  • I can not get over how powerful this song is, the way it makes me feel, I know Morrissey and he knows me, and hes writting this song to me!

  • "Do you see me when we pass ?

    I half die.."

Truly beautiful song :) I love Morrissey's lyrics:)

  • god.I love The Smiths.

  • I had a dream once that Johhny taught me how to pay this, in the morning I tried but it was all wrong. I still can't play it. I stared at his hands at a gig in '85 but didn't get it. But I was 17. Where did my life go? where did my wife go? Oh yeah, now I remember!

  • @FSMnoodle watched Johnny's hands at a gig in '85! I'm not surprised you didn't get it, he's the undisputed master. It would be like watching Merlin the magician. But good on you. Yes, time does pass quickly and I too ask myself "where did my life go?" Take care :)

  • so is this song about animal rights or a sad song about his infatuation?

  • Listening to this sometimes makes me forget that I don't live in 1987

  • a band knowing their worth, such a beautiful song

  • This song always makes me wish it was raining.

  • @xxZeroZonexx If you're in England like me then surely it probably will be?!

  • @marcusraymond123 Nope, that's another good reason I want to live in England.

  • @xxZeroZonexx rainymood. com you're welcome.

  • Top comments shouldn't mention that there is no dislikes, than the turds see it and dislike it D:

  • Just seen the Bass tabs for this !!!! What a Bass player is Andy Rourke!!!!

  • a band that came from a time..........i remember them in the 80's and in that socially sensitive time they had a finger on the pulse of the coping class of the times.......

    urban, decaying, gritty.......

  • awesome bass line! just like many The Smiths songs.

  • I love the rain.

    ...

No witty comment, I just really love the rain.

  • the poster reads

    THE SMITHS

    ON TOUR WITH JAMES

That would be a good night out!

  • bassline omfg.

  • Perfection. Absolute perfection. The lyrics, Morrissey's vocals, the bass...

  • that bass.........

  • just beautiful lyrics...one of the my favorite Smiths songs...

  • magnificent

  • The lyrics are beautiful, but without Marr's guitar they just won't work. What a wonder the band were - oh how we miss them. The sum greater than the parts.

  • do you hear me when you sleep? i hoarsly cry.

do you see me when we pass? i half die.

    please keep me in mind..

ohh god this is my song.. :/

  • this is just an incredible song.. so much depth hidden behind the voice of morissey

& specially the bassline is just great

lyrics are pretty much something that just speaks to me

  • 2 seconds in and I'm 16 again - and with it all the good and the bad of those days.

  • I've cried to the sound of this song so many times as a teenager.

  • There will never be another singer/songwriter duo like Morrissey and Marr. They totally created their own genre. A shame they can't still play in the same band. Funny how when I first heard of The Smiths or Morrissey I was a freshman in high school and everyone was calling this "college music". It was cool as hell and I've been hooked ever since.

  • I first heard this when I was 17 and to me it was the most perfect song. The bit with the rain kicking in is amazing.

  • Said it before and I'll say it again; Meat is murder is the best Smiths album.

  • i hate that when i tell people i listen to the Smiths, they automatically associate that with goth 'cause Morrissey and Marr are two of the darkest and greatest writers of their days. WTB?

  • music like this shows me that i am not alone in this world .

  • @JURYJOHMZOMBIE That's a recurring theme in all Smiths songs

  • so sad...

  • i half die

  • Brings me back to College in the 80's.Moz and Marr were brilliant.

  • How can you not get emotional to this song ! great song off probably their best album , gasping but some some how still alive, this is the fierce last stand of all i am ! fucking quality personified.

  • awesome, i love the rain at the end. perfect end to a perfect song. morrisey makes me cry for no particular reason.

  • Perfect

  • A Smith fan for 28 years and there are no bad smiths albums

  • i half die....

  • Best song in the history of the universe

  • Reminds me of a girl who hardly knows I exist... Be nice if she could keep me in mind one day...

  • This is the fierce last stand of all iam

  • When I die. I will take this song to my grave on my Walkman.

  • please keep me in mind :(

  • This song is perfect for aimlessly staring out of the bedroom window, watching the rain.

  • my wedding song >.<

  • This song is literally describes my 4 years in highschool....amazing how Morrissey does it.

  • so beautiful it hurts

  • wow zero dislikes, brilliant :)

  • once you've discovered the smiths every other band or musician seems so... dull and pointless and superficial.

  • Meat Is Murder was my introduction to the Smiths. I bought the album because I liked the cover art. I was hooked. Still am. Only Morrissey can take the most horrific of emotions and put them to music.

  • This songs about wuthering heights.

  • Absolutely beautifully sad but yet very uplifting. A catharsis I always love to return to.

  • nah actually i change my mind. rebecca black is betr (:

  • this is amazing, possibly the only song out of meat is murder i have never previously heard. i'm so glad i have now... wow

  • The Smiths=Dream Team

  • nice scratch on the record youve got there, fuck sake, im going to see morrissey at york!

  • One of The Smiths' saddest, most haunting moments......."this is the fierce last stand of all I am"....another Morrissey/Marr song about unfulfillment, and bittersweet as hell. Whatever you picture when the sound of heavy rain kicks in, it's bound to be bleak. I totally endorse PrideLustandEnvy's comments below - and I love to hear 'There Is A Light' immediately afterwards. Made for each other.

  • holy fuck...one more masterpiece from mozz and marr.

so angst memories from when i was teen boy.

    so beautiful...and uplifting...as allways i was wrong

  • I find it so hard to listen to this song. It is so hauntingly beautiful and I adore it so much that it almost pains me to listen to it. The restrained desperation and love in the song is so lovely I can barely stand it, but am always glad that I have.

  • This bassline is just...dreamy. Andy Rourke= genius bassist.

  • @fassaalbrecht

    indeed my friend!!

  • This song helped me survive bullying in junior high...and my mother. I used to pray/sing silently to God "please keep me in mind."

  • @ayititifi10

    hope you feel better.

those bullies are cowards and shit could breeth.

  • I can't believe Ive never heard this before...it's wonderful

  • I named my band after this song.....Somehow Still Alive....changed my life....I have herad this song at least 150,000 times since i was 7 and i cant get over it...

  • @lukedogg. It's a gorgeous song with compelling, sad words.

  • Probably the most under appreciated Smiths song. Absolutely beautiful

  • I think about my dad when i listen to this....

  • The outro to me is just amazing. The layers of guitar are so wonderous...hypnotic!

  • This song goes to someone I loved a long time ago. He tricked and hurt me in the most horrible way.. When he left me behind I felt just like

"Gasping - dying - but somehow still alive" .. And I still wonder does he keep me in mind.

  • can't seem to get emough of this one lately...

  • My computer will only load the first 8 seconds...it's so good I'd probably sit here and just repeat those 8 seconds over and over again. Love this song.

  • my fave smiths song ever, SO gorgeous

  • this song goes out to steven morrissey

  • meat is murder = my favorite album, ever

  • @supimchloee its a great album, Underated even by some smiths fans

  • a cycle ride home in the 80's - a song in your head a- a girl you should have asked to dance - ........ happy days....but not at the time

  • @micheleaugusto couldn't have said it better.

  • This song reminds me of my parents; I'm sorry that things have happened the way they have...and I'm sorry you've chosen to stand behind your god rather than stand behind your son. Keep me in mind.

  • 'Well I Wonder" is simply pure genius with Moz & Johnny Marr @ their finest.

Haunting, timeless & a tune I could proudly have played at my funeral.

A tender lament to so much that passes....

That rain @ the end is just grand.

  • Quite possibly the most romantic song ever written.

  • amazing tune, spent many an hour listening to this album when it came out

  • "This is the fierce last stand of all i am". Fucking brilliant !!!

  • Great track, I'm listening to it beside the rain. Makes me feel closer to Moz. Morrissey is in the rain.

  • 0 dislikes...only because it's probably one of the most incredible songs ever written and recorded.

  • Love this song falsetto just amazing.

  • one of my favorite songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PLAY THIS FROM THE CITADEL/MOSQUE REALLY LOUD

  • Morriseys voice on this one could almost make me go gay

  • @nothing5630 "Give in to lust, Give up to lust, oh heaven knows we'll soon be dust ... "

  • @nothing5630 Morrissey's voice alone could make me go straight.

  • @nothing5630 wow come out of the closet

  • 0 Dislikes :)

  • Stupid cretinous komunism defended listening this good music in time The Smiths, I am from Czech Republic - one of post-communist states of Europe....

  • All time favorite Smiths track. Saddest thing I've ever heard.

  • I think its beautiful how most of us already have this song in our music libraries but still come on here just to listen to it and read peoples comments about how much they appreciate it : )

  • This band never ceases to amaze.

  • this song is fucking beautiful.....it made me cry

  • I want another Smith's band. I want another Morrissey guy. Music isn't dead yet, is it? C'mon England, we are waiting for your angst!

  • @theflop Check out Magic bullets, not english but whatever.

  • 'The last time I saw the Smiths live was in Hawaii 1994 '

    they split up in 1987!

  • the voice, haircut, fashion, guitar, lyrics plus outstanding songwriting equals an awesome one of a kind band..The Smiths ...thank god there is a medium like youtube to relived those years..long live the 80s

  • ***T*H*A*N*K***Y*O*U***M*O*R*R*I*S*S*E*Y***

  • Gasping - but somehow still alive and listening to this beautiful song!

  • they don't make band's like the smith's anymore

  • The last time I saw the Smiths live was in Hawaii 1994 - he quit playing in the middle of the concert because people were slam dancing in the mosh pit!

  • @Taew2009

Why would someone stop playing because of the beauty that is slam dancing? assuming no one not participating was getting very hurt.

  • big tune!!

  • I love it! This music is perfect! Thanks!

  • it's nice to standin when i get your smile in mind

  • i go through these phases with every band i like alot, but not one has stuck like the smiths has. im in high school, and nobody can relate because nobody likes the smiths. its hard to call any music today real music. but i dont really care if everyone else is wasting time on talentless singers and bands, all i need is the smiths and i dont ever see myself going through a day without listening to them for the rest of my life.

  • @kendallbob good man..keeps me going everyday. thru good times and bad

  • @kendallbob I feel the exact same! Long live Mozza :D

  • @kendallbob all i need is the smiths and i dont ever see myself going through a day without listening to them for the rest of my life.

Are you sure you're still in high school? These are my sentiments exactly. I saw The Smiths live, consumed everything they ever produced and pride myself on being a Miserable Old Bastard. Welcome to the club.

  • comforting melancholy.

  • Would love to see The Smiths Indeed as unfortunately there is no chance of The Smiths ever performing again (was lucky enough to see them in Cornwall in October 86). Does anyone know if The Smiths Indeed are doing another tour? I am from the South West and missed them in Bristol in March.

  • i paid 2 quid to see th e encore at middlesbrough town hall on the last uk tour....was well worth it.....

  • I listen to this song when I'm lonely, i.e. often.

Unusually for me it makes me want to experience love.

  • meat is murder is their best album for sure

  • @samwigan i saw them in manchester a few months ago and i wasnt dissapointed one bit, they were amazing

  • big heart!

  • For many years, in 1986, I heard this song for the first time, and after 27 seconds of starting, they had me trapped forever.
