OMG dude that is seriously awesome!!! I am making a AWD SUV with sunroof third row seats a V8 and a 3 speed + N transmission this is all done my problem is the front suspension always bends and I wanna make a strong suspension but I don't have enough pieces to make it do you have instructions on how to build this so I can finish my suv and post a vid up on youtube for all you lego watchers LOL :D .
@Fr3dFr3dburg3r1993@Fr3dFr3dburg3r1993 Thanks man! The main reason i came up with this design is that i didnt have the parts needed to make the real lego 4wd setup. There are a few problems with it though. Although it works, the structure is pretty weak and i cant think of any way to strengthen it.. This means that if you were to to to use this in a vehicle that produces a good amount of torque, this structure would probably fall apart quickly.
I dont have instructions for this design, but if you looking for the parts to make the real lego 4wd design, check out Bricklink. You can buy individual parts on the site. Also check out the site Peeron to see scans of lego instruction manuals to see which parts you want and how they go together. If you buy the parts from bricklink, it should cost around $40-$60 for the whole 4wd setup.
@L1Design I am having the exact same problems you have my front suspension is weak no matter how many times I make different suspension it doesn't work the front bends the wheels and shafts I am trying to find instructions online to see how to make a strong suspension with few parts because I don't have a lot of parts but anyway it still is a cool design what you made my car will soon be finished and uploaded to youtube for all you guys to watch! :D
@Fr3dFr3dburg3r1993 Well i think that reason that lego ended up making specific parts for steering and suspension is there is no way to make it work well with just using regular legos parts. Lego pretty much copied the same designs that cars use with various ball joints and whatnot, but after tying every way to make it work using regular legos, i realize that if you do end up making a design that works, chances are it will be pretty large and wont work nearly as well as the parts lego 4wd parts.
@L1Design Yep I found a lego steering + suspension + 4wd on ebay for like $40-45 its pretty cheap considering the weight it will hold but I just found a page with this 4wd steering + suspension made by a guy called sariel I think who made something like yours and it actually works LOL I will try to build it but if it doesn't work well I'm just gonna buy the suspension off ebay :D
@Fr3dFr3dburg3r1993 yeah i heard of that sariel guy before. He makes really good stuff. I think he has a youtube profile on here. I might already have him on my friends list - not sure. I actually decided that im going to open a website and sell some of the technic lego parts that people seem to really want. This includes the suspension setups. Im probably going to sell parts and sets of pars like the 4wd setup. This site wont be up for like another month though...
