  • I love hte early VF's a LOT more than the later garbage. They actually look like something the military would produce. Minimum nuber of moving parts, simple, rugged, reliable.

The Macross 7 is one of hte worst offenders.

  • and the funny thing is that the VF-0 is the WORST variable fighter, its a sluggish toy compared to the YF-29 Durandal.

  • So....as a general rule......Anime and Realism is generally not possible?

  • You've heard of supermaneuverable? Yeah, supermaneuverable can go fuck itself.

  • at 0:50 i Love that war cry.

  • Love how Kawamori just retcons the F G B levers from the original series.

He don't give a fuck. LOL.

  • No human could withstand the manouvers they pull of in Macross. I still love it tough.

  • @Soronarr

thats why the early planes are difficult to fly and beat the shit out of the pilot. the later models have gravitational dampeners that nullify G-forces.

  • HOW THE HELL THEY FLY WITHOUT STABLIZERS!?!?!?

  • ALPHA AS FUCK

  • I doubt the human race will be able to make something this technically advanced in my lifetime. It's not that we are not capable of make a fighter this advanced. We cannot make something like this until we get along as a species. We need unity, too bad an alien space ship didn't crash on earth in 1999.

  • @Iffy350

you don't need unity, you need brains, resources and a government that wont harass you for petty political squabbles like bean counters. if funded properly, can make stuff like soldier exo-armor, flying will take time. for stuff like augment power, check stuff out like hydraulics, just look at a construction vehicle or the brakes of a car or motorcycle. Physically and theoretically, it's possible. The question of 'when' is much closer then people may think =D.

  • Lul@ pretty much infinite ammo missile spraying.

  • @tehnewblife Large number of missiles, sure, but hardly infinite: Nora's SV-51 fired off 16 missiles (two sets of four from each of two wing-mounted missile pods) with no sign that she had additional missiles to offer.

  • @scopeeyevideo Well, it wasn't Nora's SV-51, but you know what I mean. :)

  • I lost the game.

  • xD i saw this at least a 1000 times and i still like to watch it Macross ftw^^

  • フォッカー流石です、バルキリーが踊っているようだ。

  • Nice clip.. As for all the technical talk, " dudes chill and enjoy "

  • Im sure most of you who are watching this are some form of engineer, who became engineer due to child fantasy with machinery, electronics and computers. How about starting an OPEN SOURCE PROJECT for designing and fabricating a PROTO-Small Scale Engineering sample??

  • Why not write a letter to Northrop Grumman?

  • Roy Focker vs Isamu Disen!?

  • @shinsonic12 Roy Focker, definitely.

  • i wish they remake the original Macross with today's animation technology, sigh.....

  • roy foker rules..........id like to see roy vs max

  • You never really see in the past movies and episodes how they control the VF's when they transform...pretty neat.

  • It was my general impression that the SV-51 was a better atmospheric craft than the VF-0 because the latter was specifically designed to fight the Zentradi in space, as opposed to human-led secessionist movement on earth. Still, in a matched fight, my money's still on the Phoenix because its transformation sequence is faster.

  • 0:56. Steel on target.

  • Roy Focker owns all.

  • Popular culture entertainment tends to take things and dumb them down. Suffice it to say that just because it can "hit the brakes and let them fly right by" doesn't automatically mean it's a superior aircraft. As a matter of fact, without rapid high-G response (and pilot tolerance to this degree, which is impossible), it's no more than a fancy Harrier and can be shot down by modern AAMs all the same. As for the lasers targeting missiles? Feasible, but cheap; could apply to any jet.

  • @GoldLeader881 yeah at face value it may not seem impressive, but don't write it off so easily, who knows what kind of advantages a machine like this could have, ingenuity makes the impossible possible (and practical)

  • I'm guessing to make this work IRL you'd need something to be highly maneuverable in all modes (fighter, gerwalk, battroid), some tough ass armor, some kind of system to transform on the drop of a dime, something to withstand the Gs from being able to transform on the drop of a dime and for flight, and some ultra advance fire control system.

    *SIGH* Only in my dreams...

  • This is unreal, why isn't this program more popular?

  • @hamace harmony gold(robotech guys) can block Macross from getting to the states so they keep pushing out more robotech even though robotech started off using Macross and 2 other anime.

  • @179107199999 I think I heard of that. WHat a shame...good stuff.

  • Love the transformation sequence! This OVA was so awesome!!! Wish they would redo the original series with this state-of-the-art animation!

  • Clooney is too old too. Roy is supposed to be in his 30s and blonde.

  • clint eastwood as roy fokker lol

  • Nah, he's too old. George Clooney might work, though.

  • roy is a bad ass mofo

  • lol firefox good movie. Remember that scene where he was flying low and increasing speed? lol. Macross zero is an awesome show.

  • and that's the mothafucka that got double ax handled to the head and died?

Damn you clash of the bionoids. damn you and your corny HK dubbing to hell!!!

  • actually, part of that scene is missing. Clash of the Bionoids leaves out the massive chest kick that crushes the cockpit. he lasted long enough to gatling the bad guy in the back before going splody all over the bay

  • I did not know that.

Still though, that mothafuckin SV-51 is the baddest fuckin macross related plane since the Alpha from Sentinels/ Mospaeda.

    I want one.

  • I'm more partial to the YF-19/VF-19A myself, but to each their own lol

  • sv-51 reminds me of the mig 31 from firefox.

the vf-19 (and the 21) seems like it should be in yukikaze.

  • more like Yukikaze should be in Macross lol. Plus came out 8 years before Yukikaze

  • Yeah, I'll give you that.

  • Probably because booth are from Shoji Kawamori...

  • Hm. Learn somethin everyday.

  • Yeah, that one has the best aeronautic design to suit the role of a VF. The forward swept wings scoop in air to give it more lift allowing it to recover from a stall more quickly (the only drawback is that twisting forces will try to rip the wings off, which is why forward swept wings are made of composites instead of metal).

  • The most sophisticated and expensive military aircraft now in existance would never stand a chance against even a trial-production variable fighter.

  • Heh. I could see that.

Oh hey, F-35 B. You can hover in midair? That's cool. I can TRANSFORM INTO A MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT.

  • @pennsyr1 I wouldn't say that, it's takes the pilot to make the machine, not the machine to make the pilot.

  • @Fieryone233 I agree with your assertion that a pilot's skill is a major attribute, but the sheer physical and technological superiority of the craft is also key, and can't be discounted. It's that factor that I'm commenting on.

An ace in a WW2 prop plane isn't going have any plausible chance of taking down a typical military aviator flying an F-18. Variable Fighters as they're portrayed are as far beyond modern jets as modern jets are beyond their respective predecessors.

  • @pennsyr1 I will agree with that, but unlike a Jet to Prop, A VF-1S and a F-22 are about the same on the Technology level. Granted the VF-1S has some nice tricks that put it ahead of the F-22, as long as you have a pilot who know his craft and can handle it. He'll still put up a good fight, and might possibly when the duel.

  • @Fieryone233 A VERY solid argument, compadre! Though, I'd think that a craft capable of utilizing three operationally-distinct physical forms, plus enduring the aerodynamic, thermal, and impact stresses incurred during this extreme usage, goes well beyond the likes of the F-22s technological level.

It's the performance versatility. Just by the nature of what they are, VFs have so many nasty tricks up their mechanized sleeve that modern planes would have immense trouble counteracting.

  • @pennsyr1 Oh yes Performance Versatility is exactly what would make the VF-1S or in this case the VF-0, have a significant advantage over the F-22 or any other modern plane at the time of their development.

  • @Fieryone233 Just wanted to add one more thing to the point you made. This video is actually a good example of the importance of a pilot's skill.

According to the official Macross story, the SV-51 is a better tactical combat craft than the VF-0, but as the clip shows, Roy's superior skill allowed him to succeed in the engagement, despite his use of a slightly inferior machine.

  • @pennsyr1 Ahh ok, I still haven't seen Macross Zero, just some clips like this, I figured the SV-51 was about the same as the VF-0. I should get around to watching it.

  • how long does it actually take a VF to transform in combat??? I'm just wonderin but i know that its gotta be less than 10 seconds or else the pilots gonna get fried.

  • Most specification sheets for VFs that I've read state roughly 1-3 seconds for transformations. Insanely fast for something so complex and massive.

  • It's interesting, I read somewhere that in auto tranformation mode from fighter to Battroid it takes about 3 seconds... but in manual mode, it takes like .3 seconds! I wonder if it was a typo.

  • If you watch, you see the transformation in slow-motion as fanservice then see it in realtime afterwards: It's about half a second, using the inertia to push the major body-plates about.

A lot of people don't notice that.

  • Good catch.

  • got hit by multiple gun shots ...thats what i call "owned"....

  • Thrust Vectoring Owns The Sky! This Thing can Turn on a Dime, Macross Zero Style!!

  • even the -22 cant do that!(and yes it has thrust vectoring

  • The first time i saw this all my hair stood up!

Wish there was a live action movie! (NOT directed by Bay though)

  • weak sound!!!

    repost with louder audio!!!1

  • oh so true

  • The VF-0's transformation is smexy :)

  • kick ass!!

  • Aegis Focker. Represent

  • That's Roy Focker.

  • Roy focker is the best but he died in battle. Hikaru Ichijo is my idol.

  • And Basara :) But still Max roxx ^_^

  • You guys forgot Isamu Alva Dyson

  • yea its max

  • Roy Fokker is the #1 Pilot of Macross... =)

  • macross zero is really beautifull

    see it!!

  • Macross Zero is the best Macross so far with the CGI valkyries
