I actually prefer european swords over katana, problem is I'm only versed in Haidong Gumdo training and only may start doing ARMA sometime in the future. How do gumdo cutting techniques fare in using european Swords? I know haidong gumdo has a lot of techniques associated with the straight bladed Jian, So mabey it may work.
@Tneisnart I have no formal training in any sword art. In my opinion the basic application of using a sword to cut applies regardless of the sword type. The way a sword is used to do business varies widely& culturally: they are all valid. Time has seen much; changes in armor/styles, ...Some may hold more relevance now a days, some maybe outdated. My best guess; if u r trained in Gumdo and u get a good Euro u can figure out using it effectively. I enjoy the mix; hope u do 2. Thanks
@LordRuin Ya the handle is about 7 inches, not really meant for a full 2 hand grip but the pommel shape allows for more room; about 8 inches. The sword type, Bastard Sword has some versatility, 1 or 2 hand. This design is quite adaptable, cuts and thrusts well, fast and very sturdy. Thank you

Do you find the XVa type blades to be too brittle for cutting hard targets such as bamboo, etc?

Whats the measurements of the pommel? I was thinking of buying a Mercenary. But, I've read the grip is quite small ( I'm used to 10inch grip ).
