  • Love the game. Have had a group of 5 of us playing for about 6 months now. Hope you keep producing more products for this wonderful RPG

  • Looks cool. But it's too expensive to risk trying this :(

  • @koszt123 They released hardcover books in a more traditionnal format so you can buy the 3 books (Player's guide, Gamemastery guide and the Bestiary) and you'll only need the dices. Around a total of 80$ maybe. The box has all of these + cards to help you keep track of everything. I suggest you ask a local store for a demo game some day.

  • Bought it, never looked back. This is RPG at its best. And you can skip all the cards and tokens if you just buy the Player's guide. So people stop moaning about a game you haven't even tried! =)

  • Not bashing on the gamesystem (as I'm really interested in this) but Dan Clark 1:22 is showing all the classic signs of a lier when he says he has 'Fond memories of himself playing whfrp before :P

  • I still dont understand why they would have the character cards when you could just use actual warhammer models

  • 3e owns the other editions!

  • Thank you fantasy flight games and games workshop for killing warhammer fantasy roleplaying, you should have given second edition along with the IP for it to green ronin. Bloated sales-op of a product with forced content limits and boardgame mechanics all directed to mainly support the need for more content and sales (it's fucking clever, but as a fan of roleplaying games i find it horrible).

  • All the old school rpgs are being turned into tactical rpgs with all this foolish tokens and gamesheets crap.

  • After GM'ing three sessions all I can say that this is just an amazing game, easy to catch up with the rules, very handy to have your talents and abilities by you all the time instead of digging through the book, the dice system actually helps to tell the story.

  • I've been playing WFRP off and on since 1988, and for the first time since I began playing the perilous world of Warhammer I have to say that I am HUGELY disappointed with the direction this game has gone.

3rd editions sucks! Plain and simple.

  • I'm sorry but the new dice system is foolish. I have mixed feelings about the cards, I have no plans to buy 3e, and I'll just hope I can get my hands on the few 2e books I'd still like to get

  • For SIGMAR!!!!! [slight german accent]

  • I like the game and the stting, even if I'm not a big fan of the whole board game aspect of it. it's pretty fun, but a bit wierd.

  • Can anyone answer me if this is an actual ROLE-playing game like DnD where you make a character and you have a GM telling a story.. or is it a board game? I'm confused..

  • @Remrau It is an actual roleplaying game like DnD. Unlike the first and second editions of WHFRP, the third edition has boardgame-style components such as cards, counters, which are basically essential (at least to make things easier) to play this actual game version. I can safely say I'm fully converted to this edition : )

  • @andyroojackson I see, thank you for your reply. I just don't understand what it will add to the actuall game play then. All we ever needed was som pen, paper and dice and our imagination (some times figures and a hexagon map for combat) What will all the other stuff add, and isn't there a risk that it distracts the actuall ROLEPLAYING? Just seems to me it turns more into a card/board game with fixed rules then a fluent RPG system.. Or am I wrong? Please tell me what you like about it =)

  • @Remrau Beginning with the special dice, my players have found that it had increased a lot of roleplaying potential. When you roll for a check of any kind, combat or non-combat, a picture immediately unfolds before you when you look at the results and then you can easily narrate what your character does during the action. It can take a while to get used to having boardgame style components within the game. Actual roleplaying is not at all distracted.

  • @Remrau Onto the different cards: These help to organise conveniently what your character can do without trying to find the right page, etc. Each player has a character box where they store their cards and counters. Once you know how the game works, it can seem that the cards may restrict roleplaying, but like I said before, with enough gameplay, you'll find that the special dice is what can actually help you to visualise and then narrate the story of the action to your group.

  • @Remrau The way combat is handled is quite abstract, giving players and gamesmaster the freedom to express the scene. My group had a good discussion over how we can get the best of the combat system without being too bogged down by the cards and we found that you just need to encourage more of the narrative and roleplaying. Outside of combat, roleplaying is not in the least bit stilted for any player and we've had some of the best roleplay moments in years with the 3rd edition.

  • @Remrau Above all, the more I play this edition the more I enjoy it. I was a bit unsure about it at first since coming from the second edition of the game and I never imagined I would gamesmaster it, but I gave it a chance and I've never looked back. Just remember - that when things seem to dumb down too much with endless cards and counters - let the special dice help you narrate the action! Work with and not against the components to find good potential roleplaying fun.

  • Thereis nothing you can't do in 4e that you could do in previous editions rp wise. Grognards keep saying you can't rp in 4e under the rules, but nobody can give examples. I've been playing it since release, and have found rich to experiences. Guess I'm doing it wrong.

  • They only place a proper RPG had cardboard is in the cover. What is this supposed to be? 2nd was a tune-up to a good old RPG, but this is a regular buttrape!

  • This is essentially a "4th Editioning" of Warhammer as compared with how Wizards moved from Role-Playing D&D to Tactical D&D. I guess that's what kids like nowadays, but is a disapointment to old-school rpg players. Oh well.

  • @pspboy7 Nothing about 4e D&D moves away from RP. That's 100% group based.

  • @Droogie128 Just because I can RP while driving a car doesn't mean a car is a good tool for RP. Likewise just because you can RP 4th edition doesn't mean its a good tool for RP either. You could even argue that you can RP while playing boardgames like Arkham Horror or Monopoly but neither of those games are focused on telling stories. Much like 4th edtion is focused on tactical combat and combat options, rather than producing stories that players will talk about years after the game.

  • @spacemanmink I challenge you to give me one thing previous editions did RP wise that 4e can not do. Your ignorance of the system facinates me. I can show you session logs of my online 4e game, 3 sessions (roughly 4 hours each) with no combat whatsoever. Wonder what we were doing all that time? I actually wonder what "rules" you think are needed for roleplaying.

  • @Droogie128 I don't think any rules are 'needed' for roleplaying. Rules are generally beneficial to facilitating combat resolution though. And 4th ed has so many rules (how many powers does a 10th level character have, each with their own instructions, most of which are highly situational?), that reading, interpreting and implementing the rules becomes the focus of the game. Its a simple issue of time.

  • @spacemanmink 4e is far more rules light than 3e. The powers aren't that situational, and don't necessarily have their own instructions. It's very easy to keep track of with power cards. This is nothing new, either. Spellcasters have been dealing with this for a long time. It simply gives everyone a plethora of options to choose from every round, and even moreso as you level. I always know what powers I have... that's why I choose them. There's nothing new to learn with new powers.

  • @Droogie128 I respectfully disagree. I'm not trying to make any direct comparisons to WFRP 3E because I've yet to play it. All I can tell you is that in the year I've been playing 4th Ed every game has been bogged down by mechanics and the story has never taken center stage. And before you say 'well your group sucks at RP then' let me tell you this group has been playing various other systems every week since 2005 and its the only one that has failed to create conversation around our exploits

  • @spacemanmink I can tell you that my experience is completely different. I'm talking about 3e D&D here, btw, which gets lost under its own rules. 4e has a unified ruleset, instead of tons of different subsystems controlling different little aspects of the game. It's very much closer to 1e in that it's an open ended system, with a few basic rules to learn. The combat is tactical in nature, yes, in that it relies on the party operating as a single unit, instead of waiting for the caster to win it.

  • @Droogie128 One thing I will say, is that 4e is far from my favorite system. It's just the only version of D&D I'll play. I'll take a point buy or hybrid system over a pure class/level system anyday. Savage Worlds and World of Darkness being my favorite. I appreciate you not turning this into a flame war, though, and trying to have a civil discussion on the matter. That's hard to find nowadays. I've yet to play warhammer fantasy, but I would like to give it a shot.

  • Sadly, it looks like a board game. I'd like to try it and see if it feels like a board game, but it's way too expensive. I'll stick with the second edition.

  • I want a PC version of it!!!!!!!!!!!! Enought wit the Dragon Age stuff and that Black/Grey/White universe of D&D.

  • this game was/is great so interesting to GM it i made up a questline based around the book drackenfels ,my players thought it rocked ,havent played in about 18years now

  • a friend alredy told me about it and now i see it clear...

this is the end of warhammer rpg... :(

  • @asuraywolfgang

So you're just gonna blow it off without actually TRYING it first?

  • @asuraywolfgang

I agree ... I can't even see the comparison to real RPG

  • I have to say this looks like it has too many fiddly bits for an RPG - who has this much room on their table!? ours is always covered in battlemats, food and cider!

I'd love to give it a go to see if it lives up to the reviews (even the skeptics are starting to be won over it seems) but I don't want to pay through the nose for something I might not like, and that is designed for a GM and 3 players.

  • @grantosjones Hopping that is Strongbow cider.

  • @Gudamangipo its usually westons - 8.2% :D

  • Luckily we still have the 2nd edition, a very detailed yet simple system that does not force you to buy shitloads of pointless accessories. Get it while you still can, people, I've ordered my books a few minutes ago. ;P

  • Iv'e buy it yersterday and read the main book and I will say this. Its awesome. The game is NOT a boardgame at all. They just give more visual support tools. The dices are customs to fit the system and most of puzzle parts can be replace by simple numbers on a character sheet. But they are useful. Will test it and maybe most a review of it soon.

  • This looks more like a board game than a role playing game. To be honest, it's hard to be enthusiastic about this. Pre-printed cards are not part of the role playing experience.

  • If you want to play WHFRP then play the first edition of the game and the Enemy Within campaign. Not this muck!

  • I think this is a step backwards, I feel like Im playing Decent: Warhammer Edition, than WFRP, to tell you the truth Id rather the opposite had happened, Decent the Board Game become DECENT RPG.

  • Have you played it? Because honestly, this has very, very little in common with a dungeon delver like Descent. It's a full-blooded RPG that is much more aimed at narrativism and outdoor adventures than dungeon-crawling. I know, I own it and it's great!

  • @Necronner haha. That would be fantastic. Wonder why they never got around to do ing that...

  • Well, since it's a Games Workshop game, that means you're going to have to take out a loan, and refinance your house and car, and then sell off all your shit just to be able to afford it.

  • if its GWS then how come there no models

  • It's good to see that there's still a demand for good, old-fashioned Tabletop RPing, even with all the mmorpgs out there!

  • mmorpg's will NEVER be able to match the depth of a creative and devious mind!

  • @phaedruslive you have to be close to my age (37) to make a statement like that! I mean I love video games...but they take a BIG BACK SEAT to Roleplaying and board games!! YOUR absolutely right! A video game can NEVER match roleplaying and board games when it comes to imagination and ALSO SOCIAL SKILLS!!

  • @phaedruslive its called ninja loot :O

  • I cant wait to get this game! when does it come out?

  • I've put this into my favs bcz it does what it seeks to do well. However, I play the 2nd edition and I really don't see this edition as required, especially if this makes them stop supporting it! I'll keep my eye on this one...

  • Well FFG have always liked to put a lot of cards and tokens into their games, look at Arkham Horror (awesome game!) and you'll see what I mean. I may be a little sceptic to this little fusion of boardgame mechanics into a roleplaying game, but I'm still buying it. I figure if it doesn't work and gets in the way of imagination, then I'll just skip those things :)

  • is that still a Warhammer ? Cose I ve feeling like facing a new D&D stuff with all those cards... puzzles ... strange dices.... May I ASK : FOR WHAT >?? it shall be a roleplaying game! Maybe we are about aproaching new area where u will have to sit in front of your notebook as a GM to tell your groupmates what was the roll to hit the ork!!

  • @Giziolman

First, you get your girlfriend used to that kinf of stuff and, before you can tell, she asks you if you want to play "Nobilis"...

Beside, you need that kind of stuff just to get the usual mmo geek's primal attention (that's not an insult)

  • 2:30 -- is he wearing a Tom Baker (Dr.Who) scarf?!

  • Your games are the best products to come out this century. I am an old-time Warhammer Fantasy player and these two videos blew me away.

    Well done, FFG!

  • The game looks fantastic, and I hope it's a success. The dice look like they're etched, which is good because they'll see a lot of use.

  • I really like FFG's Arkham Horror, and I can see some of those elements here. I'm looking forward to trying out this game. :)

  • the small cards and the character stands are the same....thats about it, but hey! its FFG they can use their own stuff again and again if they want :)
