack of push from management.
Tito was grossly underrated- amazing in ring performer- only thing that held him from a WWF heavyweight title run was his average mic skills... I consider him one of the top 5 greats of all time- I take into consideration that outside the ring he had things together which is why certain people don't make that list in my opinion
tito- opened up first wrestlemania, opened up first royal rumble, former ic champ, former tag champ. and all anybody remembers is when he was doing jobs. tito is a great company man who had his time and then helped everybody else get over. perfect employee.
I'm pissed that I have the version of this Summerslam that didn't have the extra matches on it, kind of sucks, both this, & Tatanka vs Berzerker were good matches.
I can't understand why they made Tito into a jobber to the stars. Now honestly, I always thought he was just sort of bland, but during his post-Strike Force run '89-'92, he remained incredibly over. If you re-watch the final match of Survivor Series 1990 (Hogan-Warrior-Santana), he got a HUGE pop when he came out. Then was promptly eliminated. Never made sense to me.
@freelan45 it was included on the video tape that was released over here in england. I was at wembley stadium that day and the opening match was nasty boys and the mountie vs hacksaw jim duggan and the bushwhackers, along with this match they were the dark matches before the ppv.
@SonnyAMan Tito Santana may have been a jobber in the WWF... but he's not a jobber at life though. He's doing really well. He saved the money he made in the WWF instead of blowing it on drugs and stupid stuff. And he has a functional family and is doing well at a job outside of wrestling... that's a lot more than most retired wrestlers. Tito should be respected not only for his work ethic, but his put together life.
The two wrestled in a dark match before the PPV event of Wrestlemania IX. I've been trying to find that match, I think Tito wins with a flying forearm. I haven't been able to find it, but would greatly appreciate it if someone else were to find it.
Yeah I was hoping this would be their WM match. Thanx for the upload still Gimmickmuell. It would have been nice if they made Papa Shango v. Tito Santana a featured match on the WM9 card. Could have booked it as a farewell match for Tito. It might have helped what is already considered the worst Wrestlemania in history. This was a great Summerslam tho.
How is WM IX worse than WM XI? LT vs. Bam Bam Bigelow as the main event? Held at the HARTFORD CIVIC CENTER!?!? It was bizarro WrestleMania. No doubt WM XI is the worst BY FAR...in my humble opinion
@cbaldwinjr WM 11 was mad corny yes. But the WTT Championship match and the Cain & Abel match between BDC v. HBK were good bouts. LT v. Triple B wasn't that bad either in my opinion. The one thing that irked me about that match was LT's corner-men and their atrocious promos.
Yeah, but they could've easily been matches on SNME or Raw. Not WM. WM 9 sucked...no denying it. But that card had some high quality matches. HBK/Tatanka, Luger/Mr. Perfect, Hitman/Yokozuna...all great matches. Hogan's ego ruined the end, but HOGAN being there uplifted the event. WM 11 had Jacob and Eli Blu for God sake!
i was at a live show here in st.louis when i was a little kid as he walked down he stopped looked at me and jumped this guy freaked me out i cried the rest of the show i was very afraid of him as of thin

There was nobody like Bobby Heenan. I mean Jerry Lawler is gd. But The Brain hands down is the overall gonna be number 1 wrestling commentator with his fast wit.
@skunkapeJC They almost brought him back during the Attitude era, but they decided to change up his gimmick due to Kane debuting, & they didn't want another dark mysterious character, so they made him Kama & had him join the Nation of Domination instead, Sucks, I wish they would've re-hashed this gimmick then.
Because Tito Santana wasn't over and they tried to liven him up with this and it didn't work out. What it all comes down to is that Tito just plain and simply was destined to be a jobber.
Of course, in 1991, WWF was in Spain and Tito Satana defeat the Undertaker for pinfall, becoming the second person who defeat for Pinfall The undertaker. The first was Hulk Hogan, of course.
Oh really? So when did Hogan pin the Undertaker then? If you are talking about Tuesday Night in Texas, that pay per view was held in december of 1991. Santana defeated Undertaker in october of 1991, but the match only aired on Spanish television channel Telecinco, so outside of Spain nobody (rightly) found out about it.
Why wasnt Flair wrestling at Summerslam 92?...remember guys they didnt have 3 way matches back then...they probably wanted Flair involved in the main event somehow or didnt feel like anybody else on the roster would of given him a good undercard match that night.
Chico Santana had some solid ring skills I guess, but after 10 years in the WWF, his whole super clean cut good guy persona, and his wrestling went sour, all of his matches look the same.
Does anyone know the legit reason why Flair didn't wrestle on this PPV? Was he injured or was there a contract dispute? Storyline was that he and Perfect were interfering in the Warrior vs Savage match, but it seems very odd that he didn't wrestle on the show at all.
