  • We played with the world's fires...

  • Why didn't you upload The Pale Watchers or A Proper Story? Those are two of my favorite tracks...

  • 2 stupid guys how cant handle their mouse (;

    this is a great song*-*

  • I thought this was an intro to a Killswith Engage song I know at first o.O

  • Such great feelings i get from the music, from the game...the song starts off slow, makes me remember a memory...then it gets quicker, like im in a fight....like im fighting to win...fighting to survive..then when it gets to the part with the hammer, i imagine the Kid, sitting beside Rucks, tired...I think they are talking bout Zulf suddenly the Kid gets up and goes into the Forge, starting to work on his weapons, preparing for battle as he knows it will be a long one planning to bring Zulf back.

  • Easily my favorite song in the game.

  • If you think games can't be an art form, you haven't played Bastion.

  • Wow, I love these alternate versions even more than the originals.

  • There's only one way into Cinderbrick Fort....

    ....The hard way.

  • That ain't funny. I said get up.

  • He learned to build and to break.

  • freakin awesome

  • I wonder why this song wasn't put together like this in the official soundtrack I bought with my copy of the game.

  • How come this one's so much longer than the version I bought off of Steam? I didn't think the versions would be different.

  • @Tzelemel As @Arglactable said, if you rip this song from the game files, it turns out to be a bunch of different songs. Five of them, with each being a variation on the same basic tune. I think this is two of them mashed together if I remember correctly. All of them added together ends up being over 10 minutes.

  • @outphase52 Would it be possible to post that somewhere? I would like to get it if possible, but I know nothing about ripping.

  • @The0rangeCow Going to put the link in the description as soon as I post this.

  • @outphase52 Thanks, you rock!

  • I finally gave up trying to find a high quality version of this and ripped it from the game files myself. Turns out it's a longer version with two other, shorter sections added to the end.

  • I watch in HD ...

  • Sorta sounds like something you'd hear while playing Mass Effect...

    Amazing song regardless.

  • This is probably an old uncut version, the latest included in the soundtrack is 3m 6s long

  • Run, kid, run?

  • This kinda sounds like the version of the song I have, but is still way different. Wonder where they got this one.

  • This is perfect music to play when playing Minecraft.

  • Hey, I remember hearing this but I'm not exactly sure where. I think it was in the Fort.

  • Super Giant games put more effort in the bastion logo than Activision puts in an entire game

  • @TribalDragon001 i just login to give you +

  • @TribalDragon001 Are you insinuating that Activision actually puts effort into their games?

  • @FatalNeurotoxin congratz you found the point.

  • @OMGitsFMA6666 Sarcasm -_-

  • @FatalNeurotoxin You are thick.

  • @OMGitsFMA6666 Ironic

  • @FatalNeurotoxin why ask when you know the answer, Activision is amazing (sarcasm)

  • @TribalDragon001

Even funnier is that logo had virtually nothing put into it compared to the actual game.

  • @TribalDragon001 >Scumbag videogamer hipster.

  • @firespin97 >implying he isn't right

  • @firespin97 Have you ever played Activision games? Even IF they're halfway decent, you'll never touch them again. It doesn't take a hipster to know that.

  • One of the best games i've ever played ! ^^

  • Why is this track on the CD half this length? And where can I get this version? The way it grows is amazing.

  • @Arglactable copy link in video...google video to mp3...follow site instructions...???...profit!

??? may including buying the original soundtrack from supergaint games

  • @Slientwolf I have bought the soundtrack from the link posted in the description. This track is not included.

  • @The0rangeCow Steam doesn't get this copy of the song either. It's intriguing to figure out where this track came from.

  • @Slientwolf I got mine from Steam, it has it.

  • @StrikeWarlock Steam gives a 3:06 minute version, this is 7:51 and the instrumental build up in this song is much slower and the build up is held over a longer period of time.

As I'm writing this comment, I'm having them both play side by side to listen for differences, and they become quite apparent at the 1:00 mark between this song and the Steam (Official soundtrack) version.

And I can't freely listen to .xwb files so if that's what you are talking about...that doesn't work for most people.

  • Someone's gotta occupy the top, so indie developers stay below...

    ...and keep being awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • this intensifies my workouts over 9000x!!!

  • Hmm, this is not the original song... where is this from?

  • the build up of this song is awesome

  • Fuck the videogame industry guys. I can't stand it anymore, people are focused more on money than actual quality. Look at games like CoD, GoW, and Resistance. And game critics everywhere will keep on giving them 9/10's for no reason.

We need to focus on unique, innovative, beautiful games like this. Games that were made by people who want to make games because it's their passion, not because they want a diamond chandelier for their golden mansion.

  • @Slide2671 You took the words right out of my mouth.

    *Offers High-five*

  • 'Mainstream' games have their place in the industry. Super Mario Brothers was also pretty mainstream back in its day, and nobody doubts that's a good game, right? Sure, there are a lot of gamers out there who won't give the time of day to anything other that's not exactly the same as every other game they've played (read: Madden 12 and Black Ops), but they're avoidable just like their favourites. Pity they make so much more money than unique, good games...Life ain't fair.

  • Where did you get this version from?

  • this was one of the best games in a loooooooooong time, hoping they make a Bastion 2 in a future with a multiplayer mode it would be awesome

  • im just happy its not FPS

  • Yeah, I'm not finding this version of the song on the OST at all. The Mine, Windbag, Mine version in that is quite different.

  • I bought the OST, but this version of the song wasn't in it. Where did you get it? I would love to download it.

  • @BCLaraby Not to mention Breath of Fire IV, MediEvil, Spyro(the first three games), Resident Evil 2, Legend of Dragoon, etc.. All good games.

  • really cool song. very cool game. At times i felt like I was rocking toe jam & earl with a bazooka. Better than COD7, Infamous, Assassin's Asshair, and Borderlands.

  • @WeskerLogan Now I agree with insulting everything there but Borderlands. Gearbox did incredible with Borderlands, they had a phenomenal sense of humor and knew exactly what they wanted to make. And as far as DLC is concerned released some of the highest quality DLC ever. At the time of General Knoxx's DLC release they claimed the Best DLC of alltime, and it is easy to agree. Borderlands 2 looks equally incredible and set to do everything a sequel should.

Ps, I own Toejam and Earl :D

  • Super Giant Games... Really outdone yourself on this one. Soundtrack, Gameplay, and most of all the deep, deep story. Amazing Job.

  • Where did you get this long version ? In-game ?The one from the official OST is like 4 min long

  • I got so emotionally into this game at times i thought that I was the kid...did this happen to anyone else or just me :P

  • @MisterCarrotify I, also, was pretty sure I was the Kid as well.

  • @MisterCarrotify Close, but I didn't think I was the kid. I thought I was right there, on the bastion, painting the story of the Kid's journey with my mind.

The story is amazing, I'm glad the game is focused on being a story, rather than a game. It might be a completely foreign world... But the game feels so real. It's kinda hard to explain without going into details about spoilers, which is certainly something we'd like to avoid here.

  • @Hothit05 Exactly! I couldn't have said it better myself. Kudos to you!

  • Windbags is the same as us. All they want is some food and a warm place to stay...

  • @Obliterator54 After hearing that... ;n; made me feel bad for killing them...

  • Why are people comparing Triple-A developers and Indie developers in the comments? Damn. Enjoy the music. I don't care who makes a game, I go into every title, be it big-budget or independently made, with an open mind. I get much more enjoyment out of gaming that way.

    Also, Bastion is SO GOOD.

  • This game reminded me of why I started playing videogames in the first place.

  • @daxter375 oh cmon, why i cant thump up this comment 1xxxxxx times? :)

  • Fuck indie and mainstream titles games are games because they are fun and innovative to play. They evoke emotion or just stimulate endorphin's in the brain without any thought some are story based while others are mindless fun. Bastion molds the two together and perfects em.. now matter if a game is "mainstream" or "indie" people put alot of work into them and like a piece of art.

  • @Lazryus @doombybbr

Careful what you say guys! I believe COD4 & COD: Black Op's had rather powerful story's (Both DEMOTED war), the gameplay was tight and it was generally enthralling to play! Square Enix has always been "Hit and Miss", but their graphics, character designs and landscape concepts have been top notch!

Indie games does have a wide variety, but it is because they have less risk. Companies like EA and RockStar can crumble with just one release of a bad game! So blame the demand!

  • @Charliem1016 you fail... companies like EA and Square Enix can release a lot of bad games withouth it ruining their popularity.

  • @realoscararia

As a game designer and developer myself; I'm going to put belief into my info. I highly suggest you read up copies that have sold of various EA, RockStar, Square Enix, Lionhead Studios as well as how game studios design a game pre-production. You will find that, despite some games being "bad" by the companies, usually sell extremely well.

So, I will re-illustrate my point from my original post. Blame the people BUYING these bad games and stop acting like a pretentious prick.

  • @Charliem1016

Blame the Marketers being so damn good at what they do for every kid hollering about how he got a tactical nuke in Call of Grenade 2, Grenades of Grenades.

At least we've got the occasional studio making amazing games that are legitimately good, and not buying a high rating off of the big gaming websites. Bastion took my completely by surprise, and I hope to see more from these guys, because had the best storytelling in a game to me, in a long time

  • @SirSexyAlot *Cries for the future of humanity*

  • @SirSexyAlot Alright junior now go play with your other shiny toys that will be forgotten in less than a decade

  • @SirSexyAlot Hey, bro. We heard you like trolling, so we put a troll in your troll, so you can troll while you troll.

  • My favorite track from the game. First played when the Kid's story is told during the Waterpipe level.

  • Oooh, I like this one with the hammering sound in it.

  • I paid for the game and the soundtrack. Indie RPG, best two words ever.

  • @Persiana Really? I'd say Supergiant Games is the best two words ever, considering the first game they ever decided to give us was something as great as Bastion.

  • @Lazryus they better make the next one just as good(if they do that for every game then they will have even more hype about their games then square enix and cod combined!)

  • @doombybbr And honestly, they deserve it. Square Enix's games kind irk me the wrong way now, and CoD's always going to be a frat boy's metaphorical crack, which isn't amounting to much. It'd be awesome to have a high quality developer like Supergiant Games on top for once.

  • @Lazryus Oh man, how great would that be? Personally, Indie devs make my favorite kinds of games and make just beautiful soundtrack to go with them.

  • @Lazryus peter molyneax needs people from supergaint games instead of his dum henchmen working for him right now

  • @Lazryus Indie games are (almost) always SOOO much better than "mainstream" games. You can actually feel the time and energy and love put into them. This is a gamers game to be sure.

  • @sharkmaster99 The problem here I guess is that Indies make games because they love games, mainstream companies make games to make money. And the sad truth is that the average human on earth feels OK playing CoD all day. :(

  • @sharkmaster99 Their better because they have to balance resources. Triple AAA games will not do this well, and throw all the money at things that aren't for gameplay.

In a sense, Triple AAA games are like little kids, most brats, some good kids, the indies are almost like developing, responsible adults, always growing into a more mature version.

  • Well, it can't really be that simple- not just indie vs. mainstream, anyway. There are plenty excellent mainstream games (think of developers like Bioware, Valve, and Bethesda).

I would be willing to bet that indie and mainstream games are equally likely to be good or bad, but that nobody ever hears about bad indie games. Why would anyone bring them up, after all? They fade into obscurity, and so they don't tarnish the reputation of indie games in general. Maybe that sort of skews the data.

  • @mysteriousbob777 You make a very good point. Well played!

Also, that made me think of how it seems the longer a developer is in the market, the "worse" their games become. They may start out with amazing games, or may start small and work their way up to big, but in the end they always seem to run out of Steam. (See what I did there? XD) There's plenty of examples I can think of. Square, Blizz(potentially), Bioware are a few.

  • @sharkmaster99 they see that being a small studios they cant provide the best looking graphics and stuff...

so they concentrate on everything they can... and the overall package is A WAAAY better that even some mainstream AAA games (no finger pointing there!)

  • @Dizintegrator The best games from the 16-bit era had okay graphics, but the story was AMAZING. Final Fantasy 2/3, Chrono Trigger. God, those games were amazing for their day.

  • @BCLaraby

That's because they weren't obsessed with - what else? - graphics at that time. They couldn't get any better and thus could work on other things, other than making it pretty eye-candy.

  • @sharkmaster99 I can almost guarantee there wont be 15$ map packs.

  • @Felsmukk made my day!

  • @sharkmaster99 true that indie games can be just as good quality wise as triple a titles and have more love put in them yeah.... still can't wait for skyrim ^^ them "mainstream" games aint so bad

  • @sharkmaster99

To be fair, who do you think loves their game more? The Indie Dev, most likely working on it in their spare time, or the Mainstream Development Team, all of which could be working higher-salary, lower-stress jobs, but who -choose- to stay in a field that expects them to work under massive, ever-increasing loads as deadlines, budget concerns and executives begin to loom over them?

It's very easy to invest "time and energy and love" into something that asks for little in return.

  • @YukkuriAteMyBaby

What would you rather have - a game with a new, innovative (probably spelled that word wrong in a million different ways) design and great storyline that's told in a very impressive manner, or yet another game of a theme that's been done to death and was done mostly with money in mind?

I'll pick the former, even if the developer did it in his spare time, thank you.

  • @sharkmaster99 Independence from top tier publishers shouldn't influence your opinion on games. This is published by WB games who are going to bring us Arkham City, a heavily marketed, fairly high budget 'gamer's game'. I'm not saying people should overlook smaller games, justt be aware of a game's actual merit.

  • @mooseknuckle51 The publisher is not the developer. The publisher is responsible for the ad campaigns and distribution, though -some- publishers get way too involved in the developer's work. "You want us to sell your game? This is what you'll make." If this is any indication, WB didn't do that in the least, and the game feels full of "time and energy and love". It's got a creative spark that games released by some other publisher/developer combinations don't.

  • @sharkmaster99 actually its the inverse more often then not.

AAA games tend to cost so much that they have to aim for "ok" rather then "great".

indies are more or less erratic and chaotic so then always aim for "great" but since they don't advertise we only end up hearing about the great ones while the ones that make zynga look good are generally quickly buried by the sands of time.

  • @malivaxx I like the fact that you used the phrase "Sands of time" in your statement.

    = )

  • @sharkmaster99 This isn't an indie game though.

it was published by Warner Brothers and marketed with Warner Brothers.

  • @ZombieDawgs The game was still made by an independent DEVELOPER. In my opinion, that would still make it an indie game.

  • @ZombieDawgs it is indie if it is developed as such.

  • @ZombieDawgs it was taken under wings of WB after the game was allready done. it was developed by a small group of people alone, without any outside help. thats indie ..

  • Comment removed

  • @Lazryus sad thing is EA, BLIZZARD, SQUARE all used to be legends creating games just as epic and classic as this... but money does things to a company. so thats why blizzard north left and created runic games to develop torchlight as an independent indie game. the creator of this game(the man who masterminded the whole thing) used to be the head of the huge franchise CnC he worked all the way up till CnC 3 (this is why CnC 4 blew so many chunks) he left so he can create art again

  • @zearsocom It's sad but that's buissness look at Activision. They started out of discust of the way things were done at Atari when Warner Bros took over and look at Activision now they became the thing their founders wanted to get away from. It's just that when a company reaches a certain level of success they either get taken over by corperate scum fucks or those within become corperate scum fucks to please their share holders.

  • so... the music is really good, yes?

  • You can buy the soundtrack NOW! supergiantgames DOT bandcamp DOT com

  • @EvilFriedBacon Got my soundtrack! Best $15 I ever spent!

  • @SodaTastesYummy So, it's better than Bastion itself?

  • @PiggyOwnYou Think he was talking about buying bastion just that he also got the sound track.

  • @viero789 Bastion is $15, so if he said the album was the best, than it was better. Understand?

  • The Guitar rifts in this song remind me of Lethal weapon.

  • like looking down a crater....aparently the biys at supergiant know what the word aesthetics means good for them lord knows gaming now days needs more of it
