Essentially the universal translator was a cop out so that people didn't complain about it like they do with Stargate (which is overall much better sci fi, imo). But ultimately that is all it is, in fact, it is only mentioned once in TNG (other than the pilot) when explaining why they can't understand the language of the aliens in "Darmok" (actually that is the explanation, it just cant translate their language). All in all I think that the worst science in ALL sci fi is universal translators.
example: when Klingons are speaking Klingon, sometimes humans actually hear Kinglon, how does that happen?
also, once Worf mentions that the Klingons do not have a word for something, I can't remember what it was lets say its Peace or something. If Worf is speaking Klingon and it is being translated real time, then how did he say "In Klingon, we don't have a word for peace" in Klingon?
I'm finding most of your "problems" with Star Trek are extremely minor compared to other ones, for example their are many episodes where the original explanation of the language translation device does not adequately explain lingual events across the whole series.
I know there is a character change for picard in the movies but i think picard is just sick of it all. i think maybe he is just tired of all the crap that continues to happen to him. cmon... who wouldnt go crazy on that borg in the holodeck. picard showed his true anger towards the borg. all the other stuff i will have to look into before i care.
in voyager when they "break the warp 10 barrier" everyone says that Tom Paris is the first so pass warp 10........ in TNG when the traveler comes onboard they go much faster then warp 10. anyone elce notice that. sorry tom, the whole crew of the enterprise-d beat you to it long before you even tried
What about the episode where they bring scotty back at the dyson's sphere and when they said they were from the enterprise, scotty said that he knew kirk had brought the ship out of mothballs to get him (or something like that). then in the movie Generations, Scotty saw that kirk had disappeared from the enterprise B. So if scotty was there for that, when he got laid up in a transporter buffer, he should have known that Kirk was already gone.
as for your first video. the "infinite warp" barrier was never changed, the scale was changed to, say, warp 20 or sth being the top speed. which would mean warp 13 is about warp 6.5 by the standard scale.
just like there was a reference in TOS of the enterprise being the only federation ship in the quadrant. so when it was established that there were four quadrants of the milky way, it was explained that earth was on the very edge between quadrants, satisfying both premises.
@jisaid08 Yet people have posted explanations to your problems. If you want a real issue with the Star Trek universe, I've got one.
Why, in numerous episodes, do people ask "what did he say?" in reference to a Klingon speaking in their native tongue? For a few words there are no direct translations, but for most of the instances in which this happens there are.
In Insurrection, Worf was setting up a defense perimeter against the Domininion at a nearby colony, and he was able to visit with the Enterprise at that time. For Nemesis, he was there for the wedding of Troi and Riker. Also, even though he became the Federation Ambassador to Qo'noS, it's entirely possible he was able to maintain his Starfleet commission, possibly on a reserve basis.
Some books note that he was there on an acting basis. It is also entirely possible that he is there under the reserve activation clause... just as Dr. McCoy was brought back in ST:TMP, though Worf always had a sense of honor and duty.
Regarding the Klingon 1st contact... the description in "First Contact" is still rather accurate, even though it is drawn out. Even in the 1st episode, it's not like the Klingons took a liking to Archer..
I enjoyed your two videos. For those who are calling you pathetic, picky or whatever, what does that make them when they criticize you so harshly for doing these videos? THEY are the ones who need to lighten up and get a life!
Horrible arguments, this guys knows nothing!!! I'm outta here!!! I don't even wish to make further comments, this guys DOES NO RESEARCH. Worf's appearance on the Enterprise in Insurrection is explained briefly in both Insurrection and DS9 episode!!! And You Call Yourself a Trekker!!!
come on,really, how many times did worf leave starfleet and he's back 2 weeks later??...
did anyone actually watch ENTERPRISE the concept is that someone from the future is screwing with the present, how hard is that to understand?? so ofcourse things are going to change
The pilot episode of Enterprise confused me quite a bit, but I never thought that they implied that it was depicting the Federation's first contact with the Klingons. Also, it would be too painful for me to rewatch the episode in the near future, so if I am dead wrong, it's okay to tell me.
@Treknologist Well Klang was the first Klingon Starfleet had any contact with and the Enterprise took him back to Qronos so I guess that's first contact with the Klingons. Then later in the series they had a few encounters with the Klingons but none of them ended badly or "costs countless lives" as Picard said in the episode "First Contact".
@jisaid08 They met, briefly. But I think it's implied that first contact between the Federation and the Klingons - after the fed got formed, is when it went so badly wrong.
@jisaid08 It has been a while but I seem to remember the Starfleet officers recognizing Klang as a Klingon and deciding to bring him back to Qronos, which shows they familiar with the Klingons and aware of the existence and location of the Klingon homeworld. To me this seems to imply that first contact with the Klingons happened a fair amount of time before these events. I do agree that the Klingons are far too accepting and accommodating to Archer if their first contact led to a huge conflict.

These problems are riddled throughout the series

I don't consider ST Enterprise canon. It's so bad they should just call it an alternate universe.

I find it hilarious that anyone would even accept ST:Enterprise as canon and bother to rage over it.

as i see it, worf's appearance in the movies has been properly explained in the comments already.
the one with the artefact being thrown away as junk has always bugged me, i must say.
i always thought soong's escape pod was his own design. as you would expect from a genius criminal mastermind.
first contact with klingons must have been changed due to interference from the future (remember, it was the suliban who chased the klingon to earth).

Yeah enterprise has multiple mistakes, one of the biggest ones is that first contact happened with klingons 50 years after enterprise takes place!
