  • no, there's another section missing besides the vivats, - the quartet (or semi-chorus) O pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

  • I love Worcester Cathedral

  • I'm Head Chorister of Worcester Cathedral Choir now and absolutely adore I Was Glad - we all do. So much so in fact that we've adopted it as our unofficial signature piece and sing it at the last Evensong of every year. Seeing as though this year is my turn to leave it's taken on an entirely new meaning. Despite the gut-busting chords and the upbeat words there will be tears. Happy tears, but tears aplenty. (I'm Head Girl Chorister by the by... not that that means anything less.)

  • I miss a part in these piece! why they do that? This anthem is already to short when you sing de full piece!

  • I believe there is a section which is only supposed to be sung if the King/Queen is present.

  • @notyobs Quite so, the vivat.

  • @notyobs - - yes there is, it's 2 pages of music, and if it is not needed, you just turn an extra page and the next part fits seamlessly in, you would not know anything was missing :)

  • Magnificent performance! Thank you

  • Had the privilege of singing this very piece with the cathedral choir when my choir visited from Worcester, MA this summer. One of the biggest sounds I've been a part of.

  • actually it was Barstow's Blessed City, but the two have a remarkably similar feel, eh?

  • @eljusticiero6 Hi, I was there with you! I was the Worcester Cathedral Head Chorister at the time. It was in the 3 Choirs Festival, and you guys came over from the other Worcester.... great time, that.. I personaly prefer the Bairstow, but who's counting?

  • I see english choirboys often sitting while singing (?). Five points for this video !

  • im a chorister at w cath voller choir

  • this is beautiful music and reminds me so much of my time as a treble soloist. I wish to thank you for posting such wonderful music.

  • i love singin this piece one of my favourites along with naylor's vox dicentis!!!!

  • I bet you do!! Wish I could :-(

  • I don't think it should be slower than this. I've sung it at this tempo all my life.

  • You LUCKY thing you!!!! Wish I'd been in a choir like that and had sung music like this. Oh how I wish.

  • I used to be in the cathedral choir but left a couple of years before this was filmed. This was one of my favs, great - thanks for posting

  • while I have heard it slower in more generous accoustics, I don't think it is unusually quick

  • yes definitly taking it a bit quicker than usual, but still sounds good

  • I heard my first Evensong in England here,, wonderfull,, still love it!! Pity they're going to destroy the wonderfull organ:(

Hope to see more of worcester!!

    Yours,

    Leo

  • they're not destroying the organ they're only replacing it; and they have now replaced it and believe me it is a hell of a lot better.

You should go and visit the cathedral again and listen to it!

  • Well said Ashley - the new organ is AMAZING and great fun to sing with! Especially for things like Walker's Dance My Heart and the classics like any Howells or Stanford canticles..

    Love it!

  • If I remember correctly the cathedral organ as it was in the 1970s was highly unusual with some very heavy pedal stops. I expect they were removed before this latest rebuild?

  • can't hear the alto at all!!!

  • You think it should be slower?

  • good - taking at a fair lick however! Very nice.
