  • this is good american culture

  • joni goes off tune! its unacceptable! her and neil dont belong with the three! the first half rocks, its better than the origanal in my opinion

  • Does he say "Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart" ?

That is very beautiful if thats right.

  • @tony9L9L Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart and I love you

  • @hallcert Thank you, thats stunning, I should be working not swooning over this beautiful music.

  • this ones for you jerry klune although your not with us anymore physically your memory lifes on in all those that you touched in this life i know your listening to this getting as high as a kite and wondering why joni mitchell is butchering one of your favorite songs rest in peace my friend

  • looks like Joni's out of her element. She doesn't typically share vocals with anyone. Still's had been doing his part for 5 years, hell it was his song. David and Graham, they know it inside out and every move the other makes. I can't tell who Joni was using as a reference for a third up. Not sure she can tell either. Just don't forget, she wrote "Woodstock". So they're all in this one together.

  • I like Joni Mitchell, but here she sounds almost as bad as Yoko Ono screeching with John Lennon. Also the sound man had her mike cranked up way to high so her voice overpowers the others. Not the way singing harmony should work.

  • Dedicated to my sister Judy who passed away last month...

  • What happened at 6:54? Did Graham try to walk off-stage and Joni noticed and brought him back?

  • markism69 is right! This had great potential but it went horribly wrong! Joni was having a bad song day!

  • what a masterpiece...

  • Joni Mitchel is one of my favorites and I absolutely love her.. but not here. Her voice cuts through and does not blend with the boys and she actually is singing out of key here here, something Ive never seen her do. Oh well, Stills was on fire in this one.

  • @marKism69 Joni is legend ,but she can't sing with the boys ,,she is genius songwriting and personal ,,so alone and real ,she is an inventer

  • ahh the opening to wipe out

  • No matter what version came out, they are still part of the greatest musicians of all time.........

  • bla bla bla. the end. hmmmmmmm....hmmmmmmmmm.......hmmmmmmmmm bla bla. hmmmmmm Oh I'm so ugly with my hair mustache and beard. I'm so graceful oooga oga caca.plinkity plunkity grimace squint grin. . wheeeeeeee! shake wiggle shuba shuba bang bang plunkity plunk.wigglity wigglity plukity pluke aaiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! And my fans are so hi.

  • @Wanda7771 You need some help getting back to your Justin Bieber videos? I can copy and paste a link for you

  • bla bla bla. the end. hmmmmmmm....hmmmmmmmmm.......hmmmmmmmmm bla bla. hmmmmmm

  • bla bla bla. the end

  • Getting past the music , I am personaly enjoying watching a group of very talented group of people who above all else , are enjoying each others company and friendship on stage :)

  • This is what is cool about YouTube. This is a less than stellar performance that normally would never see the light of day on TV or a DVD, but we got to see these classic musicians showing that they are human.

  • I love this song and I love CSN&Y but that was a trainwreck! I would have much rather had Young do the high part, not Joni. Just because she wrote "Woodstock" she was allowed to butcher that for them. Even if Stills was "out there" at least he can sing and play guitar! I'm pretty sure there was more involved than just cocaine. Maybe opiates & dust?

  • worst video ever!!!! :( I still love them

  • For those of you who leave your Health class unsatisfied, not knowing what Cocaine is really like, just watch this video.

  • @ProfessorSudz

Genius comment- still laughing and enjoying-----well done!

  • Comment removed

  • i love the way this feels, it was how i felt by 1977, star wars just came out, and i discovered great cinema and music from thereon

  • crap

  • I was enjoying this until 3:50. Off to another version.

  • worst back up EVER!!!!! Hope this is just a drunkard dream...

  • I wish I could wear a tash like that

  • It isn't Joni. Sound guy must have been sleeping. Or just a dumbass. Shitty mix.

  • Joni not needed here, really

  • Holy shit, I love it.

  • Not Joni.. It's the mix.. Her mic is to loud, or her voice is just to powerful

  • @noblueskys too powerful.... she sings like a coyote!!

  • Damn, I´ll stick to the studio version.

  • Joni a might (pitchie) there...as usual!

  • Joni is awesome here - I mean it's a pretty off the cuff jam and she adds a totally new flavour to the song. What about the note she sings to end the line "she's so free/how can you catch the sparrow?" No-one else would go there, only Joni with her natural aversion to perfect cadences.

  • Yes I agree Joni was not that good here

  • "Fear is the Lock & Laughter is the Key to your Heart"-

    nice

  • neil young is boring with fuk all talent.jonis just as played

  • Funny. Brutal. Awesome at the same time for historical purposes!. Can tell Joni Mitchel is KILLING Steve Stills! Ha! Back stage must have been fun! Snif sniff! Joni hits some brutal notes and knows it too! ha ha! Really.........she's got no business bein out there! ha

  • The performance is an ordeal to listen to, the whole way through, even before Joni stepped in. i kept thinking, this has to get better... and then after nearly 8 minutes of torture the end is cut off!!!

  • come on man!! where's the final part???

  • Thanks for killing the song, Joni.

  • As for Joni's being there... A Couple of things: First and foremost, by this point she had slept with all of them, more than once (to say the least) and had a long-term relationship with Nash. She was also a Musician they all admired and looked to for approval... so they never would have said "No" to Her - and as much as I love Her, Dear God, this was a TERRIBLE idea!! Stills and Crosby are so wasted... Stills in particular is basically out of it!

  • you can tell no one was happy with Joni being on stage, boy did she throw them off key, you can see it in their faces. yikes, whose idea was this???

  • they're sleeeeeeeeewed!

  • there is a god

  • JONI!!!! GO AWAY!!!!!

  • i really feel like her amp was too loud relative to the others...but she's not at her best, for sure.

  • They cut off the best part!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn you youtube.

  • she's an incredible lyricist but should not join the boys on stage. their voices don't blend well.

  • I love Joni Mitchell but....

  • Ok, she didn't exactly ruin it, but I've never heard her so unsure. It's not her song, fair enough, but she's all over the place, to be honest. Not a shining moment...

  • Thank God she wasnt at Woodstock to ruin that version!

  • A miracle that any of these people made it out alive! Now they are are healthy and sober and wonderful, yes even Joni. This is painful to watch

  • GOT DAMN Steve wrote a hit with this one

  • i couldn't like this video because it's at 420 and it's so fitting lol

  • Joni Mitchell always got on my nerves...and here, come on, She does not bring anything to the song. Which of the 4 was banging her at the time ?

  • @essertpitay

    Nash

  • @ChrisPawelski poor guy...!

  • "we're probably going to do most of the ones your yelling for...........we like em too...."

  • woodstock version is epic

  • betrumka - moron - Joni Mitchell wrote the song "woodstock" - clueless loser

  • betrumka - moron

  • This is your brain on drugs and alcohol....

You are frickin' Crosby, Still and Nash! You performed at Woodstock for God's sake! And then you bring out two others singers, one of which is definitely out of it (Neil Young), and the other one (Joni Mitchell) has a totally different style voice??? They sounded bad before the two additions came on to the stage. In fact I had regressed embarrassment for the three guys, I didn't think it could get worse.... but then somehow it did...

  • nice to know that pink floyd did not hold a monopoly on ahole fans of the 70's

  • Tequila and cocaine is ok if you can play...not recommended as an aid!

  • Great group great song Joni wasn't mixed in right . Her mike was way too hot. The technician was asleep.

  • just looking for bros that knew MAC, want input for a good book, height ashbury and china town, berkley, south park, fishermans wharf, san rafael, was my blood, need to colaberate with people that knew him, i miss him and need to put the story on paper...he was cool, call me at 3184780177, answers to nutso too, knarles barkley's crazy is me but still trying....lock and load....love

  • is that neal playing the 12 string?

  • Joni is a wonderful addition to this song -- so many variations make it all the more enjoyable! Stills TOTALLY rocks his voice on this one -- love it!!!!!

  • Joni is a wonderful addition to this song -- so many variations make it all the more enjoyable! Stills TOTALLY rocks his voice on this one -- love it!!!!!

  • Never saw Stephen Stills so drunk, ahahah, reeeeally drunk

and look at David Crosby´s face at 4:05 looking to Joni, ahahahah

They should give some stills part for her, because about harmony she does not know shit

Stephen is so wasted he almost can´t play, only sing

  • Is it me or is Joni Mitchell out of her class tryng to sing with them? Shes clearlty out of her league never was a big fan of Mitchell though her singing is atrocious!

  • Very Honest pervformance these guys were incredible this is one of my favorite songs great songwriters and arrangers of melody ya dont see that anymore~!!

  • IF YOU WANT TO RAPE A CSNY SONG, ALL YOU'VE GOT TO DO IS ASK OF JONI MITCHELL!

  • Stills missed a second 1:14-15 and apologized on 1:22.. sooo funny!!!

  • @Pan3405 good call

  • To me, this is Heaven

  • @ljkw77 For me it' started as heaven and ended as..hell after the contribution of Joni!

  • get the bitch off, she spoils it

  • @davidhaythornthwaite OOooooh, still talking tough you little BITCH. You still use sexual swear words on childrens channels! So, do you still dish out racist abuse? See you out and about in Lancashire, you gay little aids infested BITCH!

  • @davidhaythornthwaite soooo glad to read.. that i'm not the only one with this opnion..

  • I think Joni was being a woman. If I am not mistaken this is when Stills broke with Judy Collins (this song being the description of their romance and break-up) and maybe Joni was worried about him. He does make a few comments during the song like, "I got nothin'left to lose." Just a thought.........................

  • @Styxx7690 "I got nothin to loose"ment in this case... Joni You ruined the song... Can it get any worse?

  • joni spoils it, but csn harmonies are ace on this number, send shivvers dn spine!

  • she is judy collins

  • Wow how cool to see Joni singing with them here x x x x

  • @thinwhiteduke11 it's not cool.. she had better be left behind the stage.. and shut up!!

  • @Pan3405

Wow! Such venom! What do you care that I like her? Wise up!

  • @thinwhiteduke11 I care.. Joni messed up... again... !!!

  • Joni Mitchell sounds tone deaf here. Crazy

  • Graham Nash is a god when it comes to singing.

  • @daviegarden Or at least a barefoot archangel. Fantastic ear - ever since the Hollies.

  • i was at this concert! great day, but pre large screens and as we were not near the front they all looked like matchstick men!!

  • Just cannot beat their Woodstock performance. It was so much more honest and they gave it everything they had.

  • Yeah, poor Joni's arrival screwed with their groove.

  • This mix quality is responsible for most of the issues in the video (clearly not meant to be a professional video)... especially with Joni.

Joni is one of the most under-rated artists of our time... she was an inspiration to so many artists, including CSNY... her tunings surely inspired Stills to create this masterpiece, and having Joni join in should be seen as the tribute it was.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • @michael52250 i think Bruce Palmer(Buffalo Springfield) had more to do with the tuning in this song. Joni Mitchell is awesome.....but she really ruins this number. just my two cents....

  • @michael52250 You pay too much credits for this lady... She surely inspired people.. but don't forget.. it was also the other way round.. In this case she spoiled/ruined a delicate voice-formation flying.. And in fact.. her voice irritates me a lot! To sing harmonies.. the most difficult job is to find the right harmony in the mid section.. singing the highest note is the easiest part!! Doing the things that Crosby and Still do pays my respect.

  • @Pan3405 I could not agree more, she really ruins this by trying to over sing and she isn't even hitting the notes right.

  • @Pan3405 You nailed it man. A lot of the time, you can't even hear David Crosby. But you sure do notice if he's not there. Truly gifted singer's & musician's. I just wish more group's took the time to hone and polish their music.

  • @MWL4466 Absolutely!! Here in the Netherlands we can only dream of concerts of these 4 guys!! I can still remember my friend showed an illegal lp of this concert.. The noise of people and the bad recordings.. I found it fantastic.. I still remember the pictures in black and white in our papers!! I was a kid 15 years old...

  • @Pan3405 Greeting's from Canada !! I'm raising a glass of your finest lager now....

  • stills was brilliant, unfortunately when mitchell joined in, it went totally downhill, that was hideous

  • I hate to say it, but this is a terrible mes.

  • @MrAndersoncouncil I blame Joni.. she caused this mess.. I hate her voice that always sounds the same.. in every song she wrote..

  • @Pan3405 Yes. I actually like Joni - by herself - But her voice not only does not mesh here, it mutilates the song.

  • what a performance

  • their harmonies are amazing

    i love this song

i hate myself for missing their concert last summer in toronto :(

  • this is a really great way to wake up

  • Compare this version to the Woodstock performance.. God damn cocaine...

  • wow I love Stephen Stills voice. Thank you Crosby, Stills, and Nash for the great songs! What would we have done without these songs.

  • Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now!!! Something inside says that I have your secret...Tuesday morning pls be gone I'm tired of you!! I've got an answer...I going to fly away......Change my life....Be my.....

  • exelent but only Crosby, stills and nash...here Mitchell sucks and forget the lyrics

  • the amount of drugs involved in this performance is staggering. Still amazing

  • just wow how good im 29 this shit get me every time

  • 3 very talented people right there

  • I like male voices better, but shes really good

  • It says young in the info...but he wasnt there...

  • @Noseheros No, he's there. He just doesn't do a whole lot and looks like hes stoned out of his mind. He's to Joni's left, sitting down.

  • @fatcampguitarist I see! Yeah he comes in later with her, thanks for pointing that out! didnt notice it

  • I think Joni's mic was too loud, she was just harmonizing, leave the poor girl alone damnit. LOL

  • Hells yeah!!!

  • Do you know how hard it is do what Stephen does with the 'drummed' intro here? Very. Bloody. Hard. Trust me, I've tried ;) - Awesome moment - doesn't get much better than this :)

  • @FragCashJared Stephens the bomb, it is bloody hard, I will keep trying

  • Joni Mitchell is really shit here, I mean in the Last Waltz she's alright, but she should never join CSN&Y ever.....

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d Jeez shes great! I think her mic's just too loud, I mean she wrote that song they covered "Woodstock"

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d totally agree!

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d joni's great but she shit it up here... what a way to ruin csn and I like her... so sad..

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d

Kinda a Yoko moment here w/ Mitchell

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d I agree. She ruins the song.

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d

yeah you are right about joni. she is in her own category.

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d:

I suspect that Joni is merely unrehearsed here; as well as in a different octave. Listen to her albums; she is a MUCH better singer than you're giving her credit for.

  • @GeorgenotSmith That's why I said she's really shit here..

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d She just sat in (she was goin w/Nash at the time) "join CSN&Y".....she`d get a big laugh outta that one. BTW...your name`s appropriate.

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d couldnt agree more. she ruined the song.

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d ~ The audience didn't seem to mind that much. What is so funny is that after Graham had a chat and probably said, 'Stick to the ooos and aaahs' Joni decides to join in and well the rest is a bit of fabulous human history. :)

  • actually I think Joni Mitchell was incredible.

  • it was great.......until joni mitchell showed up. thanks for posting

  • The Woodstock version of this tune is better IMO.

  • Joni Mitchell is a superb singer, and I love her voice but she does not fit in well with the others. However, I really enjoy listening to Stills singing ANY song!

  • Joni's voice gave me a headache.

  • SOMEONE SHOULD SHOOT JONI MITCHELL IN THE FACE....PLEASE.....I CANT GET DIRTY....MY MOM WILL KILL ME........FML

  • . .uh . .I think those guys are stoned!

  • Pretty sloppy....but you have to remember in those days "hippie royalty" would just show up unrehearsed and jam. That being said, there is a such thing as too much harmony and Joni trying to add a 4th part doesn't sound good....and they know it.

But hey, those were fun times and we didn't go to these concerts for perfection, we went coz we love the artists and wanted to see them doing their thing on stage.

  • joni ruined hte song for fuck sakes

it sounds like a dying cat

  • @metchella Agreed. I was listening but not watching and thought it was a fan singing or something.

  • joni did not rehearse before joining...

she is very good in her own right.

  • where is the ending?

  • crosby wrote that song for judy collins after there brake up

  • Comment removed

  • @barstoolguru Steven Stills wrote the song, about Judy Collins, whom he had a very big crush on, but they stayed only friends. They never had a romantic relationship.

  • lol @ 4:15 joni fucks stills up

  • Okay, forget it! They are all just being totally silly! ...and quite well aware of their actions...they are making a point, and you were supposed to ask them what was up! Even Joni Mitchell is horrid! ;)

  • I grew up with these guys, musically, that is. Neil Young is 9 days older than me. I never get tired of their music. Their songs still move me emotionally. gerden238, I just want to thank you for sharing their music on you tube. If you check out my site, you'll find I do a few of their songs myself.

  • I've been a fan of them since the 1970's, but really only through the radio. The richness and intensity of Stills' voice as evidenced in this video is really something to behold even this many years later. Seeing someone actually play an instrument and sing from the heart again is rejuvenating in today's musical landscape.

  • You're right... after Joni Mitchell joins in, it's hard to listen to it. The guy on the board wasn't doing his job. Should've turned her down much more than he did. She was overpowering them. I would've kicked her off the stage!

  • hard to keep listening after Joni joins in- maybe they didnt have state of the art monitor systems lik we do now and she couldnt hear herself?- great up to that point-real talent always shines thru!

  • I like this version but the only thing that stops it from being a great version is joni

  • that was funny when stills was being a goof ball and joni almost looses it! lol!

  • even if their are some pitch issues this concert would have been amazing to see.

  • No puedo dejar de escucharlo cada dia,

  • best intro ever

  • Genial,!que voces,que contrastes,que matices!!!!!!!!

  • Guess I never knew that Mama Cass Elliot introduced or suggested that Graham Nash should join David Crosby and Stephen Stills. What a intoduction...thank you Cass!!

  • I think the mis-conception about their drug-use was that onstage they were totally wasted. No they weren't. If they were, they wouldn't be able to perform. Sure, the cracks were beginning to show. But, they were still delivering, better than most, and it was compelling viewing. All their increasing drug-habits were doing was stunting their creative juices while feeding the ego-monster instead. The song-well was drying up, that's what 'doom' Neil Young could smell a-coming.

  • 5 seconds in, i thumbed it up

  • I love their imperfection.

  • Wow... they are soo goood! ^,^ But yeah... they're definitely more plastered than a basement wall! I give them extra points for being able to play/sing at all... @_@

  • is that Joni Mitchell? im sorry but sge has no right being there. she fucked everything up. this really sucked.

  • @imthefrogman I agree. Absolutely. Graham is being such a good sport about it though....
