Did you know that the low rumble you hear in the background was at a certain frequency that caused nausea and unrest, That is why in the first 12 mins when shown at the Cannes film festival half of the viewers came out feeling sick. The whole film is based the feeling of unease and is shot brilliantly to give that effect.

but in having said that.i think it is a brilliantly made film.....how it was actually made in reverse....a film i will neva forget.

Irreversible's violence is ominous, threatening and complex, A Serbian Film 's is cartoonish. Dont get me wrong, I loved A Serbian Film but it didn't give me that heavy/dread-filled/queasy feeling in the pit of my gut. Irreversible is some ice cold shit, A Serbian Film is fluffy, cuddly and warm in comparison...

The first half of the film is extremely tough to get through. The scenes in the gay bar and Alex's rape seem to never end, and we're forced to take in some truly disgusting sights. The man who is killed with the fire extinguisher suffers the no-exaggeration most violent death in film history. I'm not sure quite how the effect was done, but it made me cringe

I too have wondered how in the world they did that fire extinguisher scene! How did they get the effects so realistic? Same with how Marcus' arm gets broken. The violent scenes in this move are ridiculously realistic and frightening.

I know that the brutality after the rape scene was done after the shoot, it was computer generated but for the head bashing I have no idea, it was incredible how ever it was done

The DVD has 'Behind The Scenes' footage. As for the arm break - of course the arm was fake. But they did this technique where they shot that part another camera, then they switched back to the original one. And they just morphed the 2 film strips together in the editing room. It's crazy!
