hi robjinwny. i bought a 55inch gt30 last month.. i didnt run in the break in period, because i didnt really know about it... but a japanese guy working for panasonic told me just to watch high quality blu-rays for the first 60 hours and u will be fine.. i did that.... tv looks incredible, now i am just avoiding watching anything in the black side lines..
For those looking for more info - to maximize this color breakin you want to do custom settings. Below is a link to a forum that has the colors to download along with the settings for the breakin and the post settings. highdefjunkies . -Panasonic-Settings-Issues-Thread
What does this "breaking in" do for thie plasma tv? Thanks. I'm thinking of getting a plasma but worried about burned-in images and screen degradation over time vs an LED.
It simply breaks in the individual pixel phosphors a bit. Allows them to "settle" a little bit, and become a little less sensitive to prolonged high-intensity video material. It's not an absolute necessity, but if you have the patience and time, I would still recommend it for a plasma. Either that, or run material without black bars and still "sports" tickers and still channel logos for the first several days of use. Good luck!
A break-in procedure is not claimed by Panasonic, but it certainly doesn't hurt. I had never seen any form of plasma burn-in until recently, where a friend's dad ran a brand new 50" Samsung plasma using 4:3 content (black bars on the sides of screen) for months, very rarely running 16:9 content. Now, there is a slight discoloration along the sides. Not saying a break-in procedure would've resolved this, but I would still recommend it. My TV's picture is still perfect.

Where can I get the same 'demo' like you have there? Or where can I get a break in DVD? I just bought the Panasonic TX-P46G20 and I want to have the phosphors broken in with care. Thanks in advance!
did you get this from evan angelide? if so i have the same one
but havent used it yet do u keep putting this on repeat i have the ps3 and was wondering how too keep it running and what setting would i put my tv on?
Yes, there is some of the typical plasma "buzz" on the VT20. From my experience, there are no "buzz-free" plasmas, but make no mistake, even with low-volume viewing, the buzzing is inaudible and not a problem.
I recently bought a new plasma, and downloaded the same dvd, I think. We noticed that on some of the lighter colours there is a faint difference in the colour on the screen. Almost as if there is a bar across the centre of the screen that is a little darker than the tp and bottom. I've run the screen wipe for an hour and then went bac to the DVD but its' the same. Did you notice anything like this when you played the DVD? We haven't played any Letterboxed videos yet.
@alloriginal seems maybe the panel is bad while running these slides its a good way to check the quality of the panel and to also check for dead pixels, the panel should be uniform . Go to avsforum.com they have complete instructions on how to run the slides and which picture settings to use while you run them, i would also suggest you return the set and get another and please do a lot of research on the forum before doing anything to the tv.
@demorik Ok, there wasn't any problem at all. What I noticed is that it was simply a minute difference in each sub panel. It was only visible with some full screen colours. I checked several panels at the store and they were all the same. Funny thing is I was the only one who could actually see them at the store, no one else could. The panel works fine, picture is beautiful, and I've broken it in for around 200 hours with the dvd now.
hi, your video caught my attention, hope your enjoying your new TV, i just found myself a new Pioneer Elite 151, and ill need to break it in, and seems you got a good dvd for it, where did you download it?
Thanks. The TV looks great and I have not had any problems. Fantastic black levels and motion resolution which leaves my Sony XBR4 LCD way behind. A little IR now and then, but rare and washes away with the next scene.
What you are seeing are still images set on an SD card and played through the Panny's SD card slot (slideshow mode, looped). YouTube prevents links in posts, so just Google "plasma break in dvd images" and click on the topmost result.

Did you run this break in for 100 hours STRAIGHT, or did you run it five hours at a time and turn it off, and then restart again later?
Hopefully my Panasonic 50 inch is arriving tomorrow so I'd really appreciate any reply

@wawahwario
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Yes, I ran it straight through. It was a bit lengthy, and as some say, not necessary, but I'm glad I took the time.
robjinwny 1 year ago
@robjinwny It's alright, still waiting on the brick to deliver over a month later...
Thanks for the reply.

@wawahwario
I ran it continuously, day and night.
