This is a non-"side port" model correct? It appears the top hole is the intake, bottom is exhaust.
What is the advantage of side port? It seems newer engines use sideport. Better VE?

It's called peripheral porting. It's the biggest intake port available, yielding huge power increases, but at the expense of economy, noise, engine life etc etc.
