  • The Cure!!! Now I love you more!

  • I made this yesterday and it was so delicious! I didn't have the hot pepper paste (I'm buying it this thursday for my ddukbokki and kimchi), so I used srirachi instead to spice it up. It was awesome, I plan to make it many times in the future, as well as many of your other dishes. You really inspire me, Maangchi! :-) I'm not Korean, but my parents tell me I have the heart of a korean woman! ;-)

  • @delightracardeanne yay! Congratulations!

  • I love how you enjoy your own cooking so much!!! Everything look so delicious!

  • :3 I remember my mom and grandma used to make this a lot back home.

Your channel is like going back to my moms house xD lots of memories.

  • I noticed how long you cook the soybean sprouts. Doesn't it get all mushy and breaks apart when you cook it for too long? Mung bean sprouts fall apart if they're cooked too long.

  • I am about to make the soup for the family. Boy, am I glad to find the video showing how to make it. Thanks! I found out that using sissors to be real handy removing the end part, and listening to classical music lessen the frustration while I remove all the tail part cut off.

  • I love her little smile @4:07 Lmao

  • can i use green brean sprout instead?

  • @CloverLemon from what i know about soybean sprouts, it's yellow 'cause it gets no sun

and it would be green 'cause it starts to produce chlorophyll once it contacts with sun..

or that's the assumption I made when my dad brought a in-home soybean sprout-grower-thingy, he always covered the top, but the ones that got a bit of sun turned green.

  • pardon for my ignorance, but garlic gives what taste? can't i omit it? as well as onion and green onion? what taste/flavor would it gives?

  • @iynn512 Korean food consists of garlic, onion, and green onions - either one, a combination of two or just all three.

it definitely gives it flavor (: you probably won't realize it 'til you cook one with and one without it.

I mean, unless it's absolutely disgusting to you or you're allergic, then definitely - omit! but if you aren't and you take those ingredients out - you're left with soybean sprout broth and salt

  • I got my son (the college boy) making the spicy one right now. A nice simple dish for him to get used to cooking.

  • @mlauntube awesome! Happy cooking!

  • spicy one looks more delicious!!! thanks.. wanna try it ^^

  • Gotta try cooking it. ;D

  • you don't need to wash the dashima before cooking, there may be white powdery stuff on it but it is not dirt, it is actually natural glutamate (like MSG but not as unhealthy!) (:

  • I am looking forward to making this!!! It looks absolutely amazing!

  • The Cure soundtrack is simple awesome!!!!

  • ㅎㅎㅎㅎ 멋져요!!!

  • Omg looks so delicious...

I like the soup. that's my favorite soup. >,< I want it now!!!!

  • What is the kind of rice that you are eating in this video?

  • Hi, it's really a good n simple way to prepare morning soup for my family.

  • You make it all look so simple! Thank you

  • You are ao awesome! OMG-please keep posting!!!

  • Must i use kelp? Is there a substitute because i don't think i can find it where i live?

  • @rainieyangrocks skip it then. It will still be delicious.

  • @Maangchi Thank you !! I love watching your videos <3 I am going to make it for my mom ^^ I love watching korean dramas and listening to the boy and girl groups.. and in the dramas they show food that looks really good and i have always wanted to try korean food. I really want to eat jja jang myun noodles but i dont think i can find all the ingredients here but i will try ^_^ I already made kimchi it was delicious and my chinese friends loved it kekeke

  • @rainieyangrocks Use Kombu. The japanese version called Kombu is the same thing. You can buy it at asianfoodgrocer :) just search Kombu, the 4oz bag for 3 dollars and change is the best bargain :).

  • 안녕하세요~! I just made 콩나물국! 진짜 맛있어요~! 감사합니다~! I did not have the Red Pepper flakes, so I chopped up some Jalapenos and it was just as delicious. Thank you again, Maangchi~! <3

  • @ForeverSweetx3 jalapenos sound great!

  • Thank You Maangchi!

We lived in Asia where most of the Korean stores do not carry it and only small local sprouts in the market. I will definately try it when I find the Korean sprouts.. And I have tried many other recipe for Soodubu and yours was the best! It's really tasty unlike others quite bland.

Thanks again for your recipe and hard work! Have a good day! Cheers!

  • Thank You, Maangchi!

We live in Asia where most of the Korean stores do not carry it.. Anyway, I will make it if I can find it by chance.

Thank You again for your recipe.

PS: I tried many soodubu recipe and yours is the best!!

  • My husband (Korean) is having cold and he wanted to have this soup this morning but I (non Korean) can't find Korean soybean sprouts easily around my area..I will definately try it if I can find the big sprouts. Or can subsitute it with smaller sprouts?

I made so many dishes from you! My husband love it!

  • @catherine1707 Your Korean husband probably wants this soup made with the soybean sprouts in the video. It's sold at a Korean grocery store and Chinese store. Check out China town or Korean grocery store. Don't forget to see more detailed info about this soup, tips, and photos on the recipe on my website. Good luck with finding the soybean sprouts (called kongnamul in Korean). Check out the ingredient section on my website if you want to see what it looks like, too.

  • um, hi. i was wondering can you just use normal bean sprouts?

thanks and keep up the good work :]

  • @Maangchi - is it the same soy bean paste used here the one you used in "LA galbi" as condiment?

  • @wealtz yes, it is.

  • Now, I can cook korean foods for my family as easy as possible. Thank you so much.. 0--0

  • thank u for the recipe...i made the spicy version and it tasted awesome! :)

  • @maegha awesome news!

  • I just made this! It's so easy and yummy, thank u for the recipe.

  • nuna, love your videos! where do i order that knife that can crush the garlic?

  • Spicy is so better. I got surgery not too long ago and the vegetarian soup was a comfort to make and eat. Thank you for this recipe!

  • you're always talking about hangovers haha!!! you are so funny!!

  • Girlfriend, you've changed your hair style!

  • Hi! Maangchi

I love spicy food and so much!!!! I enjoy the spiciness and pungence of food so much!!!!!!That's part of the reason why I love Korean food and cuisine so much. To me, of course, the spicy one is always the better one.

  • One of my favorite food and music!

  • Can you make the spicy version without the anchovies?

  • i like beef in my bean sprout soup

  • If spicy compliments the dish, I want spicy.

Yes, it does relieve cold symptoms. Anything from a spicy soup to snacking on jalapeno slices will help you breathe a lot better and much faster than any medicine I have used.

  • I only watched the first 30 or something seconds so far but, when I heard her start saying hang over I started laughing! It's a good thing, nothing bad though! Lol, less than a minute into a video about cooking and ...Ahhh! Ahaha, thanks for the tip! ; ) Yeah, soup helps with that stuff. Thanks for this recipe, I've been looking for it all over!!

  • Funny, but true.

Spicy foods not only trigger a sensation to heighten awareness, but also will trigger the release of endorphines which is the world's most perfect pain reliever and pleasure enhancer.

Despite what many people seem to believe, spicy food can also help relieve certain types of stomach discomfort including nausea which coffee may irritate.

Diarrhea - Coffee causes it more than spicy foods.

After a hard night of drinking, I'll take a chili over Starbucks and Pepto any day.

  • I drank the Soybean sprout soup from a Korean restaurant and it did add some miso in it...

  • cutest cook ever!

  • oh my goddd!

    she is so cutee

  • Do you have a recipe for the red rice you use in this video. I was looking on your website as well and I couldn't find it! By the way, I just LOVE your videos! Makes me hungry!!

  • How to make rice using a pot:

    1. Combine 1 cup of short grain rice, 1/2 cup of sweet brown rice, 1/2 cup of barley rice, and 2 tbs of black sweet rice

    2. Wash and drain a couple of times and put it in a pot with a thick bottom

    3. Pour 3 cups of water into the pot and soak it for a few hours and close the lid.

    4. Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat for 10 minutes.

    5. Open the lid and turn the rice over with a rice scoop or spoon.

    6. Simmer it over low heat for another 10 minutes!

  • Thank you so much for the recipe! Again, love your channel!!

  • Looks so tasty AND healthy :D

  • yes, I wish you good luck!

  • It was a success! some people thought it was to hot...and some went up for extras XD Thank You so Much Maangchi!

I tired it myself and I really liked it...oh and my teacher loved it.

  • hi maangchi! did you cook your rice with red beans? or something else? THANKS :)

  • oh, the rice in this video was made with plain short grain rice , brown sweet rice (hyeonmi chapssal: 현미찹쌀) , and a little bit of purple sweet rice.

  • Thanks! Wow!

But I don't think I can find purple sweet rice here in the Philippines :(

and btw, I love your videos! :)

  • can you put sliced beef in the soup when your making the broth?

  • Of course, you can!

If you use beef, just skip dried anchovies.

  • it is so cute that your recipe is playing to robert smith

  • heyyyyy i like your hair

  • ty ty!

  • Comment removed

  • that looks sooo good..

i'm quite hesitant to eat spicy foods though but boy would i like to try your recipes.

    love your show Ms. Maangchi.

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE your hair! its sooo cute on you!

and as always i love watching your cooking show!

  • I would have the non-spicy version every few days at the Korean worker's cafeteria on Osan Air Base. I would eat there almost every day to get away from the American processed food they served in the military "chow halls". Korean food is always fresh and good for you.

  • Osan Air Base! : )

  • i love your shows!are you from south korea or north korea? just wondering

    kamsamedae!^.^

  • My mother is Korean and I think it's SO FUNNY when people ask me if she's from North or South Korea. Seriously, do you know ANYONE from North Korea? No? Probably because North Korea is a communist country, and you can't leave unless your a refugee or defect. Just an FYI.

  • if you dont have the dried fish could you use Dashi , as its made out of fish as well ?

  • yes, you could use it, but don't forget dashi powder contains MSG.

  • short hair makes u look so much younger.. cute ! :)

  • Hmm... the spicy version looks better but i would remove that Red Hot pepper so it's not Spicy anymore :)

As you see, I don't like spicy stuff.

  • this soup is really refreshing especially when it's steaming hot! I think it's because of the really light/watery liquid texture. I definitely prefer mine spicy =]

great videos! I enjoy watching all of them very much

  • Hey Maangchi! :) I have all the ingredients except for the anchovies and I was wondering if I could substitute the anchovies for fish sauce for the broth?

  • no, fish sauce is very salty and it doesn't go with this soup. : )

  • would you know what I could substitute the anchovy with? or could I just go without it?

  • what about using dried kelp? Or skip it then.

  • ok :) it's funny I watched this video and saw the kelp and I totally forgot I had some buried in the back of the cupboard. lol hehe I am off to make some soup for breakfast now! ;)

  • hoho, good luck with your kongnamulguk making! yeah, perfect choice for breakfast soup.

  • thax a lot~~ great job:)

  • I can't believe how flavourful this soup is. It's so simple, and I thought it would have a much plainer flavour. The spicy version is great without the fish, and I recommend that to other vegetarians.

    Thanks for the recipe!

  • yet again another yummy recipe I will try, spicy for the adults and non-spicy for the kids....Thanks

  • love it

  • That's awesome you provide two versions of it. So that when I buy one bag of sprouts I can make two soups. :)

    Thank you!

  • I want some spicy right now! My step grandmother was Korean...I miss her cooking.

  • one question what do ou do to the kelp that you took out do you throw it out or is it still good to use for other soups?

  • no, after boiling it, the kelp will taste bland. It's edible though. I usually throw it out.

  • o ok thanks again maangchi your videos are always fun to watch ^^

  • 잘봤습니다!

    아~ 맜있겠다 :)

  • i am sure if you are a vegetarian, you can still eat the spicy soup...

just dont put the anchovy in it...and use kelp with hot pepper flakes

  • Comment removed

  • i love this soup! i swear by it when i have hangovers... thank you so much for posting the recipe!

  • Loves it!

  • i like nonspicy!~ i always have nonspicy

  • this is so different from the one my mom makes!

she just boils the kongnamul and adds salt and dashida (i think that's like powdered beef stock...or at least that's what the korean package claims) and some pepper flakes. tastes good, but i want to try this version!

  • Hi, everybody, I'm copying and pasting my comment here again which was made yesterday to put it on the front page.

Thank you for all your nice comments!

I notice some are interested in the rice. haha!

Please concentrate on today's recipe rather than the rice! Anyway, the multi-grain rice is made with short grain rice, black rice, barley, and brown rice.

Vote which version you prefer: spicy or non spicy kongnamulguk? To vote, go to my website and click your choice! : )

  • hey, what kind of rice is that ? looks like red bean rice , right ?

  • Oh that looked so good, especially since I am sick right now. I love sprouts too. ^_^

  • I like your videos Maangchi :-) I'm going to ask my Chinese grandmother to make an exception and hope she will make Korean food hihi

  • aigo! thank you very much! : )

  • that looks so delicious!

  • Great Work!

Sesame oil seems really essential in your recipe, and I found it is quite expensive in my local Korean store. Can I substitute with other Sesame oil, like Chinese ones?

  • of course you can use it

  • Soybean sprouts are ten times better for you than actual soy beans

  • I love you....I mean I love your cooking. :)

  • Very Good Recipe ! I love Fresh Bean Sprouts) ! I only buy Fresh Bean Sprouts at an Asian store and NEVER at the grocery store. I will try the Hot and Spicy Version First !! He He

  • yes, I do! Thank you!

  • What a simple recipe!

Is there a special name for the nonspicy version?

Also, do you think you could make 유부초밥 some time? Yummy!

I always love your music choices. :o)

    Thanks!

  • non spicy version of kongnamulguk is also called just kongnamulguk. Yubu chobap (유부초밥) recipe will be posted later, thank you!

  • I am sorry. Like your videos al ot--food seems great always. Today NO.

  • hello :D this looks amazing!

i was wondering....what is that rice? ive had it at my favourite korean restaurant and i dont know why its...purple!?

  • Hi...Maangchi Thank you for your lovely recipe.I have a question. I don't have Dry anchovy can I use the one likepowder they said have dry anchovy and muchroom call anchovy dashida. With one is more tasty. I will go buy some real dry anchovy. Thank you sooooooo much. Love korean food

  • What kind of rice did eat?

  • spicy ftw!

  • that rice looked good ,what kind of rice was it?

  • The purple color is a telltale sign that she mixed wild sweet black rice 훅미잡쌀 with regular rice... you can also mix beans into it... look up a recipe for jab gok bab 잡곡밥. Remember that a little of the wild rice goes a long way.

  • ur hair look so retro, i prefer spicy soup

  • great job this looks great keep up the good work!
