Just go to the arts district/Park ave area and you will find a vibrant area. Most areas aren't bad in general this is the Rust Belt after all. The "South Wedge" is pretty good but needs a lot of work done to make it more walkable.
Their is a lot of room for improvement because this city was poorly administered and planned for a long time.
The "Rottenchester Disease" has held sway for too long. Everyone sloths around whining about how terrible it is and, surprise, things get pretty bad.

Rochester, NY = like any other city on the rust belt. It's like Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, etc ... It had a booming industry that has suffered after a decrease in demand. It was bad in the 90's but has gotten a lot better. There are bad areas but what city doesn't? We are making moves reconstructing downtown-- and we have consistently done better, on average, through this recession. If critics spent as much time volunteering as they did complaining, it would be even better.

If you own a boat, you have Irondiqoit bay and the lake. Finger Lakes aren't that far, and niether is Lake George. We have it pretty Good here,.

It's the same as any other city in the USA - there are slums, but there are really nice parts, too. RIT is not really near these areas, and while U of R is in the city, it is a much nicer area than what you are seeing here... typical college-town area similar to SU, or wherever. I was born in Rochester, but moved to Florida when I was 8, I guess I didn't live there long enough to realize what kind of a place it was, because all my memories of it are, well, fantastic! Haha (it's probably because I spent a lot of time with my grandmother in Pittsford, though)
The traffic videos were the best. Sure bigger cities like LA have worse traffic problems but 590 is choked with traffic in the morning and full of jobless losers even if you're trying to drive on it during the day.

I was born and raised in West Walworth and went to Penfield schools. As soon as I graduated I moved to Charlotte NC. Yes the economy is 100x better here in Charlotte, but I like Rochester for the small business and local food. You can't get that down here. Rochester honestly looks like it's stuck in the 1960's with it's ugly brown & tan buildings, and there's a ton of poverty! Then again there's also a ton of good stuff to check out everytime I come to Rochester. We're currently wrapping up production of our terrorist underground movie "Wasted Talent" in Rochester, just across the river from UR. We lived in Philly for awhile so the sketchy/poor black neighborhoods in South Roach dont bother us as much, but I will admit its pretty freakin bad.
Midtown was once great but like all cities, parts of downtown have slowly been abandoned for suburban development and popularity.
Yeah it ain't pretty but at least we pretend to have plans for that area.

Half the buildings are dilapidated, and most of the city is ruled by gangs, drugs, and guns. Not including the East Ends, where most of the people are snobby and rich. (Brighton, Pittsford, Penfield, etc). Though alot of people say it's too small for them, for me it's too big! Henriettta, my town, has a modern pop. of almost 50,000! I'm more of a 2,000-11,000 guy. I want out.

Good thing. Up there in the sadden poverty city of Rochester, NY. My best friend of the early 70s was beat to death 4 years ago & my B.F. of the latter part of the 70s overdosed a couple years ago. Sad thing to see that happen. It's ironic though because it was the 2 reasons I left. I thought if I didn't get out of the city, I'd end up dieing of one of those two things.

You know something ? My whole life, I thought I hated Rochester. But we are more of a culture city the Saracuse or Buffalo , Albany , or even Schenectity. Rochesters a great place. We have Chuck Man Jonie ( Feels so Good). We have the Lilac Festival, Park Eve Festival, Clothesline Festival. Fairport Canal Days. East End Fest. If you own a boat, you have Irondiqoit bay and the lake. Finger Lakes aren't that far, and niether is Lake George. We have it pretty Good here,.

It's the same as any other city in the USA - there are slums, but there are really nice parts, too. RIT is not really near these areas, and while U of R is in the city, it is a much nicer area than what you are seeing here... typical college-town area similar to SU, or wherever. This video is satire, it doesnt give anything like a complete picture, it isn't meant to.

I was born in Rochester, but moved to Florida when I was 8, I guess I didn't live there long enough to realize what kind of a place it was, because all my memories of it are, well, fantastic! Haha (it's probably because I spent a lot of time with my grandmother in Pittsford, though)

Rochester is one of those cities where the people in the wealthy areas have absolutely no clue what's going on in the hood, and vice versa. Very methodically segregated. I live here. It's a shit hole constantly going further downhill. The kids here are soooooo fucked. I feel bad for 'em.

I was born and raised in West Walworth and went to Penfield schools. As soon as I graduated I moved to Charlotte NC. Yes the economy is 100x better here in Charlotte, but I like Rochester for the small business and local food. You can't get that down here. Rochester is bad, but in comparison to a lot of other cities in the U.S.A. We have nothing to complain about...Good video though, very well done. The contrast from then and now is astonishing. one word...KODAK

There are crackheads and gang members everywhere, and when school lets out the buses are a nightmare. The youth have little respect for their elders and there are homeless begging all over the place.

Rochester honestly looks like it's stuck in the 1960's with it's ugly brown & tan buildings, and there's a ton of poverty! Then again there's also a ton of good stuff to check out everytime I come to Rochester. We're currently wrapping up production of our terrorist underground movie "Wasted Talent" in Rochester, just across the river from UR. We lived in Philly for awhile so the sketchy/poor black neighborhoods in South Roach dont bother us as much, but I will admit its pretty freakin bad.

Midtown was once great but like all cities, parts of downtown have slowly been abandoned for suburban development and popularity.
Yeah it ain't pretty but at least we pretend to have plans for that area.
