I been thinking on doing a similar project but using an 8hp briggs and stratton engine I have on hand.
Also you might ant to run a speed doubler on the alternator since they are more efficient at higher speeds most are happy at around 5000 to 10,000 rpm unless you are using some kind low speed PMA alternator.

i don't think it is true hybrid unless the motor shuts off when it doesn't need power and turns back on when it does.
