These graphics still look great today. These graphics would have been good on xbox/ps2, and they were on dreamcast, in 1999. Just spectacular. The greatest proportional leap in graphics as compared to the norm of the day in gameplay ever
@JTNugget Um watch the history of dreamcast, Sega decided to become a software developer instead of a hardware developer. They make new games for all systems and still sell classics on XBL, PSN & WVC so they're pretty much alive, not dead.

@TyFly312 don't listen to that guy, of course the dreamcast's limits were pushed by SC1, to have such a game that still holds up today almost more than 13 years is a great accomplishment for the tech back then. I'm sure games like Virtua Fighter 4, Virtua Striker 3, Out Run 2 or even Panzer Dragoon Orta would've been done for Dreamcast. And probably with a better texture quality than the games we know now.

not the PS2's fault I think. Just the game developers fault. I mean, look at games like Shadow of The Colossus or FF12. but I do agree with you, there are way too many games with worse graphics than this on the PS2...
@Ladomendigo you should see it in less blurry quality! I started to play the series with SC2 for Gamecube, mainly because it had Link as a guest fighter. Then I went on school holiday at a hotel in the alps and they had SC1 as an arcade cabinet in the cellar. Spent like 40€ on it.
@KingLofiOne Then, a year later I bought a Dreamcast and SC1 used and was amazed to fight that the graphics on DC were much better than I remembered them. This was because the arcade version was running on an engine carried over from SAoul Blade, which was up to about top-notch PS1 graphics.
Soul Edge - Soul Calibur II = back to back classics!!!! / Soul Calibur III - now = Trully great fighting games only steps away from being masterpieces. The series has never really lost its quality cause its only gotten better in terms of gameplay and presentation with every game. Its just the appeal of it has died a lil(which happens with every EPIC series). Same thing happened to MGS(which is still popular and WELL respected but not of the same fame as it was in 2001 with MGS2)
@SageofSorrow also with the GoW series(i got burnt out on that series after GoW:Chains of Olympus). It may seem crazy but its possible to become "accustomed to greatness" and i think thats what happened to the SC series. I do hope they continue to make the games :-D
I just bought a DC from Goodwill with 2 controllers (red and blue) and the cables in pristine shape for $14.99. I already had a DC, which is unarguably the best system ever, and decided "why not own two?"
@writeronfire Except for alpha 3, dreamcast games are dull and blurry. PS2 would murderize dreamcast in any lifetime because any game that can be made on dc, can be made on ps2, not vice versa, due to disk space. Dreamcast is like a n64 with cd.
@writeronfire Of course I own one of dem ting. The hardware's appearance is ok, but the games are crap. Sonic has this runt talking in it, causing the game to feel as if it's something for a 6yr old, not to mention it's dull, dark graphics. There are no hardcore, intense shooters for the system.

I bet you could find some pretty shitty looking games for the Dreamcast also. Graphics weren't the problem with the Dreamcast, the problem was that the Dreamcast only had like 4-5 great exclusives. Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, and Jet Set Radio.
@razorslice17 I'm sure you could find some but they generally looked good right after the console came out because it was easy to program for. The ps2, not so easy to program for. That's why so many of the games looked shitty, but near after it was out for a few years there were some decent looking games. There was an ok amount of DC exclusives when it was in production still, but once sega dropped it a lot of them went multipalt (IE Res. evil code veronica)
@razorslice17 That' not true the dreamcast had tons of great exclusives. But most of them went under the radar and didn't meet commercial success because of them only being on one platform. Sure you've got Sonic adventure 1 and 2, Shenmue 1, and 2, Skies of Arcadia Jet grind radio and soul Calibur. But you've also got games like EGG Toy Commander Typing of the Dead. Grandia2 Evolution 1, and 2 Tech Romancer(My favorite fighting game) and a whole slue of underrated and unappreciated games.

The good thing about this game is it was easy to pick up and play, I think alot of people got the wrong impression that it lacked depth. No. Beginners could beat intermediate players by button mashing, but button mashing will not get you far against expert players. Once you achieved that level of skill then you see how it is deep. As opposed to virtua fighter which is not really accessable to beginners at all.
I just bought a used copy of SC from Amazon. When I play it on my DC, it makes a constant squeaking noise during battles. It sounds like it's trying to persistently load something. I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem. This is a great game, and I remember not having this problem with a DC I had back in 2000. I think it might be the used game I have, because other discs are fine on my newer DC.
@tonyvilaysack88 Yes It should be the game disc try cleaning it and if not try buying another one or just download the iso and burn it into a disc then you can play it on your dreamcast with no problem. I don't have a dreamcast but I did emulate this game on my computer and it seemed to run well, and it made no noise, then I bought this game on the xbox live marketplace and play it on my xbox and it makes no noise, its the disc not the game.

@tovhumanoid Here if you want a working ISO go to this video on youtube Soul Calibur De Dreamcast corriendo al 100% en PC! "Parte 1" and click on the second link in the description and download the emulator with the game, then when its finished just go to the soul calibur folder and burn the iso file onto a disc with nero or alcohol 120 there are tutorials on youtube on how to burn iso files onto a disc, then you can play on your dreamcast, its that easy. Let me know if you need any help
@tovhumanoid or if you have an xbox 360 and don't mind that all the unlockables are unlocked from the start and that there is no intro and no mission mode, you can buy it on xbox live, its still a good buy and a good game, they excluded mission and opening because they had to keep a file size limit so they removed that to keep the file size down, but its still the same game. Thats how I play it and I get satisfied with the xbox 360 version of the game.
Was soul calibur 2 for dreamcast? I used to have it for PS2 and the PS2 broke and I bought a dreamcast, I don't care if I get the first one, but I'll be better off with the second one if it was available for the dreamcast. I can't wait until my dreamcast arrives!
what an amazing game! the best fighter franchise. used to play all the soul caliburs with some mates for hours. good times, good times. (although a little dissapointed with soul calibur 4, wasnt much in that game)
@writeronfire Nice comment. Aside from superficiality (graphics and audio), the actual quality of games have not advanced since dreamcast/ps2/xbox days.
@writeronfire It really hasn't. But you have to remember that LoZ: OoT, MGS, and Soul Calibur (among others) were the exceptional games. In actuality, I think there are more quality games coming out nowadays, but also more terrible/mediocre games.
I disagree with the idea about more quality games today, especially when you compare what we got from the mid-90s up until the early 2000s. Back then virtually every genre and platform was well-represented and game developers were less "politically correct".
Such a wonderful sequel to Soul Blade. I like 5 but it seem like it's missing something..

@razorslice17 I'm sure you could find some but they generally looked good right after the console came out because it was easy to program for. The ps2, not so easy to program for. That's why so many of the games looked shitty, but near after it was out for a few years there were some decent looking games. There was an ok amount of DC exclusives when it was in production still, but once sega dropped it a lot of them went multipalt (IE Res. evil code veronica)

@razorslice17 That' not true the dreamcast had tons of great exclusives. But most of them went under the radar and didn't meet commercial success because of them only being on one platform. Sure you've got Sonic adventure 1 and 2, Shenmue 1, and 2, Skies of Arcadia Jet grind radio and soul Calibur. But you've also got games like EGG Toy Commander Typing of the Dead. Grandia2 Evolution 1, and 2 Tech Romancer(My favorite fighting game) and a whole slue of underrated and unappreciated games.

The good thing about this game is it was easy to pick up and play, I think alot of people got the wrong impression that it lacked depth. No. Beginners could beat intermediate players by button mashing, but button mashing will not get you far against expert players. Once you achieved that level of skill then you see how it is deep. As opposed to virtua fighter which is not really accessable to beginners at all.

I just bought a used copy of SC from Amazon. When I play it on my DC, it makes a constant squeaking noise during battles. It sounds like it's trying to persistently load something. I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem. This is a great game, and I remember not having this problem with a DC I had back in 2000. I think it might be the used game I have, because other discs are fine on my newer DC.

@tonyvilaysack88 Yes It should be the game disc try cleaning it and if not try buying another one or just download the iso and burn it into a disc then you can play it on your dreamcast with no problem. I don't have a dreamcast but I did emulate this game on my computer and it seemed to run well, and it made no noise, then I bought this game on the xbox live marketplace and play it on my xbox and it makes no noise, its the disc not the game.

@tovhumanoid Here if you want a working ISO go to this video on youtube Soul Calibur De Dreamcast corriendo al 100% en PC! "Parte 1" and click on the second link in the description and download the emulator with the game, then when its finished just go to the soul calibur folder and burn the iso file onto a disc with nero or alcohol 120 there are tutorials on youtube on how to burn iso files onto a disc, then you can play on your dreamcast, its that easy. Let me know if you need any help

@tovhumanoid or if you have an xbox 360 and don't mind that all the unlockables are unlocked from the start and that there is no intro and no mission mode, you can buy it on xbox live, its still a good buy and a good game, they excluded mission and opening because they had to keep a file size limit so they removed that to keep the file size down, but its still the same game. Thats how I play it and I get satisfied with the xbox 360 version of the game.

@writeronfire It really hasn't. But you have to remember that LoZ: OoT, MGS, and Soul Calibur (among others) were the exceptional games. In actuality, I think there are more quality games coming out nowadays, but also more terrible/mediocre games.

I disagree with the idea about more quality games today, especially when you compare what we got from the mid-90s up until the early 2000s. Back then virtually every genre and platform was well-represented and game developers were less "politically correct".
