Robert De Niro was much better in The Godfather part II. In this movie is character was so unlikable but his acting was good not great though that scene where he's crying I mean come on that looked kind of pathetic. So yeah that's my opinion sorry to be the hater here but I'm not just a troll looking for attention I really just didn't like this film. If you guys have a difference in opinion though I'm totally cool with that.
@1966Zodiac You must be joking, this is De Niro's best role, and along with Brando's role in On The Waterfront the best acting performance in the history of film.
@tokiluv1 I'm not Joking nor am I trolling. I honestly hated this film. If you liked it though I'm cool with that but whatever. All I know is this movie was boring as hell for me and it's merely about a douchebag boxer. I don't care how original, honest, or clever it is. It's about a douchebag boxer & he's not even cool. He's not like a cool villain or anything like Hannibal Lecture or Darth Vader he's merely a douchebag, and this movie was very unentertaining.
I'm sorry to say this but I think that raging bull is wayyyy overrated. Watching this movie felt more like a chore rather than for enjoyment. I mean Jake is just a douche and this movie is boring as hell and just keeps dragging on. For all you folks that say I can't appreciate a good movie well F*ck you I just have a different taste in film and would rather not be bored to death.
Rocky was a better boxing movie. It's just a shame that this movie beat out Schindler's List
@1966Zodiac Schindler's list is not entertaining either but you want it over this movie. No way in hell is rocky better than this. If anything this movie is underrated. His performance in this is WAY better than the Godfather 2.Hell, his performance in the Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver, and the King of Comedy were better than Godfather 2. Anyway, glad this went over Gone with The Wind.
@whocares12399 My reply to you is simply your youtube account name. WHO CARES?!! No I'm not trolling I honestly hated this movie and was pissed off when I saw it. If you don't like my comment then too bad for you. Give me a thumbs down I don't care. I'm sick and tired of defending my opinion, and I'm sick and tired of people defending the douchebag in the movie. He's a douchebag and I know he's supposed to be a douche so I hated it. So, fuck it.
@1966Zodiac Holy shit you FLIPPED THE USERNAME! You are a genius! I wish the zodiac had killed your grandparents in 1966 so you wouldn't be alive to post something that pathetic. Oh wait . . .
@Marcopolo965 Okay fine then I'm a youtube doucebag according to you. At least I don't beat my wife or hit on young girls like Jake does. It's just my opinion. No one deserves to die just cause they don't like a movie. If you're trying to piss me off it's not working. I'm used to getting shit like that, and I'm sick of overrated movies like this. Ya know I also think that Citizen Kane is overrated too. HOWEVER, it's still a GREAT movie and deserves to be on AFI's top 100 just not #1.
@1966Zodiac Movies like this though I don't think deserve to be on the list at all, and if you want to kill someone over something as simple as that than you're pathetic. BTW "Zodiac" the movie by David Fincher was much better than this film, and it was also a based on a true story. At least the Zodiac was a cool villain this guy is just a plain douche. So, go ahead wish that I was dead for all I care. For all you know I could be an important and/or good person.
@1966Zodiac I didn't really mean that, jesus. I'm not trying to piss you off, and I don't wish you were dead for not liking this movie. I just thought it was funny (in a brutal way maybe my sense of humor is morbid) so I said it. Zodiac was alright, guess you mean that he was "cool" as in he was mysterious and Lector-y? Agree that Citizen Kane is not quite as good as its made out to be.
@Marcopolo965 I'm sorry if I overreated, but youtube is full of trolls, and yes I really enjoyed Zodiac he kind of was like the real life Lector(except without eating people). Anyways, at least we found some common ground. BTW I'm totally cool if you liked this movie. It just doesn't do it for me that's all.

Violence consumes many people. Violence in the ring is a form of expression. Raging Bull expressed this flawlessly. That is why I liked this way more then something like Rocky. Raging Bull is real lives inside boxers heads and souls. People box because of there insecurities and fears. What a good idea that was brought into the right hands of a director and star whom understood it and gave a bum life and humainity.
one of the many great things about "Raging Bull" is that it isn't sugar-coated. It doesn't have a protaganist that u particulary root for, and it doesn't have a happy "Hollywood" ending. I believe it is the greatest American film
Not a big fan of the story...but definitely a movie worthwhile watching to see DeNiro's performance. PHENOMENAL.
But the film as a whole? Not all that great. Terribly disappointing ending too. I think if LaMotta himself hadn't been part of the behind the scenes production, it would have been much better.
I also think that the Godfather should be number 1 not Citizen Kane. But please don't butcher me I'm merely sharing my opinion so if you disagree with me give me a thumbs down if you agree with me give me a thumbs up or comment on how you agree with me. I just don't want to open up my account and find all this hate mail okay.
So please respect other peoples opinions besides I'm not writing hate messages.
OKAY to all you people writing all this crap and hatemail towards me just because I think Schindler's list is better please stop it's only my opinion okay so don't hate on me just because I think a little bit differently. Besides I'm not hating on raging bull I just like Schindler's list better that's all so enough with all this bullsh*t.
Oh and another thing just because my opinions are different that doesn't mean I'm a bad guy. Besides I all I wanted to say is that I disagree with AFI
Personally, I haven't a clue. Schindler's List should be in the top 5. Probably because Schindler's List is fairly new and Raging Bull is 13 years older. The AFI tends to favor old films.
Well Schindler's List is my personal fav, but Raging Bull was more groundbreaking for its time, the realism in Schindler's List probably wouldnt have been acceptable in a hollywood film if Raging Bull hadn't been made.
Raging Bull is far ahad in quality than Schindler's list, in all aspects. The fact that Schindler's list is more epic and beautiful des NOT make it better. Raging bull is one of the most brilliantly directe films of all time. A true masterpiece.
they're not even in the same category!!! raging bull should have won the academy award for best picture in 1980 but it got beat out by that horrible feeling ordinary people. but i think now that we take a look back, it will definitely be regarded as one of the greatest motion pictures of the late twentieth century. thank you.
Raging Bull has been ranked in the top ten of almost every reputable list of the greatest American films since 1980. If AFI were to rank it anywhere outside the top ten, they'd be open to some pretty well-deserved criticism.
its weird because when I saw this great film, no one appreciated yet along liked, but now it ranks with Casablanca, The Godfather and CITIZEN KANE, this film is a masterpiece!
The reason why Raging Bull is so classical is because it shows that personal demons can conquer professional victory. At first I was a little doubtful about this movie, but the more I watch it the more I realize how graphic, profane, well acted and well written this film is for its time.
Just dont get it. RB is a good movie, but #4 on AFI's top 100!!? Ive seen almost all the movies on the list, and Id prob put this in the 70s. Its not horrible, but its just not THAT great. can someone explain to me why RB is so amazing? (Ive seen it twice)
Well, I shared your view when I first saw this list but after watching the movie a few more times I somewhat agree with its high place. I like it because it is a tragedy which shows how things like paranoia, anger and selfishness can destroy even a champion. Sad, but true story.
Also, the acting, writing and directing are perfect in this movie. De Niro gives the performance of a lifetime here.
the first time this list was made, raging bull, i believe, was somewhere in the 20's. the respect it has commanded over the years is incredible. it was never appreciated, but i'm glad its had a rebirth.
