I haven't seen the movie, but I read Tim Powers "On Stranger Tides" and from seeing the trailer, not sure I want to see the movie now. First there's not a mention of mermaids in the book. There's no one like Angelica's character. In fact the two female characters are Beth Hurwood and Anne Bonny.
