  • This interval of ITV Schools that the listings had the David Snell music being used in autumn terms between 1977 and 1978 but different music listed for spring term 1978,the interval music is "Passing Time" followed by "Handelian Harp", both by David Snell.(These tracks were also used in Summer 1980,interval music is "Stepping Stone" "Morning Cloud" "Passing Time" followed by "Handelian Harp but the clock had changed by then).

  • Indeed. I'd come back here to say what SiCo just said - that the listings had the David Snell music being used in spring 1977, but different music listed for spring 1978. So it seems as though this is just about 35 years old.

  • If the sleeve notes on Watch With Teacher are accurate, it's from summer 1977 - the interval music is "Passing Time" followed by "Handelian Harp", both by David Snell

  • @soulAdequate There are known errors in the Watch with Teacher information, and this appears to be one of them. Neither It's Life nor It's More Life were shown in the summer of 77, nor 78 - so I think Robin is right. Spring 1978 or, at a push, Spring 1977, and the junction is a Thursday at 11.20-11.22.

  • @soulAdequate Actually, I've checked the WWT listings, which actually list those two tracks as Spring 1977. And most of their listings seem to correspond well to footage I've seen - so I now believe this is Spring 1977.

  • I get the feeling that the programme ending at the start of the clip may have been a Thames local programme, due to what appears to be a 'sync-jump' (often seen when rejoining network) at the start of the junction at 00:09.

  • The Clock and Seeing and Doing titles I can just remember was 6 years but can just recall that, they changed the clock in January 1979

  • The best piece of schools continuity on Youtube............... Well done!

  • This is slightly earlier than claimed. I think the programme ending at the start here is 'It's More Life', which was produced in late 1976 for first tx in early 77 - the predecessor series 'It's Life' went out in early 76, but the edition I have has a 1975 copyright date. 'It's More Life' preceded 'Seeing and Doing' on Thursdays in spring 77 & 78, and I suspect this is the latter term - assuming the tape ran out before any sign of the S&D episode title, do you know which edition of IML this was?

  • Nice - rare to see ITV stuff of this vintage

  • Fantastic recovery - I haven't felt a rush of nostalgia like this in ages.

I think I read somewhere this theme was done by Charlie Dore, Julian Littman and Karl Johnson - who came between TellTale and Rod, Jane & Matthew on Rainbow.

  • @stupidrubbish I thought exactly the same thing about the Seeing and Doing theme.

  • @RAX118G They certainly wrote "You and Me" theme so it seems pretty likely.

  • This is fantastic! A new piece of archive schools continuity - I'm guessing from the music used this may have been Summer 1978 (These tracks were also used in Summer 1980, but the clock had changed by then).

Great to see those rare Seeing and Doing titles - what a shame the tape cuts out before they finish! I remember episodes with these titles were still being repeated in 1985!

Do you have any more footage from that tape?

  • @CaptainSiCo There were several David Bellamy schools programmes but because the tape was so difficult I couldn't transfer them. This is the only significant piece of presentation that was on it.

  • @CaptainSiCo I had no idea that Seeing and Doing epiodes with these titles were being shown as late as 1985. The titles I remember are the classic "wooden block" titles with the "Tom He Was A Piper's Son" theme and I also vaguely remember later titles with a rather bland-sounding theme.
