  • I put an Evinrude 15 on the back of my bobcat. I had to build a skirt on the cockpit to keep it from swamping. (Like it did on it's maiden voyage lol) My top speed was 32mph. It literally scared the wits out of me!!! I subbed a wake once and was hit in the chest with the wave. It felt like a sandbag hitting me. The boat kept going and thanks to the custom skirt, although I did have to head back to the dock to bail 'er out.

  • YeeHaw !!! I built 2 Bobcat 8's .... beefed them up and gave them a coat of fibreglass and resin. Tough boat now. I fly it with a 7.5 Merc ..... fast enough for most NooBs.

  • thanks! I actually "submarined" the boat crossing some wake and pulled some seams apart. The boat was approaching the end of it's life span. I have since offered it up to the "fire gods" and replaced it with the Clarkcraft "Heckle". (See Twin Escape at 3 Mile Lake). Thanks for the hints.

  • 21mph is totally believable with this engine and prop. You could pick up a bit more speed by lifting the motor until it starts to cavitate and also by changine to a higher pitched prop.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • If you change the carburator on that motor, you'll have a 15hp motor. ;)

Also, did you try to kick the motor out a little? It might help with that "nose under" attitude it seems to have.

    :)

  • I'm aware of the carburator. I was told it was about $350. Given the cheap build of that "first attempt" at boat building, I won't do it on that one, but if I build number 3, I'll look into it more.

  • Sorry if I came across too critical. You've got a great hobby, and you're doing a great job with it. Keep us posted on your adventures this summer!

  • No problem. Will load clip of new boat as soon as the wind dies down for a test run

  • great little craft - what is your top speed and what is the engine size?

  • It has a stock Johnson 9.9. Top speed is 21 (so says the wakeboarder that was riding beside me last summer).
