  • I'm too cool to choose one or the other, so I use an 81 in the bridge and a blackout in the neck. Such a bamf.

  • blackouts sound sexier and fuller

  • Ahhh FUCK!!!! I was listening to this with headphones and now I'm fucking deaf because of the last 10 seconds... damn it man, why did you do that?!

  • Tone is in your fingers,no pickup will ever disguise that. I use the Luke set by EMG and Im quite happy with it.

  • Whats wrong with this demo, the volume is so low, i have to stick my ears on my ipad

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO INSALL A EMG WITH A SEYMORE PICKUP TOGETHER

  • @savageblue25

It doesn't matter what name brand it is, a pickup is a pickup.

  • @TurkeyTuck pick ups have more quallity than others

  • @savageblue25

I wasn't talking about it like that, I was telling him that it won't interfere with the guitar if the two pickups are different name brands. Pickups and guitars aren't like video games and consoles, if you get what I mean.

  • @TurkeyTuck so no matter wat pickup. i can use a emg and a seymore duncan

  • @savageblue25

I don't see why not, they both fit into a guitar, they both work as pickups.

I'm not sure if you could do 1 active and 1 passive, but I do know it wouldn't matter the brand name.

Most seymour duncan's are passive, and I believe the only active pickups they made were Blackouts.

EMG is mainly active oriented, but they have some passive ones as well.

You really can't go wrong. The main thing to keep in mind with pickups is how clear they sound, amps bring distortion tbh.

  • Man, you suck for not augmenting the volume... and then putting a full-volume track at the end. At least the intro of this track was "just" a scream and not some no-warning "ear drum shattering" double-kick drums (...those came after).

    106dB closed headphones users beware!

  • thank you so much i knew i wanted the Blackouts :)

  • oh my god 7:10 scared the sh!t outta me. it was like twice as loud as normal video.

  • Oh wow, even through that little webcam mic you can still hear how the Blackouts dominate over the 81. Damnnn.

  • it s a vos or gloss r57 bb?

  • yea blackouts have more on the low end but they can't handle shit on the high end.

  • @rocafella142 lol thats true, and people think that the blackout has a better clean tone, the fact is, the 81 IMO is just shit, its to bassy and not clear, nor heavy compared to other setups, such as 85 in the bridge and 60 in the neck :D

  • 6:41 the air that i breathe by all that remains (: and i like the lead sounds on the blackouts a LOT more

  • thank you for helping me settle on the obvious choice for me, :D Blackouts

  • blackouts have more gain emg have more tone and clarity blackouts sounds like a bunch of distortion coming out of an amp thats it and the blackouts dont have the slightest bit of clean tone that the emgs put out especially the emg 60 and the emg81 is the best lead soloing active pickup made and its great for rhythm and riffs so my opion blackouts blow emgs are by far more suppiror cuz i have played both and the duncans dont match with guitars like emgs do they just dont sound good, by far emgs!!

  • Blackouts rock and blow those shitty EMG's out the water

  • i use blackouts in my KKV and was gonna try ether an EMG 81/85 set or a 81/60 set but from im hearing the blackouts output is much higher than EMG's so im gonna stick to what i know i like and get another blackout set for my MTM2. thanks for the vid man it helped allot. WhiteChapel FTW!

  • I am still torn between both AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • The EMGs sound way better here. The blackouts are fkn HARSH sounding, no clarity and too much upper mid.

  • i already knew that the emg's had crappy mids and all, but i didn't know the difference was this great. god damn, who in their right mind would buy 81's after hearing this?

  • i like the blackouts it has more of a full tone

  • I like the higher gain on the Blackouts, but the EMG are cleaner sounding. I play a lot of prog stuff, so the 81/60 works better for me. They're both awesome, though.

  • Awesome vid. I prefer the blackout tones.

  • emg are ruuuuullllleeeeeeee!!!

  • try out Ernie Ball super slinkies, they sound awesome :D

  • i want both.

blackouts have more tone but EMGs are more trashy sounding

  • blackouts just seem louder.

  • i have blackouts on my guitar and they are awesome .....

  • @TheKarlo93 fag

  • i dont have loose strings, i just recorded this with a crappy mic near to my guitar. :)

    i use dean markley blue steels (0.010 - 0.052)

  • @bombsquadrecords Maybe dunlop strings may be better

  • sounds like you got very loose strings. What gauge strings do you use?

  • omg the Seymour Duncans are so much more dynamic. I've just started now to pay attention to what kind of pickups I'd want...everyone would flood me with how sick EMGs are, I'm SO fucking happy I'm ging to rebel against EMGs and get some SD's now. Fucking stereotypical BULLSHIT. SD ftw!

  • EMGS all the way TBH

  • i like the emg 60 better then the neck pos black out but i like the brige blackout better then the 81

  • EMG +1

  • the blackout outs have more of a low end. but emg's have a mx of highs and lows

  • wtf im not saying that the emg's are better but you didnt give them a fair match the emg 60 is meant for rhythm and the 81 is meant for lead all im saying is that the 81 is not meant to have that rhythm chugging sound that the blackout has the 60 is sopoused to do that

  • Damn! Gonna get a les paul with Blackouts on the bridge and Invader SH-8 on the neck.

  • EMG'S for soloing and SEYMOUR DUNCAN for rythym

  • i thought the other way around.... funy how peoples opions differ.

  • I liked the blackouts a little better.

  • Cool Video Man, Was Just Wondering, Which Blackouts Do You Have? Are They The AHB1's or AHB2's?

  • ahb1's :)

  • best pickups in the world

  • well i know what I'm getting BLACKOUTS!

  • i got the blackouts EMTY xD

  • @H3lloSE

Hell yeah! The EMTY are my favorite Blackouts.

  • @darthinfurnus theyre amazing :) love em. Although I'm still unsure between the emgs and the sds xD

  • @guy2j aww whats wrong emg fan boy? did you spend hundreds of dollars putting these in all your guitars just to have them become obsolete

  • @guy2j oh and guess what Alexi made the switch over to blackouts! did that crush your heart?

  • @godlikecharacta .............. alexi went to them for a bit but.....he now has a sig EMG pick up set out i suggest you check your facts before you flame someone to look like a youtube bad ass :)

  • blackouts all the way!

  • SEYMOUR DUNCAN BLACK OUTS <3

  • well i got some emgs used for like 130 USD so im going to go with those.

85/60 combo, problably the best way to use EMGS. :)

  • im getting some blackouts...

  • if you use celestion V30 speakers, your heavy sound is very better!!

    sorry 4 my english! :)

  • its not heavier, but your sound gets a little bit tighter.

i was thinking about replacing my greenback speakers with a set of v30's but i just bought an MXR Kerry King 10 band EQUALIZER.

put that in the fx loop and i felt in love with the sound.

    soooo brutal!

it could be a little more tighter with v30's but i dont think it is worth it right now :)

  • I use both side by side. There isn't really THAT much of a difference.

  • @guitarfreak2105

You're still young. When your ears develop more, you'll agree the Blackouts are far better overall.

  • @darthinfurnus How do you know which one I think is better? I never said anything in the comment...? I said that I use them side by side, I have blackouts in 2 of my 3 guitars. And I said their isn't THAT much of a difference, which means, there are differences but not THAT many. I like the Blackouts better BTW, cleaner cleans, clearer highs yeah, but as far as tone and sound, almost the same. And don't think I am just some punk ass fake guitarist dude. I know my shit.

  • @darthinfurnus your hearing is 100% wen your young and when your older your hearing decreases....

  • duncans are the best!!!

  • i rest my case ;)

  • OK I'm having a hard time deciding! I want pickups that are heavy, but not heavy to the point with a huge over driven sound, the clarity of solo's is jank! With the more dominant mids, i think the blackouts have a smoother sound, but the emg's have a very high treble sound (i like that). But i think the smoothness and even clarity of Blackouts dominate the emg's. And, OMG! The ending scared me cause the audio of the video was quite so i turned it up loud, the. THIS WORLD END NOW! whitechapel!

  • dude the ending scared the crap out of me i figured it would kind of scare me but it scared me alot, and i knew it was comming

  • @321jacobandnick maybe u should try bare knuckle pickups...just putting it out there...

  • @321jacobandnick LOL I am having the same problem I wish the emg 81 and the sd blackout could have sex and make the absolute perfect pickup. (sighs) anyway THis is exile is BADASS and the lyrics at the end are THIS WORLD IS OURS just figured I would let you know have a good day!

  • the stuff you played during the "lead sound" section sounded like some atreyu would play

  • i really hate the 81 alot. I wasthinking of grabbing a 60 and using it as a lead with an 85 for rythm, or should i do it the other way around? Anyways i don't own the guitar yet. I was thinking of getting a jackson dkmg dinky and replacing (as stated above) the 81. Thoughts?

Also: Do u think it will be easy to sell the 81 after?

  • or just get blackouts :)

  • the baclouts don't have that smooth cleans that the 60's have tho =(

  • blackouts are smoother ;)

  • just get the blackouts!!!!! theyre cheaper and better!

  • i think a blackout bridge with a 60 neck would be my favorite combo

  • thnx for making the guitar so quite and the music at end loud

  • no problem at all

  • lol

  • One question.. Do you happen to have the EMG 85?

A lot of people have said that EMG 85 in bridge is as good and powerful as an Seymour duncan Blackout.

  • i heard that to, so i tried it but i did not like it. the best thing about emg's is a 81 in the bridge, especially for riffing. an emg 85 in the bridge position sound a little warmer but not as good as blackouts tough.

  • Could you make a video of it?

If you have the time of course...

  • i put emg 85's in the bridge position cos i hear dthey have a greater bass response so make s the tone more powerfull. plus i thought there is less bass tone at the bridge so use the pickup that makes the most of it and put the 81 in my zakk wylde set in the neck position cos there is more than enough low end in that area.

  • cool vid, found it useful. Im kinda unsure, the Seymours sound louder, brighter, much more open and less compressed. Might have to get a set to try in my ESP. Its a little closer at high gain, the EMG's seem to have a bit more bottom end but less clarity. . . . . . interesting.

  • SD Blackouts, no competition. Both on clean and with higher gain.
