very sick lift. just picked up garage kept 95 cherokee country with 88k, are wheel hub spacers essential? i havent lifted it yet and it has stock honeycomb style tires. any essential bolt on performance parts you recommend?
Put a lift on a friend's XJ in an afternoon came out nice and installed 32" wranglers fit really nice looks good and rides even better. A hint for thoes looking at this to do a lift themselves, Defiantly spray a good penetrating on all the bolts youll be working with daily, for a couple days before starting ESPECIALLY the front bolts on the rear springs and loosen them BY HAND gently (also work them back and forth) so you wont snap them off and a good coil spring compressor helps too. Good luck
Man that lift looks massive for only being a 3.5 inch. Looks more like 6 inches lol. Looks good, you have any videos with the finished product (wheels/tires, bumpers etc...) ?
i have a 93 grand cherokee i picked up for 1200 bucks put a 4.5 lift kit igot online for 600 bucks w some 31 x10x15 it looks prettycool itook it on the trails, and it did fine, it took about 15 hours to install,no tranfer case drop. but im going to to install the case dropby about 1 1/4'' thats the size spcer that came w this kit,the drop is to push the drive shaft back into the tranfer case &differential as you raise the jeep it pulls out, u drop the case it goes back in, all stock afer that
Nope. I did have it aligned right after the lift was installed as I was installing new 32" tires at the same time. I drove the Jeep several years without any death wobble issues. It's a very well designed kit.
did you do a transfer case drop? IF you did can you explain to me how to do it? i just bought a 94 XJ and i wanna do a 3.5 RE lift... i do NOT understand the t-case drop AT ALL
why would this take you 15 HOURS? i did mine out of one jeep into another and i swapped in 4wd in 10 hours. I never did it before either... If anyone has any questions about 4wd swaps in a 2wd i will help you ! email me mg_sharple@yahoo.com i will tell you exactly what you need.
@jettaracer94 As he said, he had a problem getting one of the original leaf packs out. I had one hell of a time with the forward bolt on the left leaf pack... It took me 3 hours to get the damned thing out. So, depending on how long it took him to fetch the nut out of the unibody, it can take upwards of 15 hours to do the install. Granted, if they had a hydraulic lift, it would've taken less time... You've gotta keep in mind, too, that a beer or two may have been had.
just found a 94 bigfoot cherokee with a 1800 dollar lift kit and tires, the dealer is taking it in the balls on this one and it hasn't moved in 60 days. 3 days, baby and I get a distressed inventory discount! yess i cannot wait.
I think lifts are shit, you start to run into limits in the suspension so you buy more parts to get more flex and you end up spending more than the truck is worth. If you try to keep the lift cheap by buying cheap parts they will not perform as good as stock parts and any trail that would need a lift like this would get you stuck anyway.
Yes this is only a 3.5" RE lift and it did lift it more than 4" when it was finished. Keep in mind that bigger tires add to the height of the vehicle...
Maybe, maybe not. Seems there are so many factors that can effect this. Best to budget for it but don't order it until after you get the lift on and know that you need it.
@crapgeey I may be a bit late responding, but if you "need" an SYE kit for 3" of lift, something went terribly awry. In all honesty, a 1" t-case drop bracket, and 6 degree shims is all you need for a 4.5" lift. Even a 5" lift can run that set-up with no real issues. There are some with a 4-5" lift that experience a slight vibration at certain speeds (usually below 30), but it isn't actually anything to be concerned about. Run a t-case drop and don't sweat the shims, then see what happens.
No, actually I had trouble with one of the rear leaf spring bolts. Broke off inside the frame. Took the bumper off and cut a hole in the end of the frame so I could reach the nut and replace it.
@OHHEYO death wobble can be caused by lots of difrent things, check your steering box mount, upper sway bar mount, left and right, track bar, and check any bushings you can find. if none of this works and everything is tight, take it to an alignment shop. if you still have the problem then i suggest upgrading your steering box with a 4 bolt mount and maybe a steering box out of a YJ, hope this was helpfull
@KevoRidesFit lol actually i already did the back, and yeah i got the old man emu for the back just thought i could get something beter frot he front... anyways i just got some adjustable shoks for the front for a 2.5 inch lift.... this way if i wana go higher i can just get the coils and adjust the hight... thanks though.... btw its only gona be about a 2.5 inch lift you think i really need some spacer thing to drop the front diferential?
@Demon1987 Id say if your not doing heavy wheeling with it, you can wait awhile, but it does put stress on the front axles...so all the potholes and dips and bumps on the road could make a toll on it too. once you have the money, I'd go for it. I like things to be legit so I'm never the one getting stuck :) Love your Toyota man,It'll Love you Back.
@KevoRidesFit i was asking because my friend offerd to do em for me (hes bin short on cash thought id help em out a bit) so just wanted to make shure... some guy told me all i need is a small spacer real cheep just to drop the dif for the same reason if not it be too much stress so i just wanted to make shure, he told me its easy to do so i thought i could just get it when i had a chance and then put in on
haha ya dude you must be retarded to post some anti jeep stuff on a jeep video.. thats blasphemy around here dude... you probably do drive a ford like a ranger or something..
how does this 3.5" kit do on road? I plan on doin a 2" BB for now then putting the 3.5 RE super ride kit on later... Do ya'll think the BB would mess anything up? I know I'd have to do a sye, but maybe get control arm brackets..? What do ya say?
HELP! ive got a grand cherokee zj, and i was thinking about lifting it 4.5in, but i don't have the money for tires so i was thinking about just leaving the stock 28.6 tires on, i wanna know if i leave stock on will it create any problems in the long run, and also if i left stock on would i have to adjust my gear ratio?
no you wouldnt have to do the ration and if you leave stock with lift it will look funny and you wouldnt go through much mud well you can go through a good bit
It might be a little unstable around corners, and your good on the gear ratio... thats mostly for compensating for larger tires, or to squeeze out a little more torque in low range.
i put a 3and a half rubi rxpress on my 01 xj and the most confusing part was when i forgot to drill a new hole in the trac bar so my axle was sitting over way to far and that was the most frustrating part, but i also had to file down the nubbs on the new leafs because they were to long and sitting on my axle houseing. this was a pretty annoying process
Hey dude.. one question for you.. lol! i have a 95 xj.. and im planning to put a 4.5in liftkit of rough country.. but is it really difficult to install? im planning to install it myself! and some friends.. any suggestions? or any thing i should know before i do it? Its my only ride i have.. so i dont wanna risk it and something goes bad and then ii wont have any ride.. lol
Hey man i was in the same situation you are except 2000 xj did lift kit myself even though the most mechanical thing id ever done before was change the oil. only suggestion is to watch removing the rear shocks all four of my bolts broke on me and i ended up having to drill em out. Good luck
Lol.. it really sucks huh.. Im still thinkin of buying it.. this guy never replied.. lol.. and sucks more cuz im gonna start going to college again, and idont wanna mess something up then i cant drive it or something like that. it will sucks balls lol
ok im 15 and want one of these jeeps (in mexico l0l we go for vacation plus they are less strict on wat u can and cant drive) and i was wondering how much? and what brand would be good for a jeep like this ( alil newer)? want to save up! and by the way looks great
i found a 1990 cherokee 4x4 runs but needs work for about $1000 but thank god i have a spare XJ with a great engine. so i will need to do is swap engines, and ill have a great L6 4.0, but yeah mexico is very lenient on everything. lol. but the best bet is to look at little used car lots, and you can work deals out, but more then likely it will need some work.
Sweet video, all too familiar! I have an 88 xj with a rusty's long arm kit with 8in springs in front and 6in springs w/ 2in shackles rear. Why is it that you guys say Rusty's is for "pavement princesses"? Mine works great off road. Not trying to start any arguments, just looking for clarification and insight...
dont hold me to it but around 1,500 to 2,000. but alldepends on how good of lift and how quick they are. but i would do it yourself because it only took me a few hours for a spacer lift and im only 16! i have a 86 xj with 4x4. just give it some thought
rustys is more for looks and not functionability. go with Rubicon Express or Claytons offroad. and I didnt do a search for Rubicon Express when i found this video...I was looking for a Y-LINK system. So im not bashing rustys. if your running a pavement princess...Rustys couldnt be a better choice, they look great. for more serious applications, Rubicon Express, Claytons offroad OR a homebrew lift for all you FAB guys out there.
Bolts don't break on the XJ's you liar. Just kidding, I broke that same bolt most likely. I had to weld it back together 3 times to get it backed fully out. Then I had to cut it in half to get it out of the bracket because the weld was so thick lol. Good times.
There is no body lift for a Cherokee XJ, since it has a unibody structure; meaning: the body and the frame cannot be separated, since they are a unique piece altogether.
Had the same problem on my 2000 XJ. I ended up cutting out the broken stud and nut and welding in a complete new nut to the uni-body. Like how it turned out, Jeep looks good.
Nice job. I ended up breaking 3 of those leaf bolts, one in the front and both of the upper ones in the shackles... best tip: start putting your favorite penetrating oil (pb blaster, etc) a week or so before you do the lift! I ended up getting them out after welding many nuts and washers on the end of the bolt stumps...
Are you including the tools in that 1000? Cause I just found a Rough Country 4in Suspension kit for 450 for my Bronco II. A cherokee lift would not be much more.
i bought a 3 inch lift kit for my YJ since the new tires are hitting my fenders.. some kits come with lift tools.. i payed 750 for mine, were did u get yours?
hey i am about to put a 3.5 on my 96 was it a farely easy task besides the broken bolt? any help would be great, dont want to take it to the shop and get charged more then the lift cost you know
where do find kits for 700? i almost ordered a 3.5 for 1500 a few days ago
and to the man that made this....did you have to adjust the transfer case or drive shaft? i wanna put 3.5 on my XJ but a friend said i'd have to get a longer drive shaft or a slip yoke
Slip yoke eliminator is recommended, also recommended to drop the transfer case. Anything more than a couple inches usually causes vibrations from bad angles.
Great video im installing my RC 3" lift in 5 days and was wondering what INT record setting you used to make this time lapse as i would like to make a similar video

Sweet video, all too familiar! I have an 88 xj with a rusty's long arm kit with 8in springs in front and 6in springs w/ 2in shackles rear. Why is it that you guys say Rusty's is for "pavement princesses"? Mine works great off road. Not trying to start any arguments, just looking for clarification and insight...

does anyone know how much it cost to put a 3.5inch lift on a jeep cherokee sport? 1997 labor and parts?
cc123456789 2 years ago
dont hold me to it but around 1,500 to 2,000. but alldepends on how good of lift and how quick they are. but i would do it yourself because it only took me a few hours for a spacer lift and im only 16! i have a 86 xj with 4x4. just give it some thought
jeepsforlife86xj 2 years ago
probally about 400-500 bucks, you install it!

rustys is more for looks and not functionability. go with Rubicon Express or Claytons offroad. and I didnt do a search for Rubicon Express when i found this video...I was looking for a Y-LINK system.

Good times.

MazderMan2011 2 years ago
There is no body lift for a Cherokee XJ, since it has a unibody structure; meaning: the body and the frame cannot be separated, since they are a unique piece altogether.
ferchogs 2 years ago
First of all the Cherokee is a Unibody, can't body lift a unibody!
SpruceGoose99 2 years ago
whats the name of the song?nice lift you got there

man how are you gonna instal a sick lift kit but keep them shitty tires and rims?!
ndgoinalltheway 2 years ago
Had the same problem on my 2000 XJ. I ended up cutting out the broken stud and nut and welding in a complete new nut to the uni-body. Like how it turned out, Jeep looks good.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Poor Jeep!,was better before this is an aberration to the aesthetics of the jeep in the nineties!
spawnthecrazy 2 years ago

How Much Would It Cost to Install a 4 in. rough Country Lift Kit on my jeep cherokee ??? Around like how much ?
patriotsmo 2 years ago
do it urself around 1k
vetteburna 2 years ago
Are you including the tools in that 1000? Cause I just found a Rough Country 4in Suspension kit for 450 for my Bronco II. A cherokee lift would not be much more.
bowmaster24 2 years ago
i bought a 3 inch lift kit for my YJ since the new tires are hitting my fenders.. some kits come with lift tools.. i payed 750 for mine, were did u get yours?
vetteburna 2 years ago
sell your bronco 2 and get a bronco 1 or something better cuz no offense but the bronco 2 is a peice of shit
skiboarder4 2 years ago 2
Check out my bronco II walk around and tell me if you think that mine is a piece.

my luck it would be to tall to get out of garage lol and have to load the thing up with cement blocks to bare it down some lol.
ZackXJ 2 years ago 4
do you have to extend the steering shaft?
I have a 94 Bronco
saluki5711 2 years ago
im not 100% sure, but i dont think so
every lift i've seen either raises the body off the frame, in which case you may have to, or extends the suspension (which is better)
Bane7962 2 years ago
hey i am about to put a 3.5 on my 96 was it a farely easy task besides the broken bolt? any help would be great, dont want to take it to the shop and get charged more then the lift cost you know

where do find kits for 700? i almost ordered a 3.5 for 1500 a few days ago
and to the man that made this....did you have to adjust the transfer case or drive shaft? i wanna put 3.5 on my XJ but a friend said i'd have to get a longer drive shaft or a slip yoke
SpecialEdBMX102 2 years ago
Slip yoke eliminator is recommended, also recommended to drop the transfer case. Anything more than a couple inches usually causes vibrations from bad angles.
Jaytheredneck1 2 years ago
Great job, better when you do it your-self.
bulrydrdan 3 years ago
how much is a lift kit ?? can u get shops to install?
blakasassin1 3 years ago
Why would you pay a shop to install it when you can do it your self....lazy ass
bulrydrdan 3 years ago
risk fucking up my car i dont think so
blakasassin1 3 years ago
Hay at least you know your limitations. Some guys will go out and screw it all up because they think they can.
bulrydrdan 3 years ago
or if i had a friend that knew how to help me do it id do it with him but yeah
blakasassin1 3 years ago
not everyone has the tools or the space.
RonBrasco 2 years ago 2
Your right, but what would it cost for the lift and the labor for a shop to install the lift. You can buy a lot of tools for that.
bulrydrdan 2 years ago
im getting my 6.5 inch longarm lift for 2,000, and labor will be 500.
