The first episode of SHnY was so odd and off-beat that I almost skipped the rest of the series. Really glad I didn't as its one of the best I've seen in years.

Needless to say, this battle was one of my favorite high points. :)

Ryoko was saying this in a reverse sped up kanji: She knows that Yuki loves Kyon but is unaware of it. That explains why yuki is more loyal to kyon than haruhi :D

1. that was just a spell with a hidden message. if she figured it out, she might've denied it and not have said anything... she has the ability to hide and seclude emotions i guess?

2. That reverse sped up kanji was the incantation that caused many spears to form all heading towards kyon and her... and her response... canceling out as many as she can and then... using her body as a shield to kyon. she was never a direct person so that could be her reply. ^^

It's true that her name is on the back of her shoes, but that's a common practice in Japan. While in school, you wear different shoes than you do outside to keep the school cleaner.

A friend of mine told me that her high school uniform required a specific style of indoor shoes, and at the store she bought her uniforms, she got her name stitched on the back of her shoes. It tends to keep shoes from getting lost, or mixed up with your classmates, who are all wearing identical pairs...
